Keenetic lite 3 installation. Connecting the ZYXEL Keenetic Lite III router to a computer

Zyxel produces its own Wi-Fi routers. As has already become clear from previous experience, the manufacturer must provide its customers with an update once a year. After the next change, some modems received improved not only hardware, but also firmware. This happened with the Zyxel Keenetic Lite III Rev B device. Setting it up is as simple as possible. Let's look at some changes from its predecessor, Light II. In the updated version, the antennas are mounted not on the back, but on the side. Thanks to this solution, it is easier to mount the device on the wall. The power remains the same. On the back panel you can see the presence of mode switches. If we look at the new option in more detail, then in fact this is the implementation of a new chip. Its frequency is the same as it was - 580 MHz. Everything else is exactly the same for these two models.

Advantages

The described router can work with any provider and the network it provides. In this case, the choice of connection does not matter, since the device easily operates with each of the modern options. Although there are some exceptions - these are providers who use authorizers and similar options for Zyxel Keenetic Lite III. Setting up in PPPoE mode is described below.

Supports work with interactive television using various modern technologies.

Built-in module wireless communication 802.11n. Supports connection restrictions, guest mode (networks), and so on.

Can work with many third party services DNS: Sky and Yandex.

Batch assembly of router software is allowed, if necessary. This is done using a utility repository.

Connection

Before making any settings, you must connect the device to your computer or laptop. Changing the characteristics while working over a wireless connection is strictly not recommended. Otherwise, the Zyxel Keenetic Lite III router may break. The setup should begin with setting the main operating mode. Next you need to connect the power cable. How do you know that the router is turned on? The corresponding indicator on the front panel will light up. After this, you need to connect the provider's wire to the device, then to the computer. If everything was successful, another indicator will light up. Now all that remains is to create a home network. You need to take the wire that comes with the kit. It is short and clearly stands out from the rest. It's called a patchcord. One end must be connected to the router, the other to the computer’s network card. If there are any problems, you should find out the reasons. There are a number of nuances why the network card may not see the cable.

Reset

In order to reset the Zyxel Keenetic Lite III (which is highly recommended immediately after connecting the device and starting to work with it), you need to find special key on the body. It is located on the side surface of the router. It should be pressed with any thin object. You need to press for 10-15 seconds until the indicators start flashing. Then you should let go. After a minute, the router will reboot, all settings will be standard. Under no circumstances should the power be turned off during this process.

Login to Control Panel

After the router is turned on and the network card is configured, you can begin to configure the modem. You need to go to the device control panel. To do this, open any browser and go to 192.168.1.1. The welcome page will open. You do not need an Internet connection to work with this address.

After this, the router will ask for permission to automatic setup. It's pretty quick, but should be skipped for now. You should go straight to the web configuration. Immediately after the transition, the router will prompt you to set a new administrator password. The combination can be any. Next, you just need to click on the “Apply” button. This completes the setup of Zyxel Keenetic Lite III.

The page will reload and a dialog box will appear in which you must enter the login “admin” (in English) and the previously specified password. Next, just click on the OK button. Now the user can safely configure the router.

Basic setup

Many readers are interested step-by-step setup Zyxel Keenetic Lite III. It is this that will be presented later in the article. The router runs on software known to everyone as NDMS v2. Accordingly, it will be clear to everyone who has encountered it before. On the local network, the router has a standard address, the login is “admin”, and the password, as usual, is 1234. When entering the configurator, the client will immediately see a dialog box launched by the program for quick setup. It is necessary in order to easily connect to the provider’s network and receive an Internet signal. If you need to set more global settings, you will have to do this manually. Now let's look at the instructions on how to make a quick setup.

Instructions

At the very beginning, the installer will ask the user whether the provider is tied to any MAC addresses, and what components are needed to work with the external network. Often, if the company providing the services is large, you can check the box next to “MAC addresses are not registered.” However, you can find out for sure whether there is a link only by contacting the provider directly. If it is still present, it is best to create a new address. However, some users simply clone it - this option is also suitable. How can I find out my base address? It is registered on the router. You can see it on the sticker located on the bottom of the device. If for some reason this cannot be done, you must use the computer command line. After specifying the address or clicking the checkbox, click on the “Next” button.

The IP address should be determined automatically if the provider works with a dynamic connection type. Otherwise, you should ask the company what settings are required for the IP item. After clicking on the “Next” button, an icon appears with changing the login data.

Here you are asked for a password and login, which are specified by the provider. They will provide access to the Internet. If an IPoE connection is established, as well as a dynamic or static address, you can check the box that says there is no password. And according to the standard, click on the “Next” button.

Additionally

The last setting is the device connection parameters. From this moment on, you can turn on the router to the network and test the connection.

If there is a need to change advanced settings, click on the “Web Configurator” button. IN automatic mode the program will ask for a new password to access the device (standard “1234”). It is imperative to change it, as this will ensure greater data security.

Setting up for Rostelecom, Dom.ru and TTK

Unfortunately, the method described above is only suitable for those branches that require PPPoE as a connection type for Zyxel Keenetic Lite III. Setting up an access point for Rostelecom and others is easy and even quick.

In order to go into the settings that provide access to the Network, you need to go to the “Internet” section, and then to the “Connection” menu. There the user will see the “Broadband connection” column. This is where you need to configure a port that can work with the WAN. You can choose any connector - it doesn't matter. In order to do this, check the box next to “Use connector”. In this case, the user should check whether the checkboxes next to “Activate” and “Apply to use the signal” are checked. If the provider works with MAC addresses, you need to check the box next to “No IP”. The MAC values should be left as standard - “Default”. After this, you need to click on the “Save” button. Next, you need to open the PPPoE/VPN column and click on “Add connection”. Here you need to check the box next to “Enable”. There is very little left to do to get the Zyxel Keenetic Lite III router working. Setting up for Rostelecom is simple.

In the “Description” column, any set of letters is indicated - this is the name of the network. Protocol - PPPoE. Also nearby is the “Connect via” list. In it you need to select the WAN connection that was created earlier. In this case, the name of the service can be left blank. A password and username are required. The "Authentication Method" must be automatic. Afterwards, click on the “Save” button. This completes the setup. You can insert the cable into the required port and test the network.

Setting up for Beeline

In order for the router to work with the Beeline provider, you need to create a dynamic IP address with an L2TP tunnel. Let's look at how to do it.

You need to go to the “Internet” section, there in the “Connection” menu. You need to click on “Broadband connection”. A blue check mark will be displayed next to it, and next to it it will be written “Use connector”. If the user also uses IPTV from the same provider, you should check the box next to the second port with which the specified function is used.

Next, you should go down the page below and see if there are checkboxes next to “Activate interface” and “Use for working with the network.” IP settings should be configured automatically. Under no circumstances should you check the box next to “Without an IP address.” After this, you should save the specified settings. All that remains is to create an L2TP connection. You need to go to the “PPPoE/VPN” tab and click on the “Add” button. As usual, you need to check the boxes next to “Enable” and “Apply to work with the network.” The protocol must be L2TP. The server address must include a name virtual network provider. The username usually represents a personal account. You need to come up with a password yourself. should be automatic. Next, it remains to save the changes made and test the Zyxel Keenetic Lite III connection.

Among all the variety on the market wireless routers Zyxel products occupy one of the leading positions. Recently the manufacturer introduced a new product - WiFi router model range Keenetic Lite 3. The device has a large number of various functions, and therefore many users have difficulty setting it up. This is exactly what we will talk about next.

Connecting Zyxel Keenetic Lite 3 to a computer

Of course, as a communication device with the router, you can use not only a PC, but also any gadget that supports WiFi - a phone, tablet, etc. But it is better and more correct to do this directly from the computer via the network cable that is included with the modem.

So if you take a look at back panel router, you will see the following picture:

From left to right:

  • Operating modes. We will not consider each mode, since you are unlikely to use them all. Just slide the switch to “Basic” and we’ll move on. Or you can familiarize yourself with each mode in detail in the instructions included with the router in the box.
  • Home network. Yellow colored sockets are intended for connecting network (LAN) cables to them. That is, you can connect up to 4 computers to the router at the same time, thus creating a small local network. You will also need one end of the included network cable connect to one of these ports, the other to the computer.
  • Internet. The blue socket is the WAN port. You need to connect your Internet cable to it (the cable that comes to your home or office outside - from the provider).
  • Nutrition. Connect the plug from the power supply into the hole. Then press the button, which will turn on the device - now you can directly begin setting up.

You can move on to the next step immediately, but we recommend that you first reset the router settings to default values. This will save you from possible difficulties that often arise when reconfiguring routers. It's easy to do. Take a thin, pin-thin object (the tip of a ballpoint pen will do), then look on the side of the device for the small hole labeled “Reset.” Insert the object into it until it clicks and hold in this position for about 7-8 seconds. The front panel indicators will begin to blink - this is a signal that the reset was successful and you can continue.

We go to the web interface of the router

The web interface is part of the operating system built into the router, providing users with the ability to configure device operating parameters. To access it, you will need any browser. On the bottom of the router is the address for logging into the router.

Launch your Internet Explorer and go to the specified address. After pressing Enter, a welcome window will appear in front of you, prompting you to make quick settings for Zyxel Keenetic Lite:

However, here we will consider exclusively manual setting. Click the "Web Configurator" button as shown in the image above. Next, the device will display a dialog in which you have to enter the password for the web interface.

Enter any password with confirmation. Click "Apply". The page will automatically reload and you will now see the web interface login form.

We use admin as the username, and the password we came up with earlier. Click OK and move on.

Setting up Internet Zyxel Keenetic Lite 3

There are several technologies for establishing communication with an external network. If your supplier uses the simplest type of access, called Dynamic IP, then you should already have Internet access the first time you connected the router to your computer. Otherwise, your provider most likely uses a more complex connection type. If this is the case, then go to the section responsible for creating a connection - click on the planet icon at the bottom of the page.

Currently, 3 connection types are widely used - PPPoE (most common), PPtP (second most popular) and L2tp. Before you proceed, call your Internet provider to confirm the type of Internet they use.

PPPoE

Select PPPoE/VPN from the top of the page. Afterwards, click the “Add connection” button.

On the page that opens, you only have to fill out a few fields:

  • Authentication data (fields: Username, Password).
  • From the "Configure IP settings" list, select "Automatic". If your Internet service provider has additionally provided you with IP and other network addresses, then you will have to enter them by selecting the appropriate option from the list.
  • Leave the rest as shown in the image, then click Apply.

PPTP

This technology will require you to additionally enter the server address and other network addresses. They should be in your hands. Or call your Internet provider and find out the necessary information.

Repeat everything as in the picture above, except for the server address and authentication data that you must have. In the case of IP parameters, use the network addresses issued to you if required by your provider.

L2TP

Although the technology is different from PPTP, its settings are practically the same. Here you will also need to enter your provider’s server address and authentication data.

WiFi

All that remains is to set the settings for the WiFi network. To go to settings, click on the corresponding icon at the bottom of the page:

The following picture will appear in front of you:

It's simple:

  • First, enter any name you like for your future WiFi network by filling out the appropriate field (this name will be displayed in the results of WiFi networks detected by your phone or PC).
  • Specify the WPA2-PSK type as the network security option, as in the picture.
  • Set a password (make it complex - letters and numbers).
  • Click Apply.

After this operation, the Internet on your PC or other communication device should work.

The universal and most economical version of the router for working with wired networks and distributing a Wi-Fi network in the Kinetic family is the Zyxel Keenetic Lite iii. This device has a standard configuration (removable antenna, 5 LAN connection ports and one WAN, LED information panel) and software. You can easily set it up even on your own, which is why this step-by-step instruction was developed.

First of all, we need to connect the router and do some network connection settings on the PC. To prepare the device for operation, do the following:

  • Carefully unpack the Zyxel Keenetic Lite, take out all the components and find the antenna among them;
  • On the back panel of the router, find the hole into which you can then connect the repeater;
  • After installing the antenna, remove the power supply, insert the plug into the corresponding slot also on the rear panel and turn on the device;
  • The color-coded connector is intended for incoming channel(WAN port). We insert a cable from the Internet provider into it;
  • In one of the nearby ports we insert a cord connecting the Zyxel Keenetic Lite router and network card your PC (included, short as standard);
  • Set the extreme mode switch to the “Main” position;
  • We press the power button and watch the indicator panel: approximately, after 15-20 seconds, the beacons of the connected Internet line, 1 user and, in some cases, Wi-Fi should light up.

Now our router is ready to go. You also need to prepare your computer:

  • Turn on the PC and make sure that it sees the connected network (the indicator in the lower right corner will display the connection status);
  • Right-click on this icon to open the Control Center, then look for the blue name of the network in it (opposite the word “Connections”).
  • Click on it and then on the Properties button;
  • Another window will appear in front of you with a list and the ability to scroll: scroll it to the very end;
  • Having selected the fourth version of the Internet protocol, click on the properties button to open a new window;
  • We set the selectors to automatically receive all parameters;
  • Repeat the same for the sixth version of the protocol.

As soon as the manipulations described above are completed, you can proceed further.

Having opened any of the installed Internet browsers (browsers), enter the following address in the address bar, allowing you to access software devices – 192.168.1.1

Open the browser, enter http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar

Afterwards we need to do a number of operations:

  • Enter the “admin” key in both authorization fields and click OK;
  • In the welcome window that opens, select the web configurator;
  • In response to the offer, we recommend that you immediately change the password (this is the access key to the device itself, and not Wi Fi or IPTV). Immediately after this, the router will reboot and you will have to log in again with the same login “admin” and a new password;
  • Now you see the main web interface of the Zyxel router Keenetic III, pay attention to the menu (icons) below. In order to set up the Internet for Beeline, Rostelecom and any other, we need the same tab, second from the left, in the form of an icon global network- Internet;
  • To configure all the main types of wired connections, go to the PPoE/VPN tab (top menu).

Now let's look at setting up each type separately.

Dom.ru and Rostelecom | PPPoE

For PPoE: This standard is used by providers such as Dom.ru, Rostelecom.

  • Click on the button under the interface table and add a connection.
  • In the table that opens, first of all we indicate the type we are interested in – PPPoE;
  • In the fields below we indicate the authorization data from the provider (login and password) specified in the contract. If there is no password in the documents, call customer support and they will provide it to you.
  • We check that in the first two selectors (at the beginning of the page) the “Enable” and “Use” checkboxes are selected;
  • We apply the settings, check the availability of the Internet.

VPN

For PPTP: A fairly popular protocol that uses VPN servers.

  • Add a new connection;
  • Set the protocol type;
  • If you previously created a separate interface, indicate in the appropriate line that Zyxel Keenetic Lite iii should use it, and not the standard “Broad Connection...”;
  • Just as in the previous case, enter authorization data;
  • We set automatic configuration of IP parameters.
  • We change the remaining fields, such as the protection method and service names, only at the request of the provider (if specified in the instructions);
  • Save the settings and check the connection is working;

Beeline | L2TP

For L2TP: A new and promising type on which Beeline networks operate. The setup is practically no different from PPTP.

  • Click on create a new connection;
  • Select the protocol type L2TP;
  • We leave the standard interface;
  • We find the VPN address in the contract, which we then indicate in the corresponding field of the server address;
  • Personal authorization data from the contract;
  • IP should be configured automatically;
  • We choose a protection method based on the information in the instructions from the provider (or we call the customer support service);
  • We do not touch the remaining fields, we apply the settings;
  • We check the availability of the Internet from Beeline;

If the connection does not appear or the router has already been configured previously, which is why you were unable to establish a connection, you can reset the Zyxel Keenetic Lite iii settings to factory settings and try again. The easiest way to do this is to find the Reset inscription on the back panel, above which there is a button recessed into the body. To press it, take a pen or something else with a thin rod. Hold this button down for 10-15 seconds. The router will reboot and start again with the original settings.

Wi-Fi setup

Wi-Fi communication is a type of radio waves through which Internet data packets are transmitted towards the user and the router. To set up a new wifi channel you need to open the web configurator again: enter the device’s IP address in the address bar, go through authorization with a new password, find the “Wi Fi” item in the bottom menu, click on it.

The window that opens contains a pool of wireless connection settings that is the same for any provider, be it Beeline, MTS or Rostelecom:

  • Network name – write the name for your access point with a lowercase letter (some devices do not accept capitalized names well). You will see it on your computer and smartphone, opening the list of available Wi-Fi connections;
  • The network key indicates the field for entering the connection password. Write down a combination of letters and numbers in it that will be remembered well and will not allow strangers to connect to your WiFi router.
  • As a method of data protection, we install the most effective encryption protocol today, WPA2-PSK, which will protect information from theft (Rostelecom does not independently encrypt incoming and outgoing Wi-Fi traffic);
  • The choice of channel can be left to the router by leaving the value “Auto” in the corresponding field, or you can set it yourself. This should only be done when there are too many networks around, operating in 1 channel (in this case, the speed of your connection will be low, check first);
  • We do not touch the remaining fields.

Applying the changes. This completes the Wi-Fi setup for Zyxel Keenetic Lite.

P.S. Many branded routers, including devices from Rostelecom, have a pre-configured wireless connection, the details of which (name and password) are indicated on the bottom panel (bottom). But after resetting the data, these settings will be lost.

Setting up IP-TV

To view IPTV from Beeline or Rostelecom, you need to perform a few simple manipulations:

  • We enter the web interface of the router, then go to the Internet tab of the bottom menu;
  • Select the Connection tab in the top menu and click on the previously configured Broadcom Connection;
  • We put a tick in the selector of one of the additional slots, in addition to WLAN (in the first line);
  • Apply the changes and insert the cable for IPTV into the selected slot.

These settings can be made either over a wired connection or via WiFi. For additional information, you should refer to the documents supplied by the provider, especially if you have Rostelecom. And this completes the comprehensive setup of the Zyxel Keenetic Lite router! All other functions, including RDP, will become available without additional manipulations.

Setting up Internet access

Setting up the router involves specifying the MAC address from your personal account. For normal operation it is important that these addresses match.

You can:

1. Specify in the router settings the MAC address of your computer specified in personal account;

2. Specify the MAC address of the router in your personal account.

In the first case, you have the ability to quickly switch to working without a router, without any reconfiguration. In the second case, you will be forced to change the MAC address in your personal account every time you turn off the router. Therefore, we recommend using the first setting option.

Setting up a router for DC++

For the DC++ file sharing network to work correctly, you must do the following.

1. Assign specific IP addresses to your computers (not all routers have this feature). This is necessary for port forwarding to work correctly. The fact is that to work in DC++, your computer must be able to receive incoming data from the outside. This is exactly what Port Forwarding is used for, which redirects all incoming data on a specific port to the IP address of your computer that you specified when setting up Port Forwarding. If this address changes, DC++ will not work. To keep your computers' IP addresses unchanged, we configure Static DHCP. In other words, we tell the router to always assign a specific IP address to a computer with a particular MAC address.

2. Configure incoming data to be redirected to the appropriate IP addresses of your computers.

First, reserve specific computers in your home network specific IP addresses. Open the Home Network menu and select Networking. In the window that opens, in the “Leased IP address” section, the MAC and IP addresses of all connected computers will be listed. Check the box next to the IP addresses that you want to assign to the corresponding MAC addresses. Click the "Commit" button.

IMPORTANT: Remember your reserved IP addresses. This will come in handy when setting up Port Forwarding.

If for some reason there is no data in the “Leased IP address” table, you can enter it manually in the form below.

MAC address can be found out in the following ways.

1. If the computer received an IP address from the router, then its IP and MAC addresses will appear in the corresponding columns of the “Local network settings” list (network connection properties).

2. Click “Start” -> “Run” -> “cmd /k ipconfig /all” -> “Ok”. Find the line with your IP. Two lines above, in the “Physical Address” field, your MAC will be indicated.

3. Click Start -> Run -> getmac. This command will issue full list MAC addresses on your computer without specifying their corresponding IP addresses.

Configuring Port Forwarding

Let's expand the menu home network and select the item Servers.

In the window that appears:

Place a check mark next to the item Open access to home network services.

In some firmware versions this item may be called "Enable port forwarding".

Click the "Apply" button.

In the “List of open home network services” section, you must perform the following steps.

1. In the “Service” field, select “Other” or an empty line (depending on the firmware version).

2. In the “Computer IP address” field, enter the IP that you reserved earlier.

3. In the Protocol field, select TCP and UDP.

4. In the “Port Range” field, enter 4000.

5. In the “To” field, also enter 4000.

6. In the Description field, enter DC++.

Click the "Add" button.

If everything is done correctly, then just below the button Add you will see an entry about the added rule.

If DC++ is intended to be used on several computers, a similar operation must be performed. When adding rules for other computers, you must specify the IP addresses of other computers and other ports.

For example:

computer 1: IP 192.168.1.33, port 4000, rule name DC++;

computer 2: IP 192.168.1.34, port 4001, rule name DC++_2;

computer 3: IP 192.168.1.35, port 4002, rule name DC++_3;

To avoid future problems, all IP addresses should be reserved. How to do this, read above.

Setting up a connection in the DC++ client

    Go to your DC client settings: “File” -> “Settings” or just press Ctrl-O. Then select the connection settings section.

    In the first field Network interface for all connections select address 0.0.0.0.

    Make sure Firewall with Manual Port Forwarding is selected and the TCP and UDP ports are set to 4000.

    Make sure that the “Update IP at startup” checkbox is checked, and in the “IP update interval in minutes” field, set it to 10.

    Make sure that your IP address is indicated in the External / WAN IP field.

    In the first line under the button Find IP addresses the address must be http://dc..php

    In the firewall, for your DC client, ports 4000 must be open for the TCP and UDP protocols. The UDP protocol is needed for search to work.

    In the settings of your favorite hub, the “IP” field should be empty.

    You can easily find out your internal VPN IP address by clicking “Find IP addresses” in the same window. Once you click to the left of this button, your VPN IP address will appear.

ATTENTION!!! By clicking "Find IP Addresses" you will get the correct IP only if you have specified correct addresses checking scripts. The first line should contain http://dc..php ,
and in the second http://dc..php

Wi-Fi setup

Change Wi-Fi settings" in front of the picture to: "Open the menu" Wi-Fi network" and select "Connection".

In the window that opens:

Check the box next to “Enable wireless access point.”

In the “Network name (SSID)” field, enter the name of your Wi-Fi network – for example 2KOM-WiFi.

Check the box next to "Enable" Wi-Fi mode Multimedia (WMM)".

Leave the remaining fields unchanged.

Click the "Apply" button.

In the window that appears, click Ok

To ensure that only you have access to your Wi-Fi network, you need to enable security. Protection is carried out by encrypting the radio signal using a code word. There are several types of encryption: WEP, WPA and WPA2. Since WEP encryption is not strong enough, we recommend using WPA2 encryption.

The code word must be from 8 to 63 characters. To configure the protection of your WiFi network:

Open the "Wi-Fi Network" menu and go to the "Security" section.

In the Authentication column, select WPA2-PSK.

In the “Protection type” column, select “TKIP-AES”.

In the “Network Key Format” column, select ASCII.

In the column " Network key(ASCII)" enter your password. It can contain from 8 to 63 characters.

Click the "Apply" button.

After applying the settings, your router is configured and ready for full operation.” correct it to “After applying the specified parameters, your router will be configured and ready for full operation.
