The model will not surprise the inveterate gadget lover with its characteristics. It is made on the same platform as the smartphone, the company's flagship last year, but with some modifications. In other words, the filling is offered as follows: processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 8250 at 1 GHz, 576 MB of RAM, 8 megapixel camera with xenon flash and HD video recording, WVGA screen.

Appearance

Recently we had information in the news that HTC may soon stop using metal in the casings of its phones. It’s difficult to say how true this information is, but HTC Mozart can easily be classified as an “old-school” device. There is an almost completely monolithic shell, only at the bottom there is a small removable part.

The device itself is nice, looks like and. From the first it inherited general features and moderate dimensions, and with the second it is united by the idea of multi-colored inserts on the back.

Most of the model is made of aluminum. This durable frame is complemented by a pair of black soft-touch plastic inserts at the top and bottom of the back surface. Thanks to its moderate size, the device will be convenient for almost everyone; HTC Mozart fits perfectly in the hand. The dimensions of the device are: 119x60.2x11.9 mm, weight 130 g.

There are complaints about the assembly, that the inserts creak at the top and bottom, but out of the five samples tested, none of the models had such problems. There were both new devices and those that had been used for several months. The test model did not have any assembly defects.

The case is a little cool, it feels nice in your hand, all the emotions are the most positive. For that kind of money, few devices can offer similar tactile sensations. This should be considered a clear plus for the device. The downside was that the phone got quite warm during operation.

At the top there is a large cutout for the earpiece, covered with a fine mesh. It contains an LED that reports missed calls, lights up red when the battery is almost empty, the same during charging, and green when the battery is full. Report other events, e.g. e-mail or SMS, he doesn’t know how.

Below the screen there are three control touch buttons. The arrow takes you back one step, and holding this key opens the menu of running tasks. Central leads to main screen from any application. The last button brings up the search menu.

At the top end there is a 3.5 mm headphone jack. On the same side there is a screen lock button.

The microphone hole is visible at the bottom.

On the left is a long, thin volume key. A little lower there is a universal microUSB port. A charger or cable is connected to it.

On the right side there is a dedicated two-position key for taking photographs.

The back surface has an unusual relief shape, which is formed using a small depression. A pair of black inserts goes well with the gray color of the body; this set of shades looks nice.

In the upper left corner there is an 8-megapixel camera lens on a small podium. Next to him is a xenon flash. To the right is the speaker hole.

The lower part is removable. If you pull it towards you, the mount holding the battery opens. By opening the latch, you can remove the battery and insert the SIM card.

Screen

HTC Mozart is equipped with a 3.7-inch S-LCD display with a resolution of 480x800 pixels, 16 million colors are displayed here. The capacitive screen supports up to four simultaneous touches. The smartphone is equipped with an accelerometer, a proximity sensor and a brightness sensor. The screen is bright and performs well under the sun.

The Gorilla Glass coating protects the display, but scratches are possible. The screen behaves normally in the sun; the picture fades but remains readable.

As for the color rendition itself, the impressions here are very positive. The shades are close to natural and natural. For comparison, I’ll show the HTC Mozart screen (above) next to the SuperAMOLED (below).

Platform

HTC Mozart received a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8250 processor with a frequency of 1 GHz. The smartphone has 576 MB of RAM and 8 GB of internal memory. Of this, a little more than 6 GB is available for storing user data. If you wish, you can independently replace the microSD card installed in your phone with a more capacious one. Yes, here is a regular class 4 flash drive, only hidden inside the case. Of course, such tuning will void the factory warranty.

Interface

The lock screen can be called the most striking element of the phone shell. A background image from the device’s memory is assigned here; it can be not only an image offered by the manufacturer, but also any other one uploaded to the device by the user or taken using the camera. In order to activate the screen, you need to press the lock key. After touching, the display will light up for a short period of time. You can see time and date information on the screen. At the bottom of the event line, icons of new messages or calls will be displayed if they were left unattended by the user. This also includes data about future events recorded in the calendar. The number of events of each type will be indicated.

Information about network connections. If the player is working, then from here you can control the widget’s operation. Responsible for the process of playing music. This element will also help you change the sound profile mode. To get to the phone menu, you need to swipe up from the bottom of the lock picture. For those who want to protect the contents of their smartphone from prying eyes, a password request function is provided.

The decoration of the main screen is simple and even ascetic. Nowadays, the majority of smartphones offer a variety of widgets and all sorts of functions in order to make the most of your desktop space. The WP7 developers abandoned this idea. Instead, a new and unusual way of organizing the menu is proposed. The status line at the top contains information about wireless connections and time. Data about new events does not appear here. In this case, most often this period disappears, the battery charge level is not visible. You need to touch the top of the screen to bring up this menu.

Most of the space is occupied by large squares, which are responsible for access to certain sections. These are application shortcuts, the menu itself is located on the next tab. Getting into it is simple, just follow the directions of a single arrow, under which a gaping black hole opens. By swiping your finger from right to left, you can get to the main menu. Here, in alphabetical order, all the programs that are installed on the phone are listed. This includes both standard applications and those subsequently added by the device owner.

From here, any icon can be sent to the desktop. There they change places and are placed in the right order. You may notice that some elements occupy not one area, but two. These are large shortcuts that add some variety. Moreover, some of them are equipped with animation. For example, the gallery icon will show something like a slide presentation. Real-time weather indication is displayed. As information about new events becomes available, corresponding icons appear on the icons. This is the number of new SMS, emails or missed calls. The list of shortcuts scrolls up and down; it doesn’t move any other way. The same principle applies to the main menu. To make it easier to manage a large number of programs in the future, there is a search function that will save you from tedious scrolling through a long string of icons.

If you want to change the design, you can choose from a black or white background, as well as eleven design themes. “Theme” is a strong word, they do not transform the interface, they only change the color of the icons and some of the menu items.

The platform offers multitasking. You need to hold the return button, after which a menu of windows will open, among which running applications will be displayed. There you can switch between them. However, this only applies to built-in applications. Programs from third-party developers do not work so smoothly; the user is faced with a lack of real multitasking. This is one of the main problems today new platform.

Contacts

The list of names is organized according to the following principle. The phone book is divided into three sections. The first one shows all the names that are in the device's memory. The second one displays those that were used most often, these are the most popular contacts. The last column will bring together news from social networks. For example, Twitter or Facebook.

Contacts are displayed in a list that allows you to see the image assigned to the subscriber. The full first and last name cannot fit on one line. Personally, I don't like this option. Taking into account the fact that there is a bunch of free space, such an implementation of a functional element looks controversial. Above the list of names, about a quarter of the screen is taken up by a large section header. A small area on the side is occupied by the adjacent column. The phone book is divided into small groups, with a letter highlighted in bright color above each of them.

In the settings, you select the type of sorting of names and the option for displaying them. There are book filter settings. From here you can remove data from social networks if they interfere. By holding your finger on the line with the subscriber's name, this contact can be moved to the desktop, deleted or edited. When a new user is created, various data are assigned to him. Before this, you need to choose where the information will be saved: to your account Windows Live or another profile.

The new user receives a first name, last name, patronymic, place of work, nickname, title, picture. He is assigned several phone numbers different types: mobile, home, work, organization, pager, fax. At the same time, according to the creators of the platform, a person can only have one mobile phone. The issue is resolved by creating several contacts and merging them into one. But two home or work numbers. Three types of email are specified. Contact - additional fields. This is an address, website, birthday, note, anniversary, loved one, children, office location, position. You can set not only one of the files in the phone’s memory as a ringtone, but also any other one.

The search menu will help you find the right person. The phone allows you to create user groups. They will be highlighted separately in front of the general list of names. By adding users to each group, you can follow the lives of your friends, see their messages and pictures. Of course, you can write an email, SMS or call them from here.

Calls

To go to the dialing menu, you need to click on the icon. After this, a list of numbers opens. The telephone part is divided into four groups. This is the call log itself, dialing, phone book and search. The device cannot remember the partition that was last used. Thus, to dial a number, you will always need to perform an extra action related to moving from the call list to virtual keyboard.

During the dialogue, information about the duration of the conversation is displayed on the screen, and before that a picture will be displayed if it has been assigned to the contact.

The virtual keyboard displays Latin characters, but they will not help when dialing a number. Functions automatic selection There are no suitable numbers here. The only assistant in this matter is the search option. Alternatively, you can later install a more functional application in order to expand the functionality of this important component.

The call list is organized very simply. Here, in a long string of numbers, is the entire call history. It doesn't matter whether the numbers were the same or not. The phone cannot combine calls of the same type. The caller's name or number will be displayed if the data has not been saved in the phone memory. In order to highlight the type of call (incoming or outgoing), multi-colored backlighting is used, which highlights the information under the number. By selecting a number from the list, you can see the call history. The number is saved from the log to the phone book either for an existing user, or a new one is created.

Messages

Correspondence is formed in two sections. The first consists of correspondence in the form of SMS and MMS. The other one is from Facebook contacts. Thus, you can correspond from here with users of the virtual community. Messages are displayed in a column. The sender's name or number is indicated here in large font. The text of the latest message is displayed in small letters at the bottom. The day on which the message was received is indicated on the right. If you hold your finger on a line, a menu will open, which will delete the entire dialogue. If desired, single SMS messages are deleted in the correspondence between users. Any message from the dialogue can be forwarded. For clarity, the text of unread messages is highlighted in bright color, based on the design theme.

If you open the correspondence window, messages appear that are divided into blocks. At the same time, incoming and sent SMS differ from each other in shades, which makes it easier to read. In addition, the date and time the message was received is noted here. The number or name of the person with whom you are communicating is displayed above the message. Clicking on this line opens a menu that allows you to make a call or see more detailed information about the subscriber.

When typing a message, you need to select the sender. You can simply type the numbers on the line at the top of the screen or select an existing contact. Previously used numbers cannot be used. The text entry field itself is located below; as new words are added, this space expands. When the number of characters exceeds sixty, the number of characters will be displayed below. This will help take into account the volume of a new SMS; sending combined, large messages is supported. A text message automatically turns into a multimedia message if you add a picture to it. In this case, only a snapshot from the camera or an image from the gallery is inserted. It will not be possible to convey any other information.

The settings in this section allow you to disable Facebook chat and activate a delivery report, which will be sent as a separate message. It’s inconvenient that the phone can’t save drafts in memory. The lack of templates is less critical, but this fact is worth mentioning.

Email

The device offers a mailbox setup wizard. In this case it will be postal Windows service Live, Outlook, Yahoo Mail or Google. You will have to configure other services manually; Yandex or Mail.ru are not provided for automatic settings here.

Each account is assigned a name, and the mailbox check interval is configured: push mode, every 15, 30 or 60 minutes. You can also check your email manually. The time period for loading correspondence is set: 3, 7, 14 or 30 days or all the time. However, you cannot set a limit on downloading emails. The signature text that will be displayed on the sent letter is included. Mailbox offers several category headings: all, unread, due, important. The interface resembles a message menu. The sender's name is highlighted in large font, with the contents of the letter below in neat text. To the right is the time or date of receipt. New letters are highlighted in bright colors.

By holding your finger on a line with a message, you can delete it, mark it as read, move it to another folder, or assign a mark. Incoming emails with attachments will display a paperclip icon to help you understand that something has been added to the message. There is enough space on the screen for information about five letters. Below you can see four icons. The first allows you to create a new letter, the second is responsible for selecting several objects, the other allows you to check your mail. The latter opens a search menu within the correspondence archive.

When you open a received letter, you can see information about the sender, time and date of receipt, as well as content. Using multi-touch, you can easily scale text to a convenient size. However, text cannot adapt to the boundaries of the screen. The type of attachments is shown, the device allows you to download and view “office” type files, but you cannot see where the document was downloaded. For clarity, undownloaded attachments are displayed as a paperclip icon. Those that have already downloaded receive a different icon, corresponding to their usual symbol on the computer - icon Word file known to any user.

Entering text

You can choose from portrait or landscape mode. In both cases, about half of the screen is allocated for the keyboard. A separate key is available to change the input language. Another special button stores a variety of emoticons in memory. They are in the form of symbols, and not the usual emoticons, which will require some knowledge in order to choose when sending desired type. Added sound when typing; it can be turned off. Select the desired language layouts from the menu. By holding your finger on a letter key, you can see a menu with additional symbols. For example, in the Russian keyboard, Ъ is called through ь, and Ъ through E.

Implemented copying and pasting text. A cursor works on a similar principle, helping to correct typos. The built-in auto-word substitution works very well, it has a wide vocabulary, I liked it. So far, Swype is not available for WP7, so you have to be content with this option. You can add new words to your vocabulary, increasing your phone's memory.

In terms of ease of input and speed of typing, there are no complaints about the device. It’s easy to get used to, although there have been some typos.

Calendar

The device offers a choice of several ways to display information. This is a day scheduled by the hour, a list of planned events, or tasks displayed in a separate column. In addition, all data can be displayed in the form of a regular monthly plan. In this case, you will notice that in some squares something will be written. However, you can only see scheduled events if you go to the section with this data, click on the date and open a new menu. And this despite the fact that there is a lot of free space “walking” below, it could be used more wisely. The device allows you to simultaneously use several calendars, each of them is highlighted in a different color. In the settings you can change it by selecting one of the possible options.

When creating a new event, several fields are filled in. They can be: topic, place, selected calendar, time, duration. Additionally, a reminder is set that is triggered at the start of the event, 5, 10, 15, 30, 60 minutes, 18 hours, one day, one week in advance. A daily repeat is turned on, on every weekday, on every day of the week that coincides with the day the event was created, on every date that coincides with the date the event was created. Participants of the event are added and will receive notifications about it by email. Notes are also created for the new entry.

Browser

HTML5 support borders on the lack of Adobe Flash; the phone cannot display streaming video on websites, you cannot watch YouTube videos through it. However, you can see animated advertisements on various resources. The browser allows you to keep up to six windows open at the same time. The loading speed of resources is high, and the operation of the application itself is also pleasing. It is fast, scrolling through even large sites occurs without delay. Unfortunately, the browser does not know how to adapt a scaled font to the screen borders. You have to move around the page to see the hidden text.

The address bar is located at the bottom, right under your fingers, which is very convenient. There is an icon for reloading pages on the left, and an additional menu opens on the right. This includes your browsing history and bookmarks. The necessary resources can be added directly to the desktop. In the application settings, saving cookies is disabled and the viewing mode is selected. This item allows you to activate the mobile or full version. The application works in landscape or portrait mode, the set of capabilities is the same. The search for the required words on the page works.

Separately, I would like to highlight the operation of the device with a computer. Microsoft suggests installing special application, which will combine a music and video player, as well as storage of photos and pictures. I will not describe the installation process. Let me just say that the program works very quickly. Of course, many will be disappointed by the need to transfer data exclusively through this application. Associations immediately emerge with Apple iTunes. However, there are a number of serious differences. Firstly, the Zune is not so demanding on system resources. Only a high-speed SSD drive could make iTunes work quickly under Windows 7. Of course, the Zune installed on it has excellent speed. But even installation on an ordinary HDD does not subsequently cause irritation when using the program, it does not slow down, it works quickly and is complemented by beautiful effects. It is possible to transfer data via Wi-Fi, but simply copying a 2-hour movie takes 3-4 hours, which is a very long time. For example, copying it using a USB cable takes about 5 minutes. The phone has inexpensive class 4 memory.

By default, the phone cannot act as a removable storage device, but there is already an application that will give the device such a function when connected to a computer.

Music

The phone supports .m4a, m4b, .mp3, .wma formats. The section with music and video is combined into a common group. This also includes podcasts and radio. Another tab shows history. Here you can look at songs that you have listened to before or at films. The last list will show the new data that has been added to the phone. In each of the categories, except the first, file covers are shown, it all looks very nice.

The Music section will offer a list of files, which are ordered by name depending on the selected criterion. The following options are offered: artists, albums, compositions, playlists, genres. If you click on one of the letters, you can use the quick search function among the data.

When a song is played, the file's cover art appears on the screen. At the top there are three standard player control keys. Below is information about the artist, album and track title. Under the song name, the names of the next two songs are indicated in small print. It also provides information about the playing time and total duration of the song. However, there is no rewind function using the scroll bar, it does not work. To do this, you will need to hold down the Forward or Backward key to move to the desired area.

The repeat mode is turned on for all songs or just one. There is a mixed playback mode. You can also mark your favorite composition separately. If you click on the volume control button, a small menu will open, which will display information about the track and buttons for moving between songs. It is also available when the screen is locked, which is convenient. In the menu you can see a separate application that offers to improve the sound. There is a Dolby Mobile effect, SRS enhancement and equalizer settings. Among the dozen parameters offered, there are no manual settings.

In terms of sound, the phone turned out to be very pleasant. I can't tell what he's playing better devices on Symbian^3 like or , not to mention Apple iPhone. However, the smartphone will please you with a well-detailed mid-frequency range; there are good low frequencies, but a boost in bass would not hurt. However, this may also depend on the headphones used. In general, the device can be noticed by a separate player, if you are not particularly picky.

Radio

The receiver is ascetic; only a line is displayed here where a scale with numbers is displayed. Not only manual search works, but also automatic search. The desired stations are stored in the device memory. Some data is missing here, for example, RDS information is not displayed. The design is very simple: white numbers on a black background and nothing else.

Video

The player is extremely simple and ascetic. A list of files in the phone's memory is displayed here; by selecting the one you need, it will open in full screen, although black bars at the top and bottom are possible. The screen displays the duration of the video and the time since the start of its playback. There are three player control keys, as well as a scroll bar that helps you quickly move through the movie. Declared formats: 3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .m4v, .mbr, .wmv. There is no DivX or XviD support here. However, when you copy a movie to your device via Zune, the app will automatically convert the file to the desired format. Of course it will take time.

Camera

The smartphone offers an 8-megapixel camera with autofocus and xenon flash. Shooting is launched not only from the menu, but also using a dedicated button on the side. You need to press it and hold your finger for five seconds, after which you can take a photo. The button is two-position, comfortable. It is impossible to shoot by touching the display with your finger; in this way you can only set a point for focusing. It will not be possible to select an area so that the phone focuses on it and not on the central zone. An excellent opportunity is to start shooting in locked mode, this allows you not to waste extra time, but to immediately start taking photographs.

The screen acts as a viewfinder. On the right is a button for switching between photo and video shooting modes. Below is the digital zoom key. The last button is responsible for the settings menu. On the left you can see a small part of the previously taken frame. From here you can go directly to the gallery if you click on this picture.

Camera settings:

Reset settings.

Flash: on, auto, on.

Scenes: auto, portrait, landscape, sports, beach, backlight, candle light, macro.

Effect: shades of gray, negative, sepia, solarium.

Resolution: 8M (3264x2448), 5M (2592x1944), 3M (2048x1536), 2M (1600x1200), 1M (1280x960), 0.3M (640x480 pixels).

Metering: spot, integral, central.

Flicker control: auto, 50 Hz, 60 Hz.

The phone manages to take fairly good macro photos and performs well in low-light conditions. However, outdoors, in normal lighting, the pictures are of poor quality. More precisely, this is a normal level for HTC products; there are no significant differences from other company smartphones.

Gallery

Camera shots and other images are included in the general section. It's called Photos and consists of several categories: favorites, new, programs. Pictures are sorted by albums, dates and people. Photos from Facebook appear here if you add your account to your smartphone.

Viewing data is simple and convenient. The screen displays a 2x3 or 4x5 matrix of folders or the icons they contain, respectively. You can change the image scale with a multi-touch or double click. Any image can be set as lock screen wallpaper, sent via MMS, email, posted to Facebook or Twitter, or uploaded to SkyDrive. The image is also added to the favorites list and opened using an editing program.

The unnecessary file is deleted from here, while batch selection of several objects is impossible; each of them will have to be erased in turn. The facial recognition feature allows you to tag people in your photos. After this, the photos can be uploaded to Facebook.

Watch

Several alarms are stored in memory. Each of them is given a signal time and a repeat mode by day of the week. You can choose from melodies from the device's memory. In addition, you can assign a name to the alarm clock.

The calculator offers all the necessary functions to carry out calculations. If you turn the device on its side, an additional settings menu will open.

There is a converter for various units.

The weather forecast will show a summary for different cities.

The image editor can add effects to pictures.

Office functions

The section includes applications that work with Word, Excel, Power Point and One Note. Accordingly, these are programs for text documents, tables, presentations and notes. The device allows you not only to view data on the screen, but to create new files of these types or edit existing ones. There are quite a lot of settings, it is unlikely that anyone will manually create a large presentation, but make adjustments to Text Document it will be convenient. But it is worth considering that the Word 97-2003 format cannot be edited. These steps only apply to newer versions. It all comes down to the fact that file sharing is difficult here. The document can be sent by email, uploaded to SkyDrive or to Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010.

Search

The dedicated key is responsible for the Bing search engine. It opens when you click on this button and will search for data based on the words entered. You cannot assign another system, for example Google or Yandex. In this case, the data found is divided into two categories: Internet and images. Accordingly, the first section offers text content, and the second graphic.

Navigation

Bing Maps currently performs poorly. Here it is worth criticizing both the inaccurate positioning and the lack of any capabilities. For example, you can’t even get directions. However, there is no localization; street names are indicated in Latin letters.

Marketplace

As the name suggests, this menu serves as a source for finding new programs. You will need a Windows Live account to make purchases. It’s easy to get it, then you need to add your data bank card to purchase software. If you do not add it, you will only be able to install free applications, which is logical. The menu is divided into groups. The first consists of programs and games. Then they go separately. The latter includes some application. On home page The number of available software updates, if any, is displayed. By selecting a section, you can see the offered software, divided into different categories for ease of searching. However, this is in theory. In practice, when I type “angry birds” into the search, I end up getting not only those same birds in the results window, but also other programs that have nothing to do with them.

Each application is provided with screenshots and an icon picture. The price is indicated, and it is given in the currency of the state whose information is indicated in the account. For example, I have English Account Live, the price will be given in pounds. When I started using Russian accounts, the price tag became in ruble equivalent. The program's rating, reviews, and its size are displayed. If you wish, you can download the demo version and try it. Before you give money for full application.

Games

For those who like to game on their phone, the Xbox LIVE section will be of interest. It duplicates the capabilities of the Marketplace by offering a variety of entertainment apps. The user receives a virtual character who earns new achievements over time.

Connections

The smartphone supports GSM 850/900/1800/1900 and WCDMA 900/2100 frequencies, provides reception speeds of up to 7.2 Mbit/s and transmission speeds of 2 Mbit/s. Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n works well, reception is reliable, network passwords are saved. In this case, locking the screen causes disconnection from Wi-Fi networks. Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR allows you to listen to music on wireless headphones. Transferring data to other devices is not possible; the phone does not allow file transfer.

Profiles

The device offers a single sound profile. It is not possible to configure multiple alert options. At the same time, a significant drawback can be considered the combination of sound in applications and alert signals. For example, by muting the music in the player, it automatically decreases in volume for calls, SMS notifications, and alarms. It is difficult to understand what caused this logic, but in practice this option is inconvenient. You can set your own ringtones via Zune; the principle here is somewhat similar to creating a ringtone in iTunes.

Battery

HTC Mozart is equipped with a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 1300 mAh. According to official data, the phone operates up to 360/435 hours in GSM/WCDMA standby mode, or up to 405/330 minutes in talk mode. As for the actual lifetime indicators on a single charge, the situation is as follows. When using the device with little activity, it can be charged once every 1.5-2 days. If you listen to music for about two hours, talk for 30 minutes, take about 15 pictures, and also use social services and receive mail at background, then the phone will die during daylight hours. That is, by evening the phone may not survive. In general, in terms of autonomy, the model is very similar to Android devices. Overall, there are no significant differences here from last year. HTC Desire, which has the same hardware component.

The battery saving option will extend the life of the phone; it will disable some functions. Charging from a computer's USB connector is supported. The total charging time for the phone is just over an hour. In continuous video playback mode, the phone worked for 3 hours 20 minutes at maximum screen brightness with Wi-Fi turned on. This is not much, but the device became very hot.

Conclusion

The speaker here is good and loud, with a decent amount of headroom. Skip incoming call difficult, the device rings loudly. The vibration alert is average in strength.

Russia became the first country in Europe to receive the most latest version software The HTC 7 Mozart itself is far from new; it has been sold in other countries for quite a long time. A price tag of 12,990 rubles for a well-assembled smartphone with good screen, a monolithic aluminum body, an autofocus camera and a new platform does not seem so tall. In any case, if you glance through the windows, you won’t be able to find anything similar for that kind of money. In addition, MTS users also receive a year of free use. mobile Internet, which amounts to about 3,000 rubles in monetary terms. In general terms, it turns out to be a nice “dialer” made from high-quality materials, a fast interface and basic set multimedia functions.

The platform itself today works very stable and fast. But there's a lack of additional apps here, with many of the standard features offering modest capabilities. There is no point in criticizing the new mobile OS, since any system takes several years to acquire applications and the capabilities of a standard shell. The question is whether there are enough people willing to buy such devices. After all, HTC 7 Mozart is the most inexpensive way to the world of a new platform. Other devices promise to be much more expensive: for example, HTC Radar costs about 19,000 rubles.

This article will be devoted to the NTS smartphone.

Briefly about the model

In 2010, the HTC 7 Mozart phone went on sale. It belongs to the budget segment. The model is a functional smartphone running on the platform Windows Phone. It is ideal for the role of a work phone, if you do not have high performance requirements.

At the beginning of sales, the model immediately gained popularity, as it has compact dimensions and a clear interface. It is impossible to say that she is flawless. However, almost all models have both strengths and weaknesses.

Design

The external design of the HTC 7 Mozart (T8698) cannot be called standard. However, some design elements have already been used in other models of this manufacturer. Back panel consists of three covers. Different colors were used to decorate them.

The design of the phone is a monoblock. Plastic and aluminum were used to make the case. This allows the buyer to be confident in high quality and reliability. Although users have encountered comments regarding the assembly and squeaks, such cases are rare.

The shape of the phone is rectangular, the side edges are rounded. This solution somewhat softens the strict lines of the external design. The front panel has touch keys, a screen and a compartment for the earpiece. The latter is quite long, covered with a silver mesh. Buyers believe that the screen could have been made much larger without changing the size of the device itself. The panel with the control keys is wide, and if the developers had made it smaller, the diagonal would have increased by several inches.

The speaker has an LED indicator that flashes when calls are missed. It is also interconnected with the battery. If you put the phone on charge, the light will glow red, provided the battery is “empty”. When the battery is full, the indicator will turn green.

On the top left side there is a headphone jack. It is standard - 3.5 mm. And on the right is the on/off button, which also performs the locking function. Not all owners like this arrangement. Many people find that placing this button on the sidebar is much more convenient. At the bottom there is only a hole for a microphone.

The left side of the device is equipped with a volume key. It is very long and quite narrow. On the same side, only at the bottom, there is a connector for charger and cable, type - microUSB. The camera button is located on the right side. It has a metallized coating.

The back panel has a camera lens and a flash. Next to them is a speaker. There is also an inscription with the name operating system. The removable cover is located at the bottom. This is what holds the battery. To remove it, just open the bottom strip at the end.

Features of size and weight

When purchasing a smartphone, buyers pay attention to the dimensions of the device. Not every person is ready to switch to large phones. Why? First of all, it’s awkward to hold when talking, and you’ll have to use two hands when surfing or scrolling. The HTC 7 Mozart (T8698) model has compact dimensions. This type of phone is mainly chosen by those people who have used small push-button phones.

The length of the case is almost 120 mm, and the width is 60 mm. As for the thickness, then this device refers to quite thick, since this figure is 12 mm. When compared with other models, their thickness does not exceed 7-8 mm. Of course, this affects the weight of the device. This smartphone with the battery installed weighs 130 g.

After studying the reviews of the owners, we can conclude that the phone is convenient to use. When talking, it is comfortable to hold it only with your shoulder. Thanks to its compact size, you can carry the device in your shirt or trouser pocket without fear of losing it. Scrolling through the menu, dialing a subscriber's number or typing - these manipulations are easy to do with one hand.

HTC Mozart 7: device characteristics

Many buyers don't really want to delve into complex technical terms. It is also worth noting that not every person is able to understand them. For this reason, below are the main characteristics that will help you really evaluate this model.

Screen

When writing a description of the HTC Mozart 7, the screen characteristics are an important detail. You should not expect large sizes; the diagonal is only 3.7 inches. This parameter has caused mixed reviews, since there are budget phones on sale with a screen of 4.5 inches and above, and the difference in price is insignificant.

So let's get down to the specifications. Display type - SLCD, touch, capacitive. The pixel size is 480×800 pixels. The screen displays 16 million colors. An accelerometer, automatic brightness control and a proximity sensor are included in the HTC 7 Mozart. The touchscreen quickly responds to finger touches and supports up to four simultaneous touches, but you won’t be able to operate the phone with gloves on. Color rendition is rich and contrast is good. In bright sun it does not fade, but fades significantly. The text, although difficult, can be read. Users claim that the picture on the screen is displayed realistically.

The manufacturer took care of protecting the display by installing Gorilla Glass. However, owners have noticed that when using the phone without a case, shallow scratches form over time.

This model is no different though high performance, but is quite suitable as a working device. On the screen you can view photos, read e-books, surf and play low-capacity games.

Camera

Is it possible to take high-quality pictures using HTC 7 Mozart (T8698)? Camera characteristics play an important role in this matter. It's hard to imagine a modern smartphone without a photo function. Of course, it is also in the described device. We can say that the camera in the T8698 is a strong point.

The “state employee” uses an 8-megapixel matrix. Some may say that there are already devices on sale with a camera of 16 megapixels and higher, but in the right hands the pictures taken by this phone will be quite high quality. The maximum photo size is 3264×2448 pix. If necessary, the user can change the resolution to 5 MP, 3 MP, 2 MP, 1 MP and 0.3 MP. Auto focusing is available. In poor lighting conditions, it is recommended to use a xenon flash. It shines quite brightly, so it can be used as a flashlight.

In order to activate the camera, you need to use the button on the body or go through the menu. Autonomous two-position key. To turn on the viewfinder, simply press the button and hold it for 5 seconds. Tapping the screen allows you to adjust the focus. There are no touch keys for shooting. In order to take a photo, you will need to use the button. However, there are also advantages to this - the camera is activated when the screen is locked.

The developers have provided a wide range of settings. The menu has modes “portrait”, “landscape”, “macro”, “beach” and others. Flash settings are also customizable. The user can select one of three options - "auto", "on" and "off". The developers also provide effects - “solarium”, “shades of gray”, “sepia” and “negative”.

Video shooting mode occurs at a speed of 24 frames per second. The maximum acceptable quality is 720 p. Recording is done with a resolution of 1280×720 pix. According to users, the videos are of insufficient quality.

The HTC 7 Mozart model does not have a front camera. This drawback is significant for those who like to take selfies and make video calls. It is extremely inconvenient to use main optics for these purposes. This is evidenced by numerous reviews from owners about this phone.

Memory and processor

The HTC 7 Mozart (T8698) is powered by a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8250 processor. It operates at 1 GHz. Users have no complaints about performance. All branded applications launch quickly, work without glitches, and “light” games do not freeze.

The model has 576 MB of RAM. As for the built-in one, it is only 8 GB. About 2 GB are occupied by operating system files. The user, in fact, is left with only 6 GB. According to buyers, such indicators for a smartphone are extremely low. However, complete with a dual-core processor, 1 GHz memory is quite enough.

The manufacturer did not initially position this model as a gaming device. And if we take into account that it belongs to the budget segment, then such indicators are quite understandable. Users claim that, as a rule, there are no problems with weak applications running.

Memory card

In the HTC 7 Mozart, programs, or rather most of them, are installed on the memory card. Thanks to this, you can download games, music, pictures and applications. This model supports microSD memory cards up to 64 GB. However, according to the owners, it is not worth loading it completely with information, as this can lead to serious problems with the system. To ensure that problems and failures do not occur, it is recommended to use no more than 62 GB. In any case, if we consider that the HTC 7 Mozart belongs to the budget class, then such opportunities will delight every potential buyer.

It is important to note that using smaller memory cards is acceptable, but larger ones are not. 64 GB is the maximum size of removable media. Flash drives with more memory mobile device will not “see”.

operating system

What operating system is installed on this HTC device? Windows Phone 7. Mozart (T8698) is a model that has largely earned its popularity thanks to its famous platform. There are many Windows Phones on sale. This operating system is different simple interface and compatibility with a wide range of programs. What else does the user need?

The device has factory firmware version 7.5 installed. According to many owners, it works great. All native applications launch quickly. The user is encouraged to use multitasking. Concerning third party applications, then some difficulties may arise during their operation. At the time of this model's release, users this problem called the biggest drawback of HTC Mozart 7. The Windows Phone 8.1 firmware is considered more advanced in this regard. Therefore, phone owners often prefer to switch to it. To do this, it is recommended to contact service center. However, some users do it themselves. But it is important to understand that with such an installation there is a high probability of damaging the phone. Of course, firmware will void the terms of the warranty. Therefore, it is worth considering whether it is necessary to take risks.

Battery

The manufacturer of the HTC 7 Mozart phone used a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 1300 mAh. According to official data, the device will operate in standby mode for 360 hours (GSM network) and 450 hours (WCDMA). The battery charge will last approximately 6 hours of continuous talk (2G - 6.75 hours, 3G - 5.5 hours). However, these are the figures declared by the manufacturer. How is the situation in reality? Owner reviews will help answer this question.

  • With little activity, the battery will be discharged in 1.5-2 days.
  • With an average load (listening to music for no more than 2 hours, receiving calls and talking on the phone for about 30 minutes, taking several pictures, notifications in the background and social services), the battery is unlikely to “survive” until the evening. As a rule, the charge will last for a maximum of 12 hours.
  • Video playback with Wi-Fi turned on and at maximum brightness will last 3 hours 20 minutes. After this, the phone will be completely discharged.

A small reassurance for users was a special option that serves to save battery. When activated, the device disables some applications, thereby extending the duration battery life.

Competitors

HTC 7 Mozart competes with two models from fairly well-known manufacturers. The first is the Korean smartphone Samsung Galaxy W GT-I8150. It runs on the Android operating system version 2.3. The diagonal of these models is the same - 3.7 inches. The resolution is no different - 800×480 pix. Processor in Samsung is better, its frequency is 1.4 GHz, while HTC's is only 1 GHz. RAM is almost the same. It differs only by 60 MB in favor of the latter. HTC's built-in storage is 4 GB larger. The camera resolution is the same - 5 megapixels. HTC has a larger case size. It is almost 4 mm longer. Samsung weighs 20g less.

The second model that competes with the described smartphone is the LG P970 Optimus. Externally, both devices are a little similar, but the HTC looks more rounded. The differences can be found by looking at the display characteristics. With the same resolution, the LG screen diagonal is 0.5 inches larger. It runs on the Android platform version 2.2. Similarities can be seen in the characteristics of the processor and camera. But the amount of built-in memory in HTC is larger by as much as 6 GB. There are also many differences in dimensions. Firstly, the thickness of the LG device is almost 3 mm smaller and is only 9.2 mm. Secondly, the HTC weighs 21 g more. Thirdly, the length is 3 mm less and the width is 4 mm less than the LG P970 Optimus.

The cost of all three models is approximately the same. In 2010-2011 their price ranged from 12,000 to 15,000 rubles.

They tried to improve this mastodon by offering shells that would increase its convenience (remember, for example, the legendary HTC Touch) - but it was clear to everyone that the days of Windows Mobile were numbered.

HTC Mozart

However, even today some manufacturers release something on WM 6.5 and somehow try to compete with modern systems - a move that defies logical explanation. Especially today, when there is already a ready-made Windows Phone 7.

Is the game worth the candle?

To understand this, let's first compare the general user ideology of Windows Phone 7.5 (which is installed in) with Android and iOS. In the two most popular mobile systems the ideology is basically the same: several mobile desktops with a number of permanent shortcuts and widgets and shortcuts to applications added there.

HTC Mozart vertical scrolling interface

WP7 used a different system. The desktop is presented in it in the form of a scrollable vertical column of squares (the so-called “hubs”), where each of them can carry one of many functions. It can be either a shortcut to a specific application, or a link to a person from your contact list, to a photo, to a web page or service. In general, the customization of the desktop has been done as needed, but within certain limits. The squares can be doubled, and for some pre-installed applications (for example, photo galleries) this is an excellent solution.

One of the most convenient advantages of such a system is that you can send a separate page to your desktop as a square. If you like, say, reading Bashorg in the morning, then you can, without launching the browser and without digging up a journal entry, go directly to the last page you read by clicking on its shortcut on the desktop. This desktop is definitely convenient, but, on the other hand, it will not be appreciated by those who like to decorate their desktop with various pictures, Tamagotchis, switches and other little things. Microsoft's desktop has finally turned into a good business tool, but not the most beautiful, but rather strict and ascetic.

The WP7 shell looks unusual on an HTC smartphone

The list of applications is located on the right, which can be accessed by swiping from right to left across the desktop. Applications are arranged from top to bottom in alphabetical order, regardless of whether they are pre-installed or added by the user. To the left of the application name is its miniature icon, and programs with names in Russian come first in this list. Again, this differs from the ideology of Android and iOS, when application squares are piled up on several screens because they don’t fit on one. For a convenient working Microsoft desk gets a well-deserved A.

The general style of switching apps between each other is like flipping pages, and it all happens almost instantly. The speed of work did not drop or increase after switching between one application or another, but it is known that there is no real multitasking in WP7 - one of the main disadvantages of the operating system. In general, this can explain everything.

By the way, the absence Flash support, which was written about last year, turned out to be untrue - there is not only support for it, but even a number of applications for watching YouTube. In addition, there is support for various accounts of a mass of social networks and services: starting from Windows Live (in which you will definitely have to register - like in Gmail when using Android), Outlook, Yahoo, and ending with Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. There is no support for Skype as such - which is strange, given its new residence in Redmond - but you can install the well-known IM+ application and access Skype text messages through it (and not only Skype - but, for example, the VKontakte network) .

A Internet browser The Explorer was a bit of a disappointment. On the one hand, you can open more tabs in it than in the default browser in Android (six versus four), on the other hand, we see crude scaling that does not automatically adjust to the screen size - only if you turn the phone upside down.

Multimedia environment HTC Mozart

Functional

Outwardly, he looks great, and hardly anyone can argue with that. The body is made of a single piece of aluminum, and if you look at it from the back, you will see two neat curved plastic panels at the top and bottom - this is necessary for the antennas, so as not to interfere with the reception and transmission of signals. The solution makes the smartphone somewhat similar to, and to, and even to - such eclecticism actually looks very organic, especially since on all these devices the panel joints look different.

The front panel shows the world a touch capacitive screen with a diagonal of 3.7 inches and a resolution of 480x800 dpi. The screen has multi-touch and auto-rotate, which, by the way, works very quickly.

The HTC Mozart smartphone does not set records for “thinness”, but it fully meets modern needs

Below the screen there are three buttons - “Back”, “Start” with the Windows logo and “Search”, which in any situation will invariably lead to the Bing search engine. The side ends are made slightly beveled, and this is a noticeable disadvantage - when blindly switching the volume using the swing on the left side, the finger constantly tries to slide somewhere into infinity. Although the swing is made quite wide. On the bottom right side there is a camera power/shooting button, and this button is made more convenient than the volume rocker.

At the bottom there are two holes that can be mistaken for two microphones (for example, one is for talking and the second is for subtracting noise), but in fact there is only one microphone, and the second hole is for a lanyard that is attached inside the case when the bottom plastic door is opened. covers. At the top, traditionally for HTC devices, there is a power button and a 3.5mm mini-Jack headphone jack. On the back panel at the top we see a slightly protruding camera, next to it there is a large oblong flash, the height of which is not inferior to the diameter of the lens, and even to the right you can find a rather loud speaker.

Sound level adjustment is carried out using hardware buttons

Inside, the Qualcomm QSD8250 gigahertz processor with ARMv7 architecture lives comfortably. Random access memory there is 576 MB (plus 512 MB ROM), which is adjacent to 8 GB of internal memory (of which 7.20 GB is initially available to the user). Device dimensions – 119x60.2x11.9 mm, weight – 130 grams. In your hand it feels like a bar of soap due to its roundness.

At the presentation, one of the invited journalists noted that it is functionally no different from . This is not entirely true (or rather, not at all true). The devices are indeed very similar, and outwardly they can be mistaken for one another - but if you look closely, details begin to appear. For example, it has more rounded corners, the touch buttons are not the same, the camera is better (and the flash too), and the tactile sensations are completely different. And the new product works much faster than its predecessor.

But to tell the truth, specifications This phone was determined by the strict position of Microsoft itself: the processor must have a frequency of at least 1 GHz, memory - at least 8 GB, camera at least 5 MP, and, I must say, it more than meets these characteristics.

Absence front camera does not allow video calls

In addition to the above, we have all currently relevant products in stock. wireless interfaces– Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and GPS (with A-GPS). By the way, the latter uses English-language Bing Maps for navigation (far from complete), but if you don’t like them, you can already download them from the Marketplace free application gMaps, which is an improved version of Google Maps, and navigate with it.

The battery left a positive impression. 1300 mAh allows you to work at full load (surfing, calls, SMS, checking mail, Wi-Fi, music) for about two days. If you often watch or shoot videos, this figure will be lower.

And two big disadvantages are the lack of a slot for a memory card and a front video camera. If you can somehow come to terms with the second (video calls would only be possible for now through full-fledged Skype, but it’s not even in the Marketplace), then the first causes sad tears of disappointment. Of course, everyone can immediately remember the iPhone with the same problem, but out of spite we will remember Android: most devices with this OS do not have such a problem. Therefore, the user will have to be content with eight gigabytes of built-in flash memory for life, unless they invent some kind of mobile card reader that connects via micro-USB or Wi-Fi in the “I’m not bothering anyone, I’m sitting here fixing the Primus” mode.

Camera

The five-megapixel photo and video camera is quite simple. In the settings, you can set the type of shooting (among others, there is night mode and macro photography), select one of four effects and resolution (from 0.3 MP to eight), set exposure, and adjust flicker and flash. This is where the settings end.

Test shots of HTC Mozart

The quality of the images itself is slightly above average - color rendition is correct, autofocus and the shooting process itself are quite fast, but artifacts and oversharpening are still noticeable - but only at a scale of 1:1 or larger. The disadvantage of the camera is that the process is only possible in 4:3 format. Unfortunately, there is no place for the now fashionable wide format 16:10/16:9 here. But shooting indoors does not frighten you with incorrect white balance.

The camera is also capable of recording video in HD format with a resolution of 1280x720 and 24 frames per second, and even in poor lighting conditions the picture will not twitch or slow down. Still, this is a plus for the camera.

What everyone has been waiting for so long

If a journalist talks about Microsoft product and will not scold him with a single word - he will immediately be suspected of bribery. Therefore, we will not give reasons. Because inconveniences and shortcomings are still present.

First, there's the Windows Marketplace. Applications are several times more expensive than in Android (but they are comparable to prices in the Apple Market), and there are still very few of them. We can say that practically none. Of course, in a year the situation should improve, especially since tools for developing applications for this operating system are freely available on the Microsoft website. Free programs there is, but, of course, don’t expect an abundance of Android Market and Apple Market just yet.

The HTC Mozart camera allows you to take fairly high-quality pictures

Another (subjective) disadvantage is the lack of real multitasking. There is “a little” of it - that is, for example, you can simultaneously listen to music, chat and sometimes answer calls at the same time - but the paradox is that nothing more is needed. For example, in the same Android it was necessary to use task managers to rid memory of applications that do not want to leave the battlefield; in WP7 you don’t need to do this, because there is no field - and, we repeat, this doesn’t really interfere with life.

Microsoft Zune is the third global disadvantage of the system. A cumbersome media manager that requires installation to synchronize a WP7 device with a computer - similar to iTunes, which is cursed even by Apple itself. True, unlike the Apple product, here this monstrous mammoth is easy to bypass - just download the WP7 USB Storage Enabled program and run it once so that the gadget can be used Windows control The Phone 7 felt like a removable hard drive in your system and didn't feel the urge to communicate with the Zune. But initially you will still have to create folders with pictures and music using the Zune, since when displayed in Explorer they have unique and unpronounceable names consisting of local idiomatic expressions of the operating system.

The body design of HTC smartphones remains minimalistic and recognizable

Minor inconveniences are also observed during use: for example, to answer a call you need to make two movements, not one - the first to unlock, and the second to answer. Or let's say search system: Not everyone loves Bing, and the search button really gets in the way when surfing, because it accidentally falls under one of your fingers, leading you into the blue (however, Google on Android behaves no better, to be honest). I would also like to see broader settings - for example, so that the desktop would have some themes, and not just “dark” and “light” (black and white backgrounds, respectively). The status bar at the top could also be used somehow more actively - like in Android, for example.

Swype, of course, is not enough when typing, but the dictionary and the keyboard itself are made perfectly - there are almost no errors when typing with dots, since the system memory even contains very rare words. But these are all minor flaws that may well be corrected in the next updates, if Microsoft agrees with all this.

Because there are no add-ons like Samsung TouchWiz or HTC Sense this operating system is not provided in principle. There are apps from HTC itself and even a proprietary start screen with a clock and weather widget, but it exists as a separate HTC Hub application and cannot be set as the start page.

HTC Mozart's aluminum body adds durability

In general, I would like to end this paragraph on a positive note: surprisingly, over several days of active use of the new product, the system never crashed, hung, went crazy, crashed, or even quarreled about anything. And stable and convenient operation is the main thing when using technology, no matter how you look at it.

It can be stated that Microsoft has finally made a successful and high-quality operating system, which, with a little modification with a file in Redmond, can really compete with both Android and iOS. True, except for the number of applications, but this is a fixable matter. General asceticism, even simplicity, and some restrictions in this case were only beneficial.

Results

I would like to summarize here with the following words. it was a success, Windows Phone 7 was a success - with the exception of a few inconveniences that would be nice to eliminate, but you can live like this, and very happily. WP7 has absolutely nothing in common with Windows Mobile 6.5; it is an independent operating system, written from scratch (according to Microsoft), stable and with convenient functions. As for the hardware, the smartphone itself can also be called well-made, despite such disadvantages as the lack of a slot for memory cards and an inconvenient volume control.

The new product is definitely worth a try for enthusiasts who are already bored with Android and iOS, as well as for those who need a smartphone that works stably without dancing with a tambourine - which, however, can be customized, but within certain limits. costs about 13,000 rubles, it is more than worth the money, and we send it sailing with our best wishes.

HTC 7 Mozart is one of three WP7 smartphones released by the Taiwanese company, providing surround sound when watching videos and listening to music.

The smartphone is equipped with a 3.7-inch WVGA screen, an 8-megapixel camera with a xenon flash and the ability to record 720p HD video, as well as 3G and Wi-Fi modules for high-speed web browsing.

Most WP7 smartphones are not much different - Microsoft has strictly set the requirements for software and hardware specifications. But what makes the HTC 7 Mozart stand out from other HTC smartphones, such as the HD7 and Trophy? The fact is that HTC 7 Mozart pays special attention to sound quality. It uses SRS WOW HD virtual surround sound - the sound panorama is increased even in headphones, the bass sounds more realistic and more small details are heard.

The HTC 7 Mozart is slightly smaller in size than the HTC 7 Trophy and HTC HD7, and has a better camera (8 MP versus 5 MP).

The phone has 8 gigabytes of built-in memory, it cannot be increased - memory cards are not supported.

There is a lot on the back panel: a camera lens, a xenon flash, a small external speaker (often mistaken for a micro-USD port for a charger), Orange, HTC and Windows Phone logos, as well as HTC stylistic elements - triangular rubberized segments at the top and bottom , the body itself is made of aluminum.

The front panel contains familiar hardware buttons: return, menu and search. Very strict and serious.

In addition to these buttons, along the edges there are: camera shutter, volume controls, and on top there is a lock and power button. There is also a 3.5 mm headphone output.

HTC 7 Mozart is a fairly thin and light device. But in the hand it lies firmly and confidently. The aluminum body makes its presence felt.

The 3.7-inch WVGA screen (even though it's not as large as the HTC HD7 or Super AMOLED like the Samsung Omnia 7) is very bright and clear.

The camera of the HTC 7 Mozart is very good - 8 megapixels - the most best camera among all WP7 smartphones. The interface is exactly the same as that of HTC HD7 and HTC 7 Trophy.

It’s a little disappointing that the camera focuses only on the center of the picture; on the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4, focusing occurs in the place where you point your finger.

Colors are vibrant and the separation of shadows and reds is well done.

In the upper left corner the brightness is slightly reduced, the leaves on the tree completely merge.

It is impossible to shoot without blur in this mode. This is the most optimal distance at which you can shoot. It's all about the lack of a stabilizer, a shutter button on the screen and the design of the shutter button.

The camera has a 6x zoom. Full zoom, as you would expect, produces a very pixelated image. The slightest movement blurs the picture, making it very difficult to take a high-quality photo.

Other effects are standard. Monochrome photography is not bad, but a little overexposed.

Sepia effect - the picture is too orange.

The negative effect works well - autumn trees look like they were photographed in spring.

One of the most questionable effects. The HTC 7 Mozart camera copes with it quite well.

The flash is very bright, and even too bright for portrait photography. Due to the dual flash, the camera takes pictures very slowly - first the camera shutter sounds, and only then the flash fires. Every now and then a photograph was taken at a moment when the moment had already passed.

The xenon flash slows down the shooting, but there's no denying the fact that it's very good. The problem is that you have to hold the camera for too long without moving, and at the slightest movement the photo turns out to be blurry.

Without flash and in low light, the picture is very dark, without details.

Several professional features have been added to the camera: a brightness check, which helps determine how much light a photo needs; reducing flicker from monitors and TVs. The benefits of these things are rather doubtful, the difference with or without them is imperceptible. But it’s nice that the camera even has such little things.

It’s useless to use the sports mode with a flash - you simply won’t have time to take the right shot. Without a flash you will be able to take it, but the photo will be too blurry, like in this photo.

There was no real beach to test this mode, so the picture was taken in the trees. I want to believe that these are beach trees. Brightness is reduced for balance. In general, you probably shouldn’t take your phones to the beach—sand and water can damage them.]

Candlelight mode adds blue to balance out the warm candlelight. There's even too much blue.

Video

HTC 7 Mozart shoots HD video at 720p. The shooting quality is exactly the same as that of HTC Desire HD, Sony Ericsson Vivaz and Nokia N8. (By the way, RIM promises that their BlackBerry PlayBook tablet will shoot Full HD 1080p.)

As you can see in this clip, the video recorder constantly monitors the light level and autofocus, but it is slightly delayed, so the brightness is sometimes too high, overexposed, and the focus floats.

Sound

The phone's built-in speaker reproduces sound quite well, even without activating SRS or Dolby, the sound is very different from cheaper phones. When turned on via pre-installed application HTC Sound Enhancer for the Dolby Mobile effect, the sound becomes approximately the same as on a dual-speaker iPhone 4. The only negative is that when listening to music through an external speaker, the phone must be placed sideways or with the back cover up.

More about strangely located elements. The volume controls on the HTC 7 Mozart are extremely inconvenient to use, since they are located on the inside of the curved end. Changing the volume or launching the playback widget with one hand is unlikely to be possible.
Another annoyance is the pauses between tracks, even if you listen to the songs from the album in order. And the only random play option is to shuffle all the songs on the phone.

Headphones are used not only for listening to music files, but also as an antenna for FM radio. Unfortunately, there is no normal application for listening to the radio on your phone. Autoscan could not find a single station, so you have to search manually, and this is very tedious. Adding stations to your favorites is very simple - with one click.

When it comes to video playback, this is where SRS virtual surround sound comes into its own. When watching movies, to fully experience the sound effect, it is best to use headphones: the sounds of explosions, gunshots and others surround you from all sides - the sensation is unique. The SRS effect is even better than Dolby Mobile.

Picture quality on the WVGA screen is quite good (though it is smaller than the HTC HD7 phone - only 3.7 inches rather than 4.3), especially when viewed vertically.

If you are used to high contrast Super AMOLED screen phone Samsung Galaxy S, the HTC 7 Mozart screen will disappoint you. Even despite a fairly fast video processor, the video manages to freeze, and color reproduction is not always correct.
The screen brightness is adjustable only in three positions - low, medium and high.

Supported audio formats:

  • M4A, M4B, MP3, WMA (Windows Media Audio 9)

Supported video formats:

  • Playback: 3GP, 3G2, MP4, M4V, MBR, WMV (Windows Media Video 9 and VC-1)
  • Entry: MP4

Battery

The HTC 7 Mozart has a Lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 1300 mAh, which, according to the manufacturer, will provide the phone with 330 minutes of talk time or 435 hours of standby time. Don't put too much faith in these numbers. At first the battery began to discharge very quickly, then it began to discharge more slowly. But you are unlikely to get 5.5 hours of talk time on a single charge.

Don't expect the phone to last 18 days on standby mode. If you use it less intensively, you have to charge it every day. For intensive use - every 5 hours.

Capacity: 1300 mAh

In conversation mode:

  • WCDMA: Up to 330 minutes
  • GSM: Up to 405 minutes

In standby:

  • WCDMA: Up to 435 hours
  • GSM: Up to 360 hours

Conclusion

HTC 7 Mozart is one of the most best phones on the Windows Phone 7 platform - a system with an amazingly beautiful design, a new approach to home page in the form of live tiles and filling the interface design with your own content.

pros

  • Very good sound thanks to the use of virtual SRS sound, especially when watching movies.
  • Very light, with rubberized elements, the HTC 7 Mozart will serve you faithfully until it becomes completely obsolete.
  • The camera takes great pictures, albeit slowly (especially with flash).

Minuses

  • The black body doesn't quite suit this phone; the volume controls are not very conveniently located.

Verdict

HTC 7 Mozart is an excellent phone on the Windows Phone 7 platform. Everything about it is thought out to the smallest detail, HTC is a reliable manufacturer, and you don’t have to worry about the quality of the device.

The phone has a very good music part and address book. But even with its 1-Hz processor and 576 megabytes of RAM, it sometimes manages to freeze on the simplest tasks.

Company HTC announced this smartphone in October 2010. It was one of the first smartphones on the operating system Windows Phone 7. True, it became relevant for our market only with the release Windows updates Phone Mango, because only then did the Russian language appear in it, which significantly simplified the use of the device in our area.
It is worth noting that the smartphone itself HTC Mozart Quite average in terms of characteristics. It is equipped with a processor with a frequency of 1 GHz, 8 GB of flash memory for data storage, an 8-megapixel camera with the ability to record HD video, a 3.7-inch display with a fairly standard resolution of 480x800 pixels and other functions that have already become standard for. Design, build quality, controls

IN HTC Mozart smartphone The main materials are metal and plastic, which is very pleasing, since today there are not many devices that use so much metal in the body structure. The frame of the device is made of metal; a similar design was used in other devices. The device lies solidly in the hand, the assembly is excellent, nothing creaks or plays. Back cover, covering the battery holds tightly. The coolness from the metal part of the rear panel also adds a pleasant sensation. Also, the device itself is not easily soiled, the glass can be easily wiped even by hand. In general, to me, the design of the smartphone stands out among its competitors for the better.

On the front panel there is, of course, the display itself, and above it there is a speaker along a metal mesh. An indicator of missed events is located nearby, and a little lower is a proximity indicator. Below the screen there are three standard touch keys for this OS: “back”, “Win” and “search”. They are quite convenient to use. When you press the back button for a long time, a menu appears with all running programs.

On the right side of the smartphone there is a two-position camera activation button (a rarity for today Android, and for Windows Phone - the rule), on the left there is a microUSB connector and, of course, a volume rocker key.

The 3.5" audio jack and the phone's on/off button are located on the top end, and the microphone is on the bottom.

On the back of the case there is a camera eye, a xenon flash (which is also rare for modern devices) and a hole for the speakerphone.

I would like to note that in order to remove the SIM card you need to pull the bottom plastic insert, unclip the fasteners and get the battery.

Display
The smartphone is equipped with a 3.7-inch diagonal display with a resolution of 480x800 pixels. It is made using Super-LCD technology and displays up to 16 million shades of colors. Sensor type - capacitive, supports multi-touch (multi-touch), the display is covered with protective glass Gorilla Glass, protecting it from scratches (of course you can scratch it, but you have to try: J).

There is, of course, an accelerometer and a light sensor. The screen has high brightness, which can be adjusted either manually or with a light sensor. Although the display fades in the sun, you can read information from it.

It is worth noting that the brightness drops slightly when tilted, but in general the viewing angles of the display are great. The quality and brightness of the picture is significantly higher than in the Sony Ericsson X10.

Energy saving
HTC Mozart is equipped with a lithium-ion (Li-Ion) battery with a capacity of 1300 mAh. Model - BB96100. According to the manufacturer, the device operates in standby mode for up to 430 hours and talk time - up to five and a half hours.

In real life, the figures are somewhat lower. Under heavy load, the operating time of the device will be a day. But if you want, you can spend 3:00 listening to music, talking for half an hour, working on the Internet for two or three hours and playing games for up to an hour.

You can charge the device either from USB (1.5 hours) or from the network (about 1 hour).

It was strange for me that the low battery indicator is constantly displayed in the menu. In order to find out the real charge, you need to swipe your finger from top to bottom - this is not Android. 🙂

Camera
The device has a good 8 megapixel camera with automatic focusing and xenon flash. This type of flash has the advantage that pictures in the dark will look better than using an LED flash. The disadvantage of this type of flash is that it can be used as a flashlight.

The maximum photo size is 3264x2448 pixels. Video The smartphone shoots in resolution - HD720p 1280x720 pixels at 24 frames per second.

Photos with HTC Mozart they turn out to be of quite high quality. This camera is enough for you to take everyday photos. It’s bad that you won’t be able to shoot video in the dark - this is through the use of a flash type that cannot work continuously. When shooting video, autofocus works, focusing speed is up to 2 seconds. The video is of fairly normal quality.
You can launch the camera either from the dedicated camera button or from the phone menu.

Performance
HTC Mozart built on a Snapdragon chip, processor - Qualcomm QSD8250. It has ARMv7 architecture, clock frequency 1000 MHz, technological process - 65 nm. Many other smartphones running Windows Phone 7 are equipped with the same processor. The device has 576 MB of RAM and 8 GB of flash memory for data storage (we had a copy for the Orange operator, which has 16 GB memory). There is no slot for a memory card, but it is possible to increase the amount of memory at home, because the phone has a built-in regular memory card, the user simply does not have access to it - the phone needs to be disassembled.

According to personal feelings, the device works quickly, at a level that uses more powerful processors. We did not notice any slowdowns when working with the smartphone.

Interfaces
The device supports GSM (850/900/1800/1900) and UMTS (900/2100) networks, and also supports EDGE (class 32) and HSDPA (up to 7.2 Mbit) data transfer standards.

The device also supports:
Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n;
Bluetooth version 2.1 with A2DP (AVRCP, HFP, HSP, PBAP)
MicroUSB 2.0.

It is worth noting that when you connect HTC Mozart to a PC, the system will automatically prompt you to install special software for data synchronization - “Zune”. Without this program, the smartphone is not even detected as a USB-Flash. To transfer data from your phone to your computer and back, you need to synchronize. Photos and videos are saved in the folder “My Documents” - “Image” - “From HTC 7 Mozart T8698 Player”.

Navigation
HTC Mozart is equipped GPS module(gpsONE seventh generation). To work with navigation, the “Maps” application (Bing Maps) is provided. The “cold” start time is about a minute, the “hot” start is up to 5 seconds.

Multimedia

Music
The music player is located in the “music + video” item. In it you can already go to the following sections: music, video, podcasts, radio.
The second menu contains thumbnails of the media content that you launched. If you scroll further to the right, thumbnails of newly downloaded songs and videos are displayed. By launching Music and scrolling from left to right, you can organize your music by artist, album, track, playlist, and genre. When playing a song, control buttons, a small album cover, the album name and the song name appear on the screen. You can control the player in the background (to do this, press the volume rocker key) or through the lock screen.

The volume in the headphones is enough to spare, and the sound quality itself is high level, better than in Android devices or somewhere on par. The player supports the following music formats: M4a, M4b, Mp3, Wma (Windows Media Audio 9).

Video
This section displays only those video file formats that are recognized. When synchronizing a WP7 smartphone with Zune, the application understands which format will be “read” and which will not.

The interface is very simple: player control and a button to expand the video to full screen. The video player supports 3gp, .3 g2,. Mp4,. M4v,. Mbr. Wmv (Windows Media Video 9 and VC-1), as well as AVI. The maximum resolution is up to 720p and bitrate up to 10,000 Kbps. Videos start instantly and scroll without delay. We didn't have any problems working with video.

Radio
The radio operates in the range 85 - 108 MHz. The volume is slightly lower than in the player, but the sound is of fairly good quality. The radio only works with connected headphones. It is possible to play the radio through a loudspeaker.

Photo gallery
The photo gallery is organized intelligently. Everything is intuitive and clear.

Software platform
HTC Mozart runs an operating system Windows Phone 7.5 Mango.

What can you note when working with this OS? First of all, it should be noted that quick start smartphone. I'm glad that multitasking has appeared in the update. It works as follows: to minimize a running program, you need to press the “Win” key, and to open the add-on, you need to hold down the “Back” key again. It is worth noting that not all dadatki yet support many tasks.

Unfortunately, there is no interface in Ukrainian; there is only a Russian interface. The Russian menu interface is translated with high quality, I am glad that it is possible to enter information in Ukrainian.

Windows Phone Mango now integrates built-in accounts with Facebook, Google and Windows Live, Linkedin and Twitter. After you activate your Twitter account, its hub will begin to appear on the main screen. You can read and respond to tweets in the “contacts” section. There is a “Battery Saver” function, where you can set certain parameters for saving battery power.

Competitors
The Windows Phone 7 platform is not yet as widely represented in the world as Android. There are almost no real competitors to HTC Mozart on the Windows Phone OS yet, so for now we will only consider solutions based on other OSes that are similar in price, mainly based on the Android OS.

Sony Ericsson Xperia RAY
If the operating system is not important to you, then one of the best alternatives to the HTC Mozart smartphone is the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray. It is more compact, lighter, prettier (although this is subjective). The camera in it is also quite good, and the screen has a similar resolution, but at the same time a smaller diagonal.
In terms of battery life, HTC Mozart and Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray are almost equal, but the operating system interface in the latter is slower, this is obvious.

LG Optimus Black
Another Android competitor to HTC Mozart was released by LG. It came out much earlier than Mozart reached our region, and it costs about the same money.
LG Optimus Black has a larger and better screen, a different (albeit comparable in performance) hardware platform. But at the same time, the camera is worse and the design is not so nice.

Nokia N8
For those who are still comfortable with Symbian in general (and Symbian^3 in particular) there is the Nokia N8. This device features an all-metal body, a good screen, and an excellent built-in camera.

However, subjectively, it loses to HTC Mozart in terms of beauty and user-friendliness of the interface. In my opinion, buying HTC Mozart will be more promising. So it’s worth taking a closer look if you are interested in buying a smartphone for a long time - two or three years.

Conclusion
While using the smartphone, there were no problems with communication. The call itself is loud and can be clearly heard under various external noise conditions. The vibration alert is average in strength. Pleases good quality sound through headphones. A good 8 MP camera and xenon lens make it also a camera phone.

On my own HTC Mozart evoked positive feelings, it pleases with its high-quality assembly, high-quality materials of the case, its solidity and pleasant design. In terms of hardware, Mozart belongs to the middle class devices.

Regarding the operating system, it should be noted that with the release Windows Phone Mango the situation has improved significantly, with more than 500 innovations introduced. In the Windows Phone OS itself, the speed and smoothness of the interface. The disadvantages include the lag in the development of this OS from its main competitors - iOS and Android. And of course, the set of programs is much more modest.
