Touch bar does not work on macbook. Touch Bar in the new MacBooks: what kind of beast is it?

Fair, not overpriced and not underestimated. There should be prices on the Service website. Necessarily! without asterisks, clear and detailed, where technically possible - as accurate and concise as possible.

If spare parts are available, up to 85% of complex repairs can be completed in 1-2 days. Modular repairs require much less time. The website shows the approximate duration of any repair.

Warranty and responsibility

A guarantee must be given for any repairs. Everything is described on the website and in the documents. The guarantee is self-confidence and respect for you. A 3-6 month warranty is good and sufficient. It is needed to check quality and hidden defects that cannot be detected immediately. You see honest and realistic terms (not 3 years), you can be sure that they will help you.

Half the success in Apple repair is the quality and reliability of spare parts, so a good service works with suppliers directly, there are always several reliable channels and its own warehouse with proven spare parts current models so that you don't have to waste extra time.

Free diagnostics

This is very important and has already become a rule of good manners for service center. Diagnostics is the most difficult and important part of the repair, but you don't have to pay a penny for it, even if you don't repair the device based on its results.

Service repairs and delivery

Good service We value your time, which is why we offer free shipping. And for the same reason, repairs are carried out only in the workshop of a service center: they can be done correctly and according to technology only in a prepared place.

They will try to solve the problem. In most cases, from the description you can understand what happened and how to fix the problem.

If Last update The iPhone turned out to be very controversial, then laptops MacBook Pro received the most significant update in the entire history of the line. And it’s not just a significantly updated case design, a new set of connectors and improved performance, but also the appearance of an innovative control element: the Touch Bar with a Touch ID fingerprint scanner. Like any other product, the new MacBook Pro 2016 has both its pros and cons. What impressions did a professional Apple laptop leave after three months of use, further in the MacDigger article.

The defining feature of any MacBook is its design. Whether you're a Mac or PC fan, it's hard to deny that appearance and the build quality of the MacBook is at a level unattainable for many manufacturers. In terms of design, Apple has always been impeccable.

The appearance of the new MacBook Pro is radically updated compared to previous models. We can say that Apple has made a hybrid of the previous MacBook Pro and the 12-inch MacBook. The screen resolution has not changed compared to the previous generation, but its quality has increased significantly and when directly compared with its predecessor, the difference is immediately noticeable. Higher maximum panel brightness, saturation and contrast. MacBook Pro can now be used outdoors in bright sunshine.

The 2016 MacBook Pro has an updated keyboard mechanism so that key travel is barely noticeable, which may feel awkward at first. But once you get used to it, the rest computer keyboards will seem terrible to you.

As before, the laptop's all-metal body looks impeccable, but it's not particularly scratch-resistant. Over time, marks may appear on it, so it is better to get a cover.

A special feature of the new generation MacBook is its huge touchpad. Traditionally, the trackpad on Apple laptops is unrivaled, but the need to increase it to such a size is questionable. The touchpad is really big, comparable to the iPhone 7 Plus. This does not provide any additional benefits. The fact is that before the touchpad did not seem small at all, and there is no feeling that increasing it gives any significant increase in the comfort of use.

But the main complaint may be the transition to USB-C. This can really be a problem at first, and Apple should have at least left a memory card slot. But if you think that you will have to carry a bunch of adapters with you, then you are mistaken. In most cases, one single adapter with “classic” USB ports and a slot for SD cards. In addition, devices for wireless data transmission are available on the market. For example, MobiLite Wireless Pro with a built-in battery. It allows you to transfer data wirelessly from any device.

Apple is striving to establish the USB-C format as the only and universal one, and in principle there is a chance to force a general transition to it. Accordingly, if today for owners of MacBook Pro 2016 and MacBook 12″ connecting a USB drive becomes a headache, then after some time, on the contrary, owners of laptops with old connectors will experience the same torment, because the industry will gradually switch to USB-C .

There are only two in this concept weak points. Firstly, for some reason Apple is not switching to USB-C in the iPhone and iPad, although most competitors already use USB-C in smartphones and tablets. And secondly, even if this universal adoption of USB-C as the main and universal format ever takes place, it will clearly not happen in the next two years. This means that by the time the “happy future” arrives, the current “software” will already be obsolete.

I'm pleased to be able to charge the MacBook Pro from external battery, but the proprietary MagSafe port is missing. Moreover, the 15-inch model consumes 85W, so a regular portable charger won't charge it while in use. The 13-inch MacBook Pro consumes 65 W, so you can both use the gadget and charge the battery.

What I definitely like are the stereo speakers on the left and right of the keyboard. They give good enough and loud noise, to the extent possible in principle in such a form factor.

On the Internet you can often find complaints about the poor autonomy of the new MacBooks. Unfortunately, real time battery life really far from Apple's claimed 10 hours. When performing complex tasks like video editing, a 15-inch laptop lasts 1-2 hours, and during normal use – 3-4. Things are a little better with the 13-inch model, which has a 5-6 hour battery life, but it's not even close to 10 hours.

The advantage of the new MacBook is definitely its performance, which exceeds all expectations. Despite the fact that the laptop does not have the latest hardware, the MacBook Pro 2016 is more productive than top-end Windows machines. There are no problems when editing 4K video when it comes to Final Cut Pro.

Upsets the limit random access memory 16 GB, which is especially noticeable when editing large videos. The laptop supports connecting an external 5K display via USB-C. The Mac simultaneously transmits images and charges the battery, but overall impressions of this combination are mixed. In normal tasks everything works fine, but under significant loads the performance may not be enough.

As for the Touch Bar, you can doubt its necessity in terms of everyday use, but this is an innovation that can justify the upgrade and immediately sets the MacBook Pro 2016 apart from all other models. It is logical to assume that other manufacturers will also begin to experiment in this direction.

The Touch Bar is an attempt to come up with another control element besides the touchpad and keyboard. But at the same time, this is a rethinking of the keyboard, because the Touch Bar replaces the top row of keys and can imitate them.

Although, despite all its innovation, the Touch Bar is a rather controversial solution, unlikely to significantly increase productivity and greatly facilitate interaction with a laptop. If you set a goal to learn how to use it to the fullest and unlock the potential of the Touch Bar, you will be able to find optimal scenarios where the touch panel is really much more convenient than the usual methods of interacting with a laptop. But it’s impossible to say that after using the MacBook Pro 2016 it will be difficult to return to a regular MacBook Pro without the Touch Bar.

The last thing worth noting is the fingerprint scanner. Well, in fact: top tablets, which most people use as toys, have a fingerprint scanner, but professional laptops, where the user has important documents, projects, archives Email and other things that should never fall into the wrong hands, the fingerprint sensor is still new. But now Apple will most likely build it into every laptop, which means other vendors will have to too. Again, a big plus for all users - even those who would never buy a MacBook.

Technically touch sensor The ID is not part of the touchpad, but is located to the right of it. Using a fingerprint scanner for quick authorization and online purchases is very convenient.

The most important question is: is this laptop worth buying? The answer depends on budget and personal preference. Apple relied on thickness and dimensions, innovation and the “wow factor”, which presented the user with a difficult choice: it seems that according to the logic of things, one should buy the latest model, if you have money, the more it is so cool, but if a laptop is taken to make money with its help, then doubt creeps in about the advisability of such a decision.

It is clear that Apple laptops have always been expensive, especially top-end ones, but when we bought the classic MacBook Pro Retina 15″, we clearly understood what we would get: a top-end device for all occasions, absolutely understandable and predictable. MacBook Pro 2016 is something new, an experiment, and here everyone must decide for themselves: is he ready to spend money on this experiment and get used to the features of the new product, or is it better to wait until the innovations that Apple has implemented here become standard de facto.

It promised to become iconic and revolutionary. This year Apple laptops turns 25 years old, the Pro and Air lines have not been updated for a long time, everyone was waiting for a bunch of “amazings”.

Tim Cook and his team tried to keep the public's interest for more than an hour, but at the same time they showed only one new product. year on the Air line (laptops are more powerful and smaller) and set a new standard in the segment of compact but powerful ultrabooks.

The main innovation of the firmware was the second display, or rather the touch panel Touch Bar.

I believe that the new feature is a step back, and not a cool revolutionary innovation; there are a number of complaints about this engineering solution.

1. Why was the top row of keys removed?

Many users regularly use EFKs for work; they often adjust the display brightness or the volume of the device without even looking at the keyboard. Now you can't do this blindly, and when another application's buttons appear in the panel, you'll have to switch to the Finder or desktop to turn down the volume or increase the brightness of the keyboard backlight.

The touch key raises the most questions Escape. The button is quite often used in games and applications, touch input without feedback however, not the best solution.

2. Panel height is too low

During the presentation, we saw how the Touch Bar helps when working in professional applications. The panel contains keys for applying various effects; you can view the color palette or timeline, depending on the program.

From my experience working in video editors, I can say that sometimes even a third of the screen is not enough to comfortably work with the Timeline, not to mention a small strip the size of a cut-down key.

The display of photo windows with open Safari tabs in the preview panel causes a fit of laughter. On big screen This looks fine during a presentation, but try looking down at the keyboard and imagining a series of pictures the size of the F1 button.

3. There is no feedback

Clicking a virtual button has no feedback. The user will have to control the operation of the keys at all times.

4. Constantly changing panel capabilities

It will be very difficult to learn the location of changing icons, which means that the speed of working at the computer will decrease. Only when working with Photoshop or Final Cut Pro, the panel can change depending on the selected tool, the selected operating mode, or the selected area of photos and videos.

It’s simply impossible to get used to such a variety of icons on the Touch Bar.

5. Why duplicate hotkeys

Most of the actions that were performed using the touchpad during the presentation can be done by pressing the corresponding hot keys. Shortcuts have been present in the system for a long time, we are used to them and have learned the necessary ones; we can quickly press them blindly.

Why instead shift your gaze to the touchpad and press down on the sensor without feedback?

6. Cross on touch dialing

But I began to master the 10-finger touch typing method and was already accustomed to not looking at the keyboard of my computer. Why is Apple trying to take me back a step again so that I regularly “jump” my eyes between the buttons and the screen.

PC users in the US, 95% of whom have touch typing skills, will have to get used to looking at the keys to perform certain actions.

It was very sad to see how all the presenters at the presentation were forced to bury their eyes on the keyboard in order to convince us of its convenience and usefulness.

A ray of light

The only necessary feature in the new panel is the Touch ID sensor. It significantly expands the capabilities of laptops, allows you to pay for purchases without smartphones and instantly switch between user accounts.

Unfortunately, the fingerprint scanner was not included in the junior MacBook model without touchpad.

We are very interested in your opinion about the main innovation of 2016.

No matter what Tim Cook says, Apple has once again proven that it frankly doesn’t care about the Mac family. Rumors that circulated before the presentation predicted a total update of the entire line of computers, however, only the MacBook Pro series was lucky. Apart from the expected cosmetic and hardware upgrade, the only thing the new firmware could boast of was the Touch Bar, a touch panel that eliminated a number of function keys and brought a completely different Mac experience.

Trying to keep emotions in check, we will try to talk about the new MacBook Pro in a classic style, that is, let's start with the dimensions. Apple never tires of repeating that size matters: the 13- and 15-inch versions are 14 and 17 percent smaller (14.9 and 15.5 mm) compared to their predecessors; models dropped 3 and 4 pounds (1.3 and 1.8 kg) and slimmed down quite a bit overall. What are we talking about - MacBook Pro 2016 is even thinner MacBook Air who should have been retired a long time ago. From a design point of view, Yabloko made a muscular modification of a simple MacBook from the firmware and, I must say, we liked it.

Of course, we also worked on performance, demonstrating our love for the Radeon family of graphics processors. Just in case, we note that Apple has assigned the 15-inch model the role of a powerful flagship, providing it with the most aggressive hardware:

  • quad core Intel processor Core i7 2.6 or 2.7 GHz, overclocked Turbo Boost up to 3.5 or 3.6 GHz respectively;
  • 16 GB of RAM with a frequency of 2133 MHz;
  • graphics adapter Radeon Pro 450 or 455
  • 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports
  • Touch Bar and Touch ID

Three 13-inch models boast the following characteristics:

  • dual-core Intel Core i5 processor with a frequency of 2.0 or 2.9 GHz, with Turbo Boost up to 3.1 or 3.3 GHz, respectively;
  • 8 GB of RAM with a frequency of 1866 or 2133 MHz;
  • 256 or 512 GB SSD;
  • Intel Iris Graphics 540 or 550
  • 2 or 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports
  • Touch Bar and Touch ID (the lowest version does not have them)

By the way, it’s quite interesting that Apple chose to completely remove the innovative Touch Bar and fingerprint sensor from the “budget” model. Also, any more or less advanced user will notice that new Pro disgracedly switched to the Thunderbolt 3 interface, which arrived in 2015 and promises new horizons both in working with external devices and in power supply. On the body this standard expressed in the form of USB-C ports, which have proven themselves successfully. They allow you to connect two displays in 5K resolution, provide a speed of 40 Gbps and full charging. True, prices for a basic two-meter cable are at the level of 11 thousand rubles. And that's just the cable!

The GPU on the Radeon Pro 450 (455) promises a twofold increase in performance. Solid State Drives boast a 50% increase in speed. The declared battery life for all versions is at around 10 hours (when watching movies and surfing the web).

Now to the screen. The already gorgeous Retina displays are now 67% brighter and more contrasty, and their colors are 23% more saturated. Schiller said nothing more.

The keyboard in the new MacBook Pro provides a more stable response, that is, the key travel has been improved. The butterfly mechanism is still used, but now of the second generation. But that's not the main thing. The main thing is a twice as large trackpad with the Force Touch function: the yard box has been transformed into an entire football field for your fingers!

We doubt that the increased speaker range and increased volume threshold will seriously affect the sound, given the design of the MacBook Pro, but this fact costs.

And now we move on to the most interesting, most revolutionary part of the review and presentation as a whole - the Touch Bar and the Touch ID sensor. Everyone is familiar with the latter from the iPhone, where the fingerprint sensor appeared with the iPhone 5s in 2013. It works the same way on Macs: you simply tap your finger to unlock macOS without entering a password. Also, thanks to Touch ID, purchases on sites with Apple support Pay. All scanner activities are focused on the Apple T1 chip.

The fingerprint sensor is smarter than what is used on iOS. If several users work on a computer, each has their own account and, accordingly, your customized fingerprint, then macOS, having recognized the owner, will instantly switch to the data of the person who just accessed Touch ID.

We decided to leave the Touch Bar for last to give our thoughts a chance to gather in our heads. A number of function keys on the new MacBook Pro have disappeared, Escape has disappeared, but an extraordinary (in all respects) feature has been added, which in some places radically simplifies, and in others, on the contrary, complicates the work.

Touch Bar can be flexibly adjusted to various applications. What I liked most was how the know-how behaves behind the DJ console, allowing you to compose mixes using several virtual sliders displayed above the keyboard. Also, the Touch Bar is quite productively combined with video and music editors, moving around the ribbon or using editing tools.

But the behavior in the browser, instant messengers, Photos and Photoshop applications raised a bunch of questions that tear apart the concept of working with a MacBook Pro as a whole. Why look for a website tab on a narrow panel when you can make one click in Safari? Why is there an address bar, navigation buttons and predictive input, when all this is much more convenient to use through a keyboard or trackpad? Have you noticed how carefully Craig Frederighi chose the emoji on the Touch Bar? There are a lot of controversial issues, and we’ll keep silent about working in Photoshop, because the user will have to literally be torn between the usual input tools and the sliders on the touch panel.

Again, we repeat that such a thing as the Touch Bar needs to be tried out personally, applied to work applications for every day, let into your world, and not criticized in absentia, since the feature turned out to be really ambiguous. Someone, the same DJ, will raise the Touch Bar to the skies, and a journalist, touch typing, will laugh at how they want to force him to look at the keyboard, although he learned the opposite.

It remains to talk about the configuration and prices. MacBook Pro 2016 will be available in two colors: Silver and Space Gray. To become the owner of the new firmware, you will have to fork out at least 119,990 rubles - the cost of the most budget 13″ version without Touch Bar and Touch ID; the maximum configuration for 15″ will cost you 222,990 rubles. All prices and modifications are presented above.

Of course, the update of the MacBook Pro line to meet the requirements of 2016 is a very encouraging event: the workhorses have become more compact, lighter, more powerful, received unlocking via Touch ID and a unique Touch Bar, which - we have no doubt - will prove itself, but... But what about the Mac mini, which was last upgraded in 2014? Why didn't they say a word about the iMac? Will the Air series be retired? Will the price tag of a Mac Pro, still running on 2013 hardware, exceed a million rubles (maybe Apple is afraid of it :)? Alas, these questions remain unanswered for now.

Oktyabrskaya Apple presentation 80 percent was devoted new Touch Bar. DJs played their tracks on it, Photoshoppers tested it, scrolled through videos and emails with it. This is the main innovation in MacBook Pro. What's good about it?

OLED touch display

For starters, MacBooks have lost the top row of the keyboard (the one above the numbers and plus/minus). In its place is now an OLED touch display. The buttons on it now change to suit the situation. You can adjust the brightness or volume, switch music tracks. Log into your browser and your favorite sites will appear on the touchbar. In the mail application - and there are buttons “Reply”, “Write” and so on.

The touchbar helps with typing, just like the iMessage assistant. It analyzes and shows you the words you are supposed to type next. Faster allows you to change the text color, make it bold, or write it in italics.

The new technology is good at photo processing. It takes care of all the navigation, with it you can flip and scale pictures, make them brighter, change contrast and exposure, and add effects.

Adobe and Microsoft are working closely with Apple to implement touchbar support in their Photoshop and MS Office. On the small display in the laptop you can see all the stages of work on your document or photo. You can click on the preview on a small screen and go to the corresponding stage of work on a large one.

Touch ID fingerprint scanner

On the right side of the touchbar in the MacBook Pro there is a Touch ID fingerprint scanner, combined with the power button. You can turn on devices without a password, using your fingerprint. The same thing applies to the “login/password” form on websites (there will be no need to endlessly fill in your data to enter the next site) or with payment using Apple Pay. Touch ID also helps you switch between different users using the same laptop with one click.

MacBook Pro will now be available in three versions: the regular 13-inch without touch screen above the keyboard (and 2 Thunderbolt ports), a more powerful 13-inch with a touchbar (and 4 Thunderbolt ports) and a 15-inch with a touchbar (and Thunderbolt). Prices in the States are $1499, $1799 and $2399. In Russia, new Macs are about $140-$500 more expensive.
