Keyboard for Android and connection methods. Turning a tablet into a full-fledged workplace

The segment of mobile gadgets is developing at a rapid pace due to its growing popularity. Modern tablets functionality practically and PC. And the relative inconvenience of touch control and entering information through virtual keyboard can be solved by communicating the tablet with the periphery. The question of whether it is possible to connect a keyboard to a tablet, and what steps need to be taken to do this, will be discussed below.

Manufacturers produce several types of peripheral input and control devices, with the help of which tablet users can mitigate some of the inconveniences of working with the device. This:

  • USB keyboard;
  • combined keyboard (USB/Bluetooth, keypad built into the case).

Modern models of mobile gadgets are equipped with a certain set of communication modules and connectors with support from operating software. The functionality of the device laid down by the manufacturer can be expanded if you use an external keyboard connected via a cable via USB/Micro USB port or via bluetooth connection. How easy or difficult it is to implement each of the methods of connecting a keyboard to a tablet, we will consider the positive and negative nuances of the solutions below.

USB cable connection

In the office or at home, for the convenience of printing large texts, you can use USB peripherals. Let's give step by step instructions How to connect a keyboard to a tablet.

Let's consider a solution to the problem with the absence the required driver using the example of connecting an external cyberboard to an Android tablet. The sequence of actions is as follows.

  1. IN Google Play Find and install in the market application "ruKeyboard".
  2. In the “settings” mode on the tablet, in the “Language and Settings” tab, check the box installed program"ruKeyboard".
  3. In the program itself, you need to select the “Hardware keyboard” item. Here, in the “Switching layout” item, the key combination familiar to the user is configured, if it differs from the default one.
  4. In the “Select layout” settings tab, check the “External keyboard” item.
  5. Reboot the tablet.

Important! When mobility is limited, the method of physically connecting devices is reliable and stable, as well as lower power consumption. With this connection, the tablet battery discharges much more slowly than with the wireless method.

Connecting an external keyboard via Bluetooth

From the point of view of greater mobility due to the absence of unnecessary wires, as well as ease of communication, you can connect a Bluetooth keyboard to the tablet. In addition to the usual keys, this peripheral device is equipped built-in Bluetooth module , which is activated by a special button.

The design and location of the button may vary for different models. To use a Bluetooth keyboard on a tablet, you need to be able to turn it on. The procedure for synchronizing devices is as follows:

  • enable the keyboard and Bluetooth function on the tablet;
  • In the tablet settings in the Android Bluetooth section you need to find the connected peripherals.

Still on sale Cyboards with radio interface. A USB receiver is included with this device. This element is connected to the tablet via an OTG adapter. Further actions involve searching for and synchronizing with the connected keyboard through the “Wireless Connections” section in the tablet settings.

Communication of the tablet with other types of keyboards

Bluetooth/USB input device, as the name suggests, can work with the tablet as a Bluetooth keyboard or as a regular USB keyboard. Both connection options are described above.

Keyboard Caseis a case with a built-in keypad. The accessory primarily serves the function of protecting the mobile gadget from dust and mechanical damage during transportation. Different materials are used to make cases: silicone or durable plastic, thick fabric, artificial leather or moisture-impregnated leather. The accessory is also equipped interface with Micro USB to connect to tablet computer. So the algorithm for pairing such convenient peripherals with the device is similar to the above cable connection procedure.

Implementation of simultaneous connection of keyboard and mouse

You can connect a keyboard and a mouse to your tablet at the same time. There are two options for implementing communication.

  1. Connecting wired peripheral devices via USB/Micro USB port of a mobile gadget.
  2. Synchronize the tablet with a wireless mouse and keyboard via Bluetooth.

In the first case it may would needUSB hub, if the device is equipped with one corresponding connector.

Otherwise, the connection and configuration procedure does not differ from that described above.

Few users Android gadgets realize that you can connect a keyboard or mouse to their devices, just like to a regular computer. Connecting these peripherals allows you to turn your smartphone or tablet into a real workstation. A keyboard will significantly increase comfort while typing, and a mouse can greatly simplify browsing.

Now you will learn how to connect a keyboard to your tablet. There are two ways to connect a keyboard to an Android tablet: with via USB OTG cable, which we have already discussed in the article about, and also using wireless interface Bluetooth.

How to connect a keyboard to an Android tablet using a USB OTG cable

The first method is to use a USB OTG cable. This is an addition to the USB 2.0 standard. This add-on allows you to connect various USB devices to each other without using a computer. For this connection, a small adapter cable is used.

USB OTG cable can be used by most different ways. For example, you can use it to connect a digital camera to a printer and print the pictures taken, or connect a flash drive to a mobile device.

In our case, we will connect the keyboard to an Android tablet. It's very easy to do. First, you need the USB OTG cable itself. This cable can be purchased at any store with mobile phones. When purchasing, pay attention to the cable. On one side of such a cable there should be regular USB connector, and on the other Micro USB. If the cable looks different, it will not suit you.

After you get it required adapter, just insert its Micro USB connector into your tablet (or smartphone, if you are connecting the keyboard to a smartphone) and then plug the USB cable from the keyboard into another connector of the adapter. As a result, the tablet should detect the keyboard, and it should work. You don’t need to take any further actions, this should be enough to connect the keyboard to your Android tablet. Naturally, in order for everything to work out for you, the keyboard must have a USB cable. Keyboards with a PS/2 connector will not work.

By the way, there are special cases for tablets that are equipped with a built-in keyboard (see screenshot above). When using such a case, your tablet not only connects to the keyboard, it turns into a small laptop. After all, the keyboard and tablet are rigidly connected by a case, and using them in this format is much more convenient.

Connecting a keyboard to an Android tablet via Bluetooth

The second option for connecting a keyboard to an Android tablet is to use the Bluetooth wireless interface. Everyone knows that using Bluetooth you can transfer files and connect a headset, but not everyone knows that Bluetooth keyboards also connect perfectly to tablets and smartphones. At the same time, connecting a keyboard using Bluetooth is much easier than using a USB OTG cable.

In order to connect the keyboard, simply turn it on and then go to Android settings on your tablet. Here you need to find the Bluetooth section and enable the Bluetooth module. Your tablet should then find the Bluetooth keyboard and show it in the Bluetooth settings. Then you just need to select your keyboard in the tablet settings and it will automatically connect to it.

It should be noted that there are wireless keyboards with a Bluetooth interface and a radio interface. These are completely two different interfaces. Therefore, if you have a keyboard with a radio interface, you will not be able to connect it using Bluetooth. In this case, you need to connect the USB receiver from the keyboard to the tablet using a USB OTG cable.

Hello.

I think no one will deny that the popularity of tablets has grown greatly recently and many users cannot imagine their work without this gadget :).

But tablets (in my opinion) have a significant drawback: if you need to write something longer than 2-3 sentences, then it becomes a real nightmare. To correct this, there are small wireless keyboards on sale that connect via Bluetooth and allow you to close this drawback (and they often even come with a case).

In this article, I wanted to look step by step at how to set up connecting such a keyboard to a tablet. There is nothing complicated in this issue, but as with everything, there are some nuances...

Connecting a keyboard to a tablet (Android)

1) Turn on the keyboard

The wireless keyboard has dedicated buttons for turning on and setting up the connection. They are located either slightly above the keys, or on the side wall of the keyboard (see Fig. 1). The first thing you need to do is turn it on, as a rule, the LEDs should start flashing (or lit).

Rice. 1. Turn on the keyboard (note that the LEDs are lit, i.e. the device is turned on).

2) Setting up Bluetooth on the tablet

In the settings you need to open the section " Wireless network "and turn on the Bluetooth connection (blue switch in Fig. 2). Then go to bluetooth settings.

Rice. 2. Setting up Bluetooth on the tablet.

3) Select a device from the available ones...

If your keyboard is turned on (the LEDs on it should be blinking) and the tablet starts looking for devices available for connection, you should see your keyboard in the list (as in Fig. 3). You need to select it and connect.

Rice. 3. Connecting a keyboard.

4) Pairing

The pairing process is the process of establishing a connection between your keyboard and your tablet. As a rule, it takes 10-15 seconds.

Rice. 4. Pairing process.

5) Password for confirmation

The final touch is that you need to enter a password on the keyboard to access the tablet, which you will see on its screen. Please note that after entering these numbers on the keyboard, you need to press Enter.

Rice. 5. Entering the password on the keyboard.

6) Completing the connection

If everything was done correctly and there were no errors, then you will see a message that the bluetooth keyboard is connected (this is a wireless keyboard). Now you can open Notepad and type to your heart's content.

Rice. 6. Keyboard connected!

What to do if the tablet does not see the bluetooth keyboard?

1) The most common thing is a dead keyboard battery. Especially if this is your first time trying to connect it to a tablet. Charge the keyboard battery first, and then try connecting it again.

2) Open system requirements and a description of your keyboard. What if it is not supported by Android at all (note also the Android version)?!

3) Yes special applications on Google Play, for example Russian Keyboard. By installing such an application (it will help when working with non-standard keyboards) it will quickly eliminate compatibility problems and the device will start working as expected...

Connecting a keyboard to a laptop (Windows 10)

In general, connect additional keyboard a laptop is required much less often than a tablet (after all, a laptop has one keyboard :)). But this may be necessary when, for example, the original keyboard is stained with tea or coffee and some keys do not work well on it. Let's look at how this is done on a laptop.

1) Turn on the keyboard

A similar step as in the first section of this article...

2) Does Bluetooth work?

Very often Bluetooth is not turned on at all on the laptop and the drivers are not installed on it... The easiest way to find out if it works wireless connection- just see if this icon is in the tray (see Fig. 7).

Rice. 7. Bluetooth works...

Delivery of drivers in 1 click:

3) If Bluetooth is turned off (for those who have it working, you can skip this step)

If you have installed (updated) the drivers, then it is not a fact that Bluetooth works for you. The point is that it can be turned off in Windows settings. Let's look at how to enable it in Windows 10.

First, open the START menu and go to settings (see Fig. 8).

Rice. 9. Go to Bluetooth settings.

Then turn on the Bluetooth network (see Fig. 10).

Rice. 14. Checking the seal...

I'll wrap it up here, good luck!

Today I will tell you how you can easily connect a keyboard to Android tablet or smartphone. This can be done in several ways: via USB OTG cable, network wifi adapter, Infrared or Bluetooth. After this, typing will become much easier for you, since many standard key combinations are available when you connect an external keyboard.

Before this, I have already published interesting posts on the topic of connecting various headsets to an Android tablet or smartphone that may interest you:

Connecting a keyboard to Android via USB OTG

To connect a regular wired keyboard to your Android tablet or smartphone, you need to buy an additional USB OTG cable. It costs only a couple of dollars and can be bought at any electronics store or radio market. On one side there will be a microUSB plug, and on the other there will be a USB connector into which you must connect your wired keyboard.

If your device is not equipped with a USB connector, then you will have to buy an additional adapter with a USB on one end and a connector suitable for your device on the other. You will need to insert a USB OTG cable into it.

How to connect a wireless keyboard to a smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth

If you want to connect a wireless keyboard, then this is even easier than with a wired headset. Simply make the peripheral device visible, turn on Bluetooth on your Android smartphone or tablet, go to Android's Bluetooth settings and select what exactly you want to connect to.

If you have a wireless keyboard with a radio interface, then you won’t be able to do without an OTG adapter. You will need to insert a USB receiver into it and turn on the keyboard.

And in order to use the Russian language when working with the keyboard, you need to download the Russian Keyboard application. The layout can be switched using the key combination Alt + Shift / Space or Shift + Space.

Today, all kinds of mobile gadgets are wildly popular, both among young people and the older generation. Year after year they are improving, becoming more technologically savvy, more functional and more productive. Due to the popularity and widespread use of this type of device, interest in peripheral equipment that can work with them has simultaneously grown. We are talking about manipulators such as mice, keyboards and joysticks.

Let's try to figure out whether it is possible to connect a keyboard to the tablet, how to do it and what we need for this. And at the same time, we’ll find out what arsenal of knowledge needs to be armed in this, albeit easy, but at the same time confusing enterprise.

Connection methods

  1. Wireless Wi-Fi protocol.
  2. Connection via infrared port or Bluetooth.
  3. Connect the mouse and keyboard to the tablet via a cable.

Each of the above methods has a number of both advantages and disadvantages, so which type of connection to choose depends entirely on you and the capabilities of your device.

Connection via cable or adapter

Most often, a tablet (you can connect a keyboard, mouse or joystick) is connected to peripherals via special cable or a USB port, if provided in the gadget. For correct operation of both devices connected via cable, the following requirements must be met.

Connection conditions:

  • the device must support the connected manipulator, and vice versa;
  • the mobile device must support OTG and USB-host technologies to interact with third-party manipulators at the hardware level;
  • Up-to-date drivers must be installed on the mobile device for correct interaction with peripherals at the software level.

Be sure to take into account the nuances described above before connecting a keyboard and mouse to your tablet.

Benefits of a physical connection

The main advantage of this method of synergy is the fact that you clearly know what exactly you have connected. It should also be noted that the speed of interaction between both devices is limited solely by the speed of the slowest device. In general, physically connected peripherals have the highest throughput, which is why experts advise synchronizing flash drives and 3G modems via cable in order to ensure maximum efficiency in data exchange between devices. Keep this in mind before connecting your keyboard to your tablet.

and Bluetooth

This method is slightly inferior in popularity to the first, but, even despite certain disadvantages, it continues to be in enviable demand. Before connecting a Bluetooth keyboard to the tablet, you must first establish a connection at the hardware level, if it has not been done in automatic mode.

To connect two devices via Bluetooth or via infrared, you must perform the following steps:

  1. Activate the infrared port or Bluetooth adapter on the peripheral device.
  2. Enable wireless protocols on your mobile gadget.
  3. Synchronize with an external device.

If your peripheral device is equipped only with an infrared port, then before connecting the keyboard to the tablet, keep in mind that this technology has long been outdated and many modern mobile gadgets no longer support IR protocols. As for the Bluetooth radio module, it continues to be improved and updated with new models and versions.

Advantages and disadvantages of wireless protocols

Connecting external devices via Bluetooth wireless protocols and infrared ports has a number of undeniable advantages that physical synchronization of devices lacks.

The main advantages of connecting peripherals via a radio module and infrared port:

  • independence and mobility of both devices - both peripheral and tablet/smartphone;
  • convenience and compactness;
  • ease of synchronization;
  • the ability to connect several peripheral devices (if adapter capabilities and operating system mobile gadget).

As for the shortcomings, there are not so many of them, although some of them may become critical for a certain circle of users. Although the connection is considered wireless, it has its own “leash”, which is limited or peripheral device. You can also note a small, but still latency in the response of the keyboard or mouse, which is unacceptable for most gamers. Take this into account before you engage in a practical solution to the question: “How to connect a keyboard to a tablet?”

Nevertheless, this method of connecting peripherals is considered a compact and universal solution with maximum capabilities.

Connection via Wi-Fi adapter

Before connecting a keyboard to a tablet via Wi-Fi protocols, a number of conditions must be met. Otherwise, successful synchronization is unlikely to succeed or will not be possible at all.

Connection conditions:

  1. The external device to be connected must be equipped with a Wi-Fi wireless module (preferably of the same standard as the mobile gadget).
  2. The keyboard or mouse should work without the use of any additional network adapter(like a router), otherwise the mobile device must take over this function.
  3. At the software level, the “masks” and IP addresses must match, which will allow the devices to be united into one network.
  4. Both devices must be able to independently and correctly process and send data in both directions.

Due to the specific and rather complex synchronization procedure, it is very difficult to find a mobile gadget with the ability to connect peripherals via Wi-Fi protocols, and therefore this method is more often used by printers or MFPs, that is, devices for which the speed of the return call is not so important, in difference from the same mouse or keyboard.

Configuration of mobile gadget and peripherals

In order for external devices to interact correctly with the tablet, you need to take care of the latest drivers for the peripherals. This will help to correctly and quickly transmit commands from one device to another and back. The software can be installed either automatically or with the help of the user. For example, after installing the drivers correctly and connecting the mouse to the mobile gadget, a familiar cursor will appear on the screen.

Software

To physically connect any peripheral keyboard via a USB port, it is better to use the popular and proven ruKeyboard utility. This software is able to work with almost any type of keyboard, and therefore is in enviable demand throughout the Russian Federation.

For correct settings The utility requires the following simple steps:

  1. Install the downloaded software (it is better to use the official resources of the developers).
  2. Go to the settings of your mobile gadget.
  3. Select the “Language and Settings” menu item.
  4. Place the radio beacon opposite the “ruKeyboard” position.
  5. Then, in the settings of the utility itself, select “Hardware Keyboard”.
  6. In the “Select Layout” menu branch, find the “External Keyboard” item and make it active.
  7. Open any text editor or browser, and in the settings specify the input method “ruKeyboard”.
  8. Connect your keyboard to your mobile device.
  9. Test the operation of all symbols.

After completing these steps, both devices should work correctly. If something goes wrong, it is better to start from the very beginning of the list and do all the steps again, without skipping anything.
