The storage capacity in the MacBook Air 11 is not impressive in size, but it is characterized by high operating speed. Anyway, let's get down to business. I'll tell you the story about MB Air 11, as it is, without embellishment.

Design, construction

Before returning the Air to my colleagues (friends) at Apple, I carefully examined it from all sides. Inspected for damage and chips. Maybe some scratches? I’ll also tell you below about the accessories that I used, but basically the Air was lying around in the backpack as is, next to other metal and not so much objects. Let me remind you that the laptop case is made of aluminum, very neat and comfortable, everything is in its place - where it was. On the left is the input for the power supply with a magnet, and you don’t need to insert anything, it suctions itself, and the indicator on the plug lights up, signaling that the accessory is working. Nearby is a USB input. On the right is another USB and a Thunderbolt port. The laptop gets noticeably warm during long periods of use, especially if it is placed on the bed rather than on the table. There is no noise, the built-in speakers are more likely just for checking the sound, I would recommend using some kind of speakers with the Air. At home I use an Audioengine device, these are adapters that can transmit sound from a laptop to a home system over a long distance and from any program. Eat AirPort Express, but here sound transmission only works in iTunes; to work with other utilities you will need to install not the most convenient software. Of course, Audioengine takes up one USB connector, but I’m willing to put up with it because the connection is effective, it just works, and that’s all.

Let me remind you, if you didn’t know, MB Air is a very compact laptop, about the size of two iPads placed one on top of the other. But it makes much more sense than the iPad; you won’t be able to work on a tablet the same way, or you can, but you’ll have to try hard. Add a keyboard, select programs, and understand how to solve trivial tasks like transferring about a hundred photos to an employee for processing. Or how to process a video, and by processing nothing particularly complicated is meant, but with a tablet you will definitely get stuck.

Performance

Here it’s time to talk not only about what’s inside the Air, but also about my impressions of the laptop in general. For me, naturally, this is more of a typewriter, where Pages is always running, the main browser is not the built-in Safari, but Chrome, I like it much more, although the plugin responsible for flash is periodically disabled here, you need to reload the page to restore normal operation. Well, I also upload photos to FTP using the wonderful Captain FTP utility, I have never seen anything better, and on Windows too. Mail client It’s ideal here, the calendar too, let me remind you, this is an exclusively subjective opinion. Don't forget that iMessage for Mac is now available and you can download it. Perhaps the most difficult is video editing in iMovie, but even here the laptop worked fine.

Let me note once again that the tiny 11.6-inch display is not very well suited for long-term work, although after months of use I have already gotten used to it and look at laptops with a larger screen diagonal without sadness.

Memory - 64 or 128 GB SSD, you can install a 256 GB SSD if you really want to. For such a laptop it’s plenty, but if you have a lot of money, then feel free to install 256 GB and feel the positive vibrations.

Among other things, all this beauty can live offline for about five hours, these are the stated figures, but in reality it seems that the Air can work during daylight hours. After reviewing the Apple Thunderbolt Display monitor, I was asked more than once or twice how things are going with compatibility with older models. Let me remind you that after the article I bought a regular LED Cinema Display 27 and used MB Air paired with this device without any problems, connected it, waited a few seconds for the image to appear on the monitor, add a mouse and keyboard, you can start working.

Interestingly, in this scenario, using the MB Air 11 makes even more sense; this thin and light laptop fits into a very compact folder, but when connected to a monitor, you get a decent workstation. Naturally, we are not talking about serious processing of photos or videos, but you will easily cope with ordinary tasks.

The second accessory is the Bose AE2 headphones, the most inexpensive in the line, but I really like them - I accidentally and against my own will discovered that the cable there is removable and you can buy a version with a remote control and a microphone, it makes everything simple good headphones into a very good headset for Apple technology. I can only once again recommend it for purchase to everyone.

The third thing is a Safo case, made of felt and leather, a kind of folder, compact, convenient and stylish, even if it is very similar to the products of one little-known company. The felt, however, rolls up and settles wherever possible, but otherwise I liked the accessory.

I can also once again recommend to all those who care about protecting their device to look at the covers on the lid and bottom of the Air, for example, I really like Incase, perforated series. And it’s beautiful, and you don’t have to worry about scratches.

In retail, the laptop in question costs about forty thousand rubles, for example, an Asus Zenbook ultrabook will cost you 44,000 rubles, these same ultrabooks from Samsung are at least ten thousand cheaper, but... There are a lot of “buts”.

Firstly, this device is very fast, especially if you do not take into account the rather slow startup. That is, the laptop wakes up instantly, but it will take a few seconds before it begins to respond to touchpad or button presses.

Secondly, one cannot fail to note the comfortable keyboard and touchpad; the latter allows you to do without a mouse and not even think about connecting it. It is unlikely that ultrabooks can compete with the Air 11 in this regard.

Thirdly, the Air 11 with an i5 processor can be used for about five hours, and this is with Wi-Fi turned on, and it charges quite quickly, sometimes it seems to me that it only takes an hour and a half, or even less, to fully charge.

Fourthly, despite its apparent frivolity - what can you expect from a typewriter with such a small screen - the MacBook Air may well become the basis of your ecosystem, especially if you use an Apple monitor at work or at home. Moreover, the laptop is as productive as possible for such a compact device, yes, there is no talk of games (you can play some old toys without worries), but working with mail, documents, a browser and even iMovie - all this It works quickly here, it starts instantly.

Finally, the design, materials, and thoughtfulness of the operating system - all this makes the MacBook Air 11 a unique proposition among ultra-compact laptops, and no manufacturer can offer something similar for comparable money. Or rather, not so, ultrabooks can offer (let me remind you, “For those who are not in the know. Ultrabook: a beautiful, powerful, lightweight portable computer with low power consumption. All this + the spirit of Dell = XPS 13”), but this in practice, it turns out , a completely different topic.

So, if you need something small, functional, lively, capable of going without a power outlet for a long time, stable and not particularly expensive, then I can confidently recommend the MacBook Air 11. Probably, for many, this solution may become the first Mac, and I can only envy it if you start your acquaintance with Apple technology in this way. I will warn you in advance that you will never return back to the world of Windows and will remember it like a nightmare.
