Digital television frequencies in Belarus. Installation and configuration of over-the-air antennas

In this article we will talk about Belarusian digital television. In our store you will always find all the components for organizing satellite and terrestrial television.
If a person has a TV, or has recently purchased one, then the question naturally arises - what to watch? In this article I want to scratch the surface of all possible alternatives. It is especially important to decide on the choice of television signal at the construction and renovation stage in order to connect all the necessary cables to the televisions. Digital television is presented in Belarus

1) Cable TV,

2) Terrestrial digital television,

4) Satellite television.

Now I will say banal things, but for cable television, your apartment or house should receive a cable from your provider!

If you live in a country house, or simply your house is not serviced by any organization, then you will not be able to enter into an agreement with any of the operators. As a rule, after concluding a contract and paying for services, a DVB-C format set-top box or module conditional access for the TV is issued for use, or you purchase it yourself, subscription fee depends on the provider and channel package. It is enough to bring one coaxial cable into the apartment, then you can use splitters.

Now about terrestrial digital television - for reception you need a decimeter antenna, it can, of course, be indoor - this is subject to a very good signal from the transmitting tower, but more often it is outdoor. If your TV has a built-in tuner marked DVB-T or DVB-T2, then you can connect the antenna directly to the TV; if your TV is equipped only with an analog tuner, then you need to additionally buy an external DVB-T\T2 unit, commonly known as a digital set-top box.

You can watch the social package of programs absolutely free - these are the channels Belarus 1, Belarus 2, Belarus 3, ONT, STV, NTV-Belarus, RTR-Belarus, Mir, Belarus 5 (DVB-T2). All other channels - contact Beltelecom or CosmosTV

IP TV (IP TV) is a service for accessing television channels via the Internet. To watch television using this technology you need a reliable and fast access to the network. By connecting your TV to the Internet via wi-fi or cable, you download the application, pay for services and watch. If your TV is old and does not support installing programs, then use an external set-top box for IP TV. The most famous IP TV option in Belarus is ZALA (Beltelecom).

Now a few words about satellite television. Oddly enough, to watch satellite TV you need a dish, no dish - no satellite TV! On the territory of our country you can receive a dozen satellites, but if you are interested in channels in Russian, and not in Turkish, Arabic, German, Ukrainian, then only the Eutelsat satellite at position 36 degrees is of interest. If your dish is tuned to this satellite, then you can buy a satellite tuner from the Tricolor operator, or a satellite tuner from the NTV-plus operator (depending on whose channels and prices you prefer). Perhaps your TV has a built-in satellite tuner (DVB-S2), which means you can install a module with a card in it instead of an external tuner, but you won’t save money, so I don’t recommend overpaying for a satellite tuner built into your TV.
To connect satellite TV, a personal cable must come from the dish to each viewing point, or at least 2 cables to the distribution panel.

Digital television broadcasting of the DVB-T standard is available to 95.07% of the population of Belarus.
By 2015, it is planned to install more than 40 television and radio broadcasting stations in Belarus. This will significantly reduce energy costs. Thus, in the case of a digital television transmitter, it is possible to organize the broadcast of eight television programs on one frequency assignment.

The main problem preventing the mass transition to digital television is the insufficient provision of receiving equipment to the population. To receive digital TV, you need a TV that supports the DVB-T format with the MPEG-4 or compression standard set-top box similar parameters that connect to a regular TV. Also, to receive TV channels you need an individual receiving antenna.

Belarus has a State Program for the introduction of digital television and radio broadcasting in Belarus until 2015. Belarus, as well as other countries, must complete the transition to digital television broadcasting by July 17, 2015. The government has ordered the development of a comprehensive plan for the transition to digital television broadcasting. By the middle of this year, this plan should be submitted to the Council of Ministers for consideration.

When switching from analogue to digital terrestrial broadcasting, higher quality and noise immunity of the digital television signal is achieved. In addition, the power consumption of a digital transmitter in terms of one TV program is reduced several times than when transmitting analogue television, which makes it possible to reduce overall energy costs for the same service area.

Advantages:

  • the use of a single digital coding standard, which in the future will displace the incompatible standard color TV systems - SECAM, PAL, NTSC;
  • a significant increase in image quality;
  • the ability to use sound in stereo mode;
  • the possibility of increasing the number of broadcast programs distributed on one frequency channel;
  • freeing up frequency resources without reducing the volume of TV broadcasting;
  • significant reduction in energy consumption of transmission equipment;
  • the ability to provide mobile reception of TV broadcasts and high-quality reception in large cities.

At the same time, stable and high-quality reception of TV programs is possible both on a stationary and indoor antenna (the digital TV signal is less subject to noise and various interferences).

Reception digital signal carried out on digital TV receivers, as well as on existing analogue TV receivers using digital set-top box(Set top box).

The introduction of digital TV broadcasting is significantly different from the introduction of other telecommunications innovations. The emergence of new technologies, as a rule, does not cancel old ones. Parallel implementation is taking place.

Quite often in the “TV tuner” column we can see the following designations: analog, DVB-C, DVB-T, DVB-T2, in some models the DVB-S/S2 standard is additionally found. What is it, what is it for and what does it affect? Let's figure it out.

A TV tuner is a type of radio receiver that is designed to receive television signals of various standards. All existing television broadcasting standards at the moment can be divided into 2 types: analog and digital. The abbreviation DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting) refers to digital.

Thus, the vast majority of modern TVs can receive and process both analog signals and various digital standards. The difference is determined by the ability to transmit a signal with a certain resolution and frame rate per second (fps).

Outdated television standards (analog)

With an analog signal everything is simple. In the 20th century, at the dawn of color television, several analogue television formats were used: NTSC, PAL and SECAM.

NTSC– became the first official standard for color television. This happened in the USA in 1953. NTSC was “tailored” to a screen resolution of 720x480 pixels and a frame rate of 30 frames per second. These parameters were chosen solely due to the fact that in the USA the frequency of industrial power grids is 60 Hz. This type of analog signal has become the basis for the countries of the North American continent and Japan.

SECAM appeared in 1956 in France. Here the characteristics were somewhat different. The signal provided a resolution of 720x576 and a frequency of 25 frames per second. The standard current frequency in European power grids is 50 Hz, which is why it had such parameters. SECAM was adopted as a standard for the Soviet Union, firstly because it complied with Soviet industrial standards, and secondly because France provided broadcasting equipment and favorable conditions for purchasing a license.

PAL originated as an alternative to the SECAM signal in 1967 in Germany. It was also “tailored” to a resolution of 720x576 and a frequency of 25 frames per second. All European countries except France and the Soviet Union adopted this standard as a base and used it until the end of the 20th century.

Modern TVs that are produced for the European region can process PAL and SECAM signals without problems, but if you bought a TV in the USA, then theoretically problems may arise and you will have to buy a special adapter.

However, the era of analogue broadcasting is almost a thing of the past, and there is hardly any need to worry about compatibility. It is enough to remember that the designation “analog” in Europe means support for PAL and SECAM signals.

As a rule, you can always understand from the markings of a TV what region it is intended for.

Digital television standards

Digital television began to replace analog television in the last years of the 20th century. As with analog standards, there are also regional divisions for digital standards.

  • ATSC– developed in the USA, used in North America
  • ISDB– developed in Japan, used in the Pacific region and South America
  • DTMB– a digital television standard that is used only in China
  • DMB– Korean digital television standard
  • DVB– developed in Europe, the most popular standard (used in 270 countries)

ATSC appeared in 1996 in the USA and was intended to replace analog NTSC. Actually, its peculiarity is that it is adapted to the broadcast frequency of 60 Hz. The standard supports satellite, cable and terrestrial broadcasting. ATSC's technical capabilities are slightly broader than those of other digital standards. In particular, it is capable of providing six-channel audio broadcasting (5.1)

ISDB– Japanese standard, which is adopted as the basic one in Japan and South America. Supports satellite, terrestrial, cable and satellite broadcasting for mobile devices.

DTMB– standard for terrestrial and mobile broadcasting, currently used only in China

DMB– an experimental standard available to residents of South Korea and Japan. In addition to satellite, cable and terrestrial broadcasting, it supports satellite mobile broadcasting. Multimedia content can be received directly from the satellite to a tablet or mobile phone.

DVB-T and DVBT-2 standards

The DVB digital broadcasting standard was originally created for satellite broadcasting, but later DVB versions appeared for cable, terrestrial and later for satellite mobile broadcasting. The following variants of the DVB standard currently exist.

  • DVB-T and DVB-T2– terrestrial group, the signal is received by a conventional antenna
  • DVB-C– broadcast standard for cable networks
  • DVB-S and DVB-S2– satellite broadcasting standards
  • DVB-H– satellite standard for mobile devices

In 2015, the final transition from on-air analogue broadcasting to digital took place in Russia and Belarus. The DVB-T2 standard was adopted as the basis. Most modern TV models support DVB-T and DVB-T2 standards, that is, they are capable of processing a signal that is received by a conventional antenna.

The second version of the standard is improved. The maximum possible capacity of the broadcast network has been expanded and other technical parameters have been improved. In Russia and Belarus, the second version of the standard was adopted solely due to the fact that the transition to it took place after the first had become obsolete. In Europe, Africa and Australia, for example, DVB-T (blue on the map) is still the basic digital broadcasting standard.

By the way, the signals are incompatible. That is, if we assume that your TV is only capable of processing a DVB-T signal, in Belarus you will not be able to receive terrestrial television with a regular antenna.

What to do if for some reason the tuner is not adapted to receive a DVB signal or the old TV does not support digital television at all? Buy a digital TV receiver with an antenna output (TV set-top box). It's inexpensive, so there shouldn't be any serious problems.

DVB-C standard

DVB-C is a European digital cable television standard. Supported by almost all models of modern TVs intended for sale in Europe. A tuner with this standard is able to correctly process the signal used by cable television providers.

It is true that it is worth remembering that some cable networks or separate channels may be encoded. When connecting cable TV, such nuances are always specified in the contract. For decoding, you may additionally need a special card that is inserted into the CAM module or digital TV receiver. You can get it from your cable TV operator.

DVB-S and DVB-S2 standards

How to set up satellite TV? The fact is that signal processing of satellite broadcasting standards DVB-S and DVB-S2 is NOT provided in all modern TVs. If you intend to watch satellite channels, pay attention to what parameters are indicated in the “Tuner” column. If group S standards are indicated, then to watch satellite television you only need a special card from the provider (in the CAM module) and a connection to satellite dish. Setting up satellite TV channels yourself will not be difficult. If the TV does not support group S standards, then for viewing satellite channels Additionally, you will need a receiver (special attachment).

DVB-S2 is an improved version of the standard, technically different from the outdated DVB-S. When connecting satellite television, pay attention to the signal standard of the satellite from which you are going to receive channels. Technical parameters are always specified in the documentation.

DVB-H standard

DVB-H is a European television standard for mobile devices. It is a logical continuation of the DVB-T standard, but is not used in stationary equipment. The tuner of a regular TV is unlikely to be adapted to receive such a signal, so look in technical specifications When choosing a TV, this standard is useless. To broadcast and receive the DVB-H signal, technologies are used that are designed to save battery power mobile device. In the CIS countries, in experimental mode, the DVB-H signal is broadcast only to some areas of Moscow and is not yet relevant for Belarus.

What is important to consider when choosing a TV?

The first thing that is important to pay attention to is the region for which the model is intended. As mentioned above, you can find out by looking at the model labeling. American TVs will definitely add problems when connecting. Models adapted for the Asian region (Japan, Korea) will very likely be configured to receive an ISDB signal rather than a DVB signal.

Such problems will definitely not arise if the TV model is certified for sale in the CIS countries. But if you are offered to buy confiscated contraband goods at a cheap price or, for example, your uncle decided to send a TV from America, carefully study the characteristics.

The second thing that is important to pay attention to is the tuner’s ability to process signals of the DVB-S and DVB-S2 standards. As already mentioned, not every TV model, even from serious brands like Samsung, LG or Sony, is capable of receiving a signal from this group of standards.

Well, what if they arise additional questions, you can always ask them to the specialists of our call center. They will help you choose best tv or they will tell you which digital TV receiver is best to purchase if problems arise. Phone numbers at the top of the page.
