What year did the iPhone come out...: an overview of all iPhones by year. In what year did the iPhone come out...: an overview of all iPhones by year SIM cards are used in mobile devices to save data that certifies the authenticity of mobile service subscribers

Manufacturers mobile phones, smartphones and communicators have taught us that the new is almost always very different from the old. The new device should have a number of very serious differences. It is best to be visible from afar. New design, new functions, new services, accessories, new everything. When we wait for an announcement from a company, we expect some kind of breakthrough and are upset when it doesn’t happen. If this new flagship then give us unique design. Give us a new form factor. We are bored, we want something new and new. Naturally, at the time when the announcement related to the iPhone 3Gs began, everyone already understood everything, but did not fully believe that the company would dare to present the same thing, only with a different operating speed. Well, what is it, can you see it, can you boast about it, are these the “beads” we are used to? Is this a familiar subject for discussion on forums and with friends? No, not at all. It was unusual when someone doesn't do like everyone else and doesn't "roll out" a line of three different devices, for different audiences, but does something completely different. With what? Well, for example, by bringing to life the existing operating system used in both phones and players. The iPhone OS 3.0 update brought so much to Apple's devices that another manufacturer would have turned it into a huge marketing black noise. Another company would have presented a whole line with new firmware. But Apple has a different approach - every user of even the very first iPhone, even the first Touch can get many new features for free or for money. Control playback by shaking, work with wireless stereo headsets, excellent search, flawless copy&paste, work in modem mode without additional software with both Apple and Windows-based computers, and so on. The system is being updated constantly, hourly and nightly. But Apple is in no hurry to rivet a whole range of different devices; apparently, they understand a simple thing. All you have to do is scatter your energy, start fiddling with different segments - that’s it, the house is gone. Going after the fans and geeks who demand QWERTY, OLED displays, 64 gigabytes of memory is also the road to the bright kingdom called “nowhere”, not the mass market.

As a result, iPhone 3Gs, if we talk about our country, was far from being in favor. The model is not officially sold here; it is very expensive on the gray market, and there is no understanding of what to pay for. In addition, through the efforts of people who persistently instilled a love for the first generation iPhone on various forums, this device turned into a kind of vulgar object either for a blonde or for a certain character in a fashion chronicle. A number of friends have no idea what else can be done with this thing, besides making calls and listening to music. There are many stereotypes that no one can break. I often hear extremely funny statements about the device, obviously from people who have never used the device. For some reason, some people believe that in our country the use of the Apple brand affects changes in sexual orientation; users especially like to talk about this Windows Mobile. I don’t even know what to do for me, a married man with a child, the owner of an iPhone, two MacBooks, an Apple TV and an iPod Classic. I can’t say that I look at representatives of my own sex or dream about rhinestones, tight clothes, and so on. Apparently, this is an attempt to humiliate the gadget minority in response to the frequent attempts of this very minority to aggressively instill their tastes and views on technology. Yes, this happens too. It costs a fifteen-year-old to become the owner iPod Shuffle, how immediately there is an awareness of one’s significance, difference, which results in great amount meaningless discussions, disputes, wars and so on.

In addition, as I said earlier, with the appearance of the official iPhone 3G on sale, many lost interest in the mysterious overseas toy. You don’t have to worry about unlocking or installing special software, take it and use it, the programs are available in the AppStore, they’re cheap, you can pay with a debit card - happiness. Once what I call the “dungeon children syndrome” disappeared, the debate died down, the discussions died down, and many sites entirely dedicated to the iPhone disappeared. The second wave with the arrival of the iPhone 3Gs, which is not officially on sale here yet, did not happen precisely for the reasons stated above. iPhone 3G users don’t understand what’s wrong with this, for which they have to pay about thirty thousand rubles or more. Interest has subsided, the fashion has passed, so now you can more or less calmly communicate with representatives of other camps or with seasoned users of the iPhone 2G, the “true iPhone” for all times. As for fashion, indeed, many avoid buying this device precisely because it is too common. I don’t even remember how many times I found myself in a party where every second person had such a device, you can’t help but think, shouldn’t I make some kind of exotic thing my main one?

Therefore, I would not like this material to become some kind of subject for controversy or war. In Russia, I believe, there is already a community of users of Apple technology; many people choose the company’s products not only for their design and differences, but also for their capabilities, some of which are not found in other devices. For example, if we talk about the iPhone, then these are the following points, I will list them:

You can argue about mail; I didn’t write about some other applications. For example, this is “Clock”, it’s nice to use an alarm clock here; there has never been a case where the alarm did not go off. I also said nothing about the AppStore; in general, I just don’t want to argue, so I only settled on, in my opinion, the best. There are also negative aspects, some of which will be critical for many:

  • The need to use iTunes to transfer music, movies, photos, synchronize with Outlook and so on. There are also a number of very strange restrictions - by default, your device is “locked” to only one computer, this is not very cool.
  • Not a very long operating time with active use, in my case it’s a day and a half in standby mode.
  • A number of small points: when using several mailboxes with a minimum verification interval set, it is difficult to reach you by phone; some people do not like the fact that all banners are not displayed in the browser. And, of course, multitasking is a key drawback for which the iPhone is often criticized. For example, you cannot launch ICQ, then close it without losing the connection. No, when you click the button, the program simply closes, then you need to start it again. We have been hearing promises to add multitasking for quite some time, but so far things are still there. To be more precise, it exists as such; you can, for example, listen to music and use a browser.
  • In fact, it turns out that it is best to use the iPhone paired with the included headset; choosing headphones to improve sound quality is difficult. This is a VERY subjective opinion. Here we are talking not only about sound quality, but also about using the headset in general.
  • Microcracks on the case near the mute lever, SIM card slot, of the three iPhone 3G samples, each suffered from this flaw. Almost invisible, not affecting the work in any way, but still their presence is a little annoying. I note that the iPhone 2G had another problem: if not handled carefully, the case easily becomes covered with scratches and abrasions. But to the credit of the device, I note that it is very difficult to “kill” it. My friend’s phone fell while she was swinging, crashed into a pole, flew several meters and fell on concrete. crumpled, crumpled, with broken glass, The iPhone continued to work. For several thousand rubles, they replaced the case, a bunch of batteries, and some other parts - that’s all, practically a new device.

So, I feel that for three pages now I have been talking about something completely different from what you want to hear about. So, what's good about the iPhone 3Gs? What's new? Should I consume it or should I not? Go ahead, let's figure it out. I believe that you already know very well what the iPhone comes with, so I will dwell on the main innovations, plus I will answer some questions that were asked to me.

Design is still the same

Visually distinguishing iPhone 3Gs from iPhone 3G is almost impossible, because there are no changes in appearance. Dimensions are 115.2x62.1x12.3 mm, weight - 133 grams. The device is still convenient to carry in your pocket; according to the company, the plastic used is different, more environmentally friendly. Let's hope that microcracks will not appear over time.

Display – does not get dirty

The iPhone 3Gs has a very interesting display, in the sense that it has an interesting coating that protects it from fat deposits. This is a real problem for the iPhone 3G; after long conversations, especially in the heat, the phone should definitely be wiped down. And it’s not a fact that you can do this efficiently with an ordinary paper napkin; it’s better to use a suede or microfiber cloth. The green “miracle rag” also helps, look for it in stores, it’s suitable for any equipment in general, I really like it.

So, a simple test: two clean devices, run a freshly washed finger across iPhone display 3G. There is a trace. We move our finger across the iPhone 3Gs display. There is essentially no trace. The display seems very smooth, like an ice skating rink, a completely different feeling compared to 3G. During use, this moment is very pleasing. Naturally, the back varnished surface quickly becomes covered with fingerprints, but getting the display too dirty is problematic. It gets dirty, yes, but it's not very noticeable, easy to remove, and doesn't look terrible. I think any 3G user will appreciate the innovation, especially if he constantly uses the device.

By the way, about the case, packaging and delivery set. By and large, nothing has changed, everything is the same as with 3G. I can’t say anything about microcracks; I’ve only had the iPhone 3Gs for about a week.

Updated headset

Actually, the update here is minimal, it is now possible to adjust the volume directly from the remote control on the cable, this is convenient; previously you had to take out your phone or feel for the buttons in your pocket. This is another advantage of the iPhone, because we have a very small but full-fledged remote control, with its help you can stop and start playback, rewind songs back and forth, and adjust the volume. There are no surprises in terms of sound quality; with the included headphones, the iPhone 3Gs demonstrates good capabilities for daily use. Not for audiophiles, not for those who are used to listening to music alone - at full volume with this headset everyone around you will hear you. A reason to change it to something else... But you’re unlikely to find anything as convenient for both conversations and music. It's a shame we don't sell them Motorola headsets EH series.

Speed – yes

Changing the processor was not in vain; the prefix “S” here just means speed (Sport? Speed?). The device works faster, but how is this noticeable, how is it expressed? Perhaps only in comparison with the iPhone 3G can you understand the difference. To do this, let's put both devices side by side, connect to Wi-Fi and start launching different applications simultaneously. Immediately comes the understanding of what was meant by the letter “S”. Click on the Safari icon, for 3Gs it has already launched, a page has opened, for 3G it is still launching. Let's open YouTube - the 3Gs has already opened a list of videos, you can select and launch the one you want, the 3G still starts it. Let's open the AppStore - the same thing. Let's open the "Calculator" - it opens at the same time. The conclusion here is simple: iPhone 3Gs works much faster with heavy applications. At the request of readers, I conducted an experiment with ICQ (several open sessions) and a running player. Indeed, if you do this trick on an iPhone 3G, the work becomes slow and completely uninteresting. If we talk about 3Gs, then heaven and earth – no “brakes”, everything is very fast. Messages are sent instantly, the list of subscribers is quickly loaded, and a mini-player is displayed (press the multifunction key twice quickly).

Comparison of operating speed with Apple iPhone 3G

In general, in terms of speed, the iPhone 3Gs is extremely interesting and much more preferable than 3G. But there are a number of key points about changing one to the other. If you are with using iPhone just call and listen to music, use simple applications like “Clock”, then there is no point in updating for you. Moreover, only an iPhone 3G user will appreciate the speed of operation; he has something to compare with. If installing applications, using a browser, mail, watching YouTube, using third party applications, then taking a closer look at 3Gs is not only possible, but also necessary. Especially if you don’t want to switch to another brand.

What kind of processor is used in the iPhone 3Gs? Not long ago, a device called ODROID was announced, which uses the same processor as the iPhone 3Gs (at least that's what the press materials say). Additional searches lead us to the Samsung S5PC100. In light of this, there are rumors about the imminent release of an update for the iPhone 3Gs, which will support high-definition video. Besides, said decision it is also best suited for games, I think that in 2009 we will still have a lot of surprises in this regard.

Opening hours are not good

The operating time of the iPhone 3Gs, in my opinion, remains unchanged. I specifically did not look at the official data, but simply used the device in normal mode. For me, the usual mode is constantly checking three mailboxes, using a browser, music, Wi-Fi and Push turned on, about an hour of talk a day. Actually, by late afternoon the charge indicator bar had decreased by more than half, and the iPhone was charging all night. He spent the evening and night in quiet mode, only occasional calls and SMS, mail, Wi-Fi was turned off. And already in the morning, at about nine in the morning, a message appeared on the screen about ten percent of the battery charge. I didn’t bother any further, I connected the USB cable. In general, don't expect a long runtime. The matter, in principle, can be fixed; there are a lot of accessories for the device on the market, including cases with a battery, and so on.

I completely forgot, another interesting feature in 3Gs is the ability to enable the display of battery charge as a percentage. A useful thing; previously, in order to see the percentages, you had to “break” the device programmatically.

Compass

There is a compass. I don’t quite understand what’s wrong with this, I guess I have to go mushroom hunting with the iPhone 3Gs to appreciate it. If I suddenly get lost and don’t come back, it means the testing failed.

As faithful comrades suggest, a compass is not just a compass, but a kind of thing for introducing “augmented reality technology.” For example, I recommend looking at the website of the Acrossair program, where both a compass and a camera are used to indicate the direction towards the nearest metro. This is just an example, but the possibilities are impressive - for a pedestrian suffering from topographic cretinism, this is a godsend.

In the compass settings you can select magnetic or true north (I don’t know why), the coordinates are displayed, and you can immediately go to the map.

Nike+iPod

A corresponding item has appeared right in the settings, that is, the iPhone 3Gs can work with the Nike+iPod Bluetooth sensor and the original watch without installing additional software. I’m still going to buy myself a Nike with this functionality, there is a person on our forum who has been using this product for a long time (ZenPC, hello). I believe that in the fall we will write an article together about this side of the device. For now, in order not to bloat the material, I will limit myself to praising this functionality; it is a useful addition for morning and evening runners.

Three megapixels

The camera module has been changed, now it is 3 megapixels instead of two. You can evaluate the quality of the pictures yourself, I’ll just say that for a three-ruble note this is a more than normal result. A switch lever for shooting video (VGA, 30 fps) has now appeared in the camera menu, and you can also evaluate the videos yourself. Naturally, these are not key features for the iPhone, but you can shoot masterpieces, you just need a normally configured tool called the “head”. For example, Flickr has a community called Photos taken with an Apple iPhone. There are more than seventy thousand photographs, there are incredibly beautiful shots, and you won’t think that they were taken with something other than a photographic phone. In addition, there are a number third party programs for editing, adding effects, drawing and so on.

To summarize: as always, it's not about megapixels, but only about your skills.

Video examples:

Oops, I forgot the most important thing. In the iPhone 3Gs, it became possible to manually set the focus point: click on the desired area - the focus moves there, everything is very fast and clear. This is typical for both photos and videos. This is such a nice little thing.

Voice control

The “European” iPhone 3Gs took part in the testing; at the moment this is the best option to buy (and the most expensive). No need for unlocking and so on, insert your SIM card and get started. There is nothing to worry about the software part, in the settings you can set both the Russian language and the Russian keyboard, in general, even now this uncertified device is completely ready for the services of any person, even not familiar with English language. One of the very important features of the iPhone 3Gs is the presence of voice control; it is launched by long pressing the button under the display (aka “home”). In the settings you can select the voice control language, there are many languages there. So what can you do and how does it work? Let's start with the features:

  • When dialing a subscriber’s number, you must say “Call, Julia,” for example. This is not to say that everything is rosy; a lot depends on how you pronounce the word. Some contacts are dialed the first time, some are not dialed at all, as if they don’t exist. I believe that optimization has not yet been carried out here; when typing in English, everything is an order of magnitude better.
  • A set of numbers, you need to say “Number, eight nine zero and so on.” There are no questions at all, it works perfectly, everything is fine.
  • There are a lot of commands for the player, you can use your voice to start or pause playback, turn on Shuffle mode, make the player play similar songs (Genius), turn on such and such an album or playlist. Even when I wrote about VoiceOver in the iPod Shuffle, I suggested something similar in the iPhone - here it is, a clear confirmation. Voice control works fine, as long as we don’t talk about long names, for example, many of my mixes are called that way. The device copes with ordinary albums without difficulty, as long as there is a relatively short and clear title, an understandable album, and a playlist. Let's say I have playlists “Morning”, “Day”, “Evening” - there are no questions here, great.

If the subscriber name you named is not entirely clear or several similar names are found, the device will warn you about this and offer you to choose.

Surely there are still a number of improvements and changes to be made, however, even in its current state, the voice control of the iPhone 3Gs is extremely convenient in a number of cases, its presence and implementation is pleasing. True, there are no instructions here; on the display you see the names of commands; when you say a word, the waves “jump”, demonstrating that the device heard you. But guidance, in my opinion, is needed.

Voice control also works when using a headset. You can activate it with a long press of the multifunction button, just like with the iPod Shuffle - say a command, get an action. Interestingly, when using a wired headset, there are much fewer problems with identifying a name in the address book.

conclusions

Well, let's get down to the final chords. The new product from Apple cannot be called the “hottest” in 2009 or the most anticipated. This is a neat and logical continuation of the iPhone 3G with very strong differences, all of them extremely positive:

  • The speed of work has really increased significantly, due to this, daily use has become much more pleasant, much more pleasant. This is especially true when working with heavy applications. Let's hope game developers take advantage of the hardware iPhone capabilities 3Gs to the fullest.
  • The display coating really protects you from tedious and time-consuming cleaning and makes the device tidier; I don't know how, but this thing works.
  • Headset with full remote control.
  • I liked the implementation of voice control, let's hope that recognition will work better in localized devices.
  • Nike+iPod, having this app out of the box is a nice addition.

The remaining additions, such as video and compass, are less important. Not many people shoot video on their phones, and besides, there were already apps for the iPhone that allowed you to do this trick. It’s good, of course, that this functionality is there initially, but it’s secondary here (to put it mildly).

So, first, a conclusion for iPhone 3G owners who do not want to switch to anything else. It's worth upgrading, you will feel the difference in the first hours of use. For example, it’s time for me to return the phone to the owners, and I’m thinking with horror about how I can switch back to the iPhone 3G. When, how and for how much to buy 3Gs is up to you, you can take a “European” one, you can wait for the start of official sales, it all depends on the amount in your wallet. You can, in the end, stay on 3G while waiting for new devices, but no one knows when that will be. I doubt that a new iPhone model will appear in Russia before mid-2010.

Conclusion for owners of other devices, smartphones or communicators. At the moment, iPhone 3Gs provides the owner with unique opportunities to work with touch display, web surfing, simple mail is interesting, and as a gaming platform, the iPhone has long surpassed all its competitors (if we talk about phones). Neither N-gage nor SE's gaming efforts can compare to what's happening with iPhone games. You can find a lot of good toys, many of them are extremely unusual and exciting. This is the first point. The second is the ability to watch videos, this includes YouTube, which works perfectly, considering the size of the display (3.5 inches, resolution 480x320 pixels) and the speed of operation, viewing becomes extremely pleasant. The third point: despite the apparent “non-corporate” nature, the iPhone may well become your faithful companion in business. For example, using Apple's MobileMe service, you get the ability to synchronize mail, calendar, contacts, and browser bookmarks between your laptop (in my case) and your phone. Thanks to it, you can use the iDisk program directly on your phone to store and view office documents and other files (including music). I’m not agitating anyone, but to say that the iPhone is “for ladies” and cannot perform some mysterious “business functions” is at least ridiculous.

Another thing is that I would not recommend this device for purchase to everyone. Let’s say, if your main tasks are to make calls and write SMS, then it’s hardly worth spending money on. I won’t recommend 3Gs to “current fashionistas” either - there are much more interesting new products for you, such as Nokia N97, Samsung i8910 and so on. Apple devices are no longer fashionable, they have been forgotten, they have passed, it’s time to understand this. And anyway, it was sold for nine thousand, ugh, a nightmare, cheap. For fashionistas, this is a nightmare and cannot be done. Also, under no circumstances should Windows Mobile adherents approach 3Gs - there’s nowhere to dig around, there’s nothing special to configure, so it’s not worth it. If you are interested, surfing from a mobile device is important, normal, beautiful mail, multimedia capabilities, convenience and speed are important, then yes, iPhone 3Gs is your choice.

Apple managed to do the impossible: not only penetrate into a seemingly already formed market, but also overturn a number of established foundations. For example, this is the constant development of an existing OS for a family of devices. And not abandoning it, inventing a new system, inventing new devices for the new system, finishing the new system, not everything worked out, abandoning it, inventing a new system, new devices, finishing, abandoning - then ad infinitum. This is what some other companies do. The hint, I think, is clear. The appearance of the iPhone 3Gs, and not some kind of hellish mechanism in which everything is new, from hardware to interface, precisely demonstrates Apple’s approach in this area. Very reminiscent of the joke about a couple of bulls slowly descending a mountain.

The author expresses gratitude to the Icult.ru company for providing the device for testing. The “European” performed well, thank you (smiley).

iPhone 3G has arrived. The phone has a new body, the phone began to work in 3G networks and received a built-in GPS module. In 2009, a modernized version of the iPhone appeared, called the iPhone 3GS. The letter "S" added to the abbreviation stood for "speed" - the phone received a new faster processor and expanded RAM.

iPhone 3G

From 2008 to 2009, one of the most popular and hit phones in the world was produced. The popularity of this model was ensured by the successful combination of design, workmanship and functionality; this hit is called the iPhone 3G.

The magnificent bright contrast display, made using multi-touch technology, provides quick and convenient control of phone functions. Contributes to this and UNIX operating system iPhone OS (iOS) system, with an interface and controls that are intuitive even for a child.

The phone is equipped with all the necessary functions. Among them: a GPS receiver, a Wi-Fi module, a full-fledged MP3 player iPod, as well as an incredibly wide platform, the capabilities of which are expanded thanks to various applications from a special store App Store. iPhone supports all modern communication standards and can work with any operator in any country in the world.

The design of the iPhone is what sets it apart from all other phones. Stylish and elegant, that’s how you can describe it appearance devices. Thanks to the balanced design, the phone is perfect for everyone, both businessmen and schoolchildren - everyone will find something unique in it. To control the iPhone 3G you only need one key button, unlike other touch phones.

The phone body is made of high-quality, rigid and at the same time lightweight materials. The screen is protected by a glass panel that can withstand impacts much stronger than its plastic counterpart used in most other phones.

iPhone 3G is one of best solutions of its time, perfectly introducing a whole bunch of modern technologies into ours.

iPhone 3GS

iPhone 3GS this is an improved iPhone version 3G. The letter S attached stands for Speed. The only difference between them is hardware acceleration - the 3GS hardware is much more powerful than 3G. It was this technical improvement that allowed the iPhone 3GS to work noticeably (about 2 times) faster than its older brother.

In addition to the noticeable speed of operation, the new processor and RAM provided the iPhone 3GS with full-fledged operation of the latest mobile operating system - iOS 4. Thanks to it, the 3GS gained long-awaited multitasking, which was sometimes so lacking, as well as about 50 more various functions and extensions to standard features that are not available when using iOS 4 on iPhone 3G.

Documentation

Hi all! New model The iPhone comes out every year and Apple strictly adheres to this rule. However, “once a year” is too vague a formulation, don’t you think? Therefore, I propose today to find out the exact release date of absolutely all existing iPhone models. To collect, so to speak, all these numbers in one place.

For what? Firstly, it is always interesting to track how much time passes from the moment of presentation to the start of sales in Russia and the world. Secondly, such a cheat sheet can be useful to many (for me, as the author of a blog about Apple, certainly :)). Thirdly, why not? The content, in my opinion, is useful - let it be. Go!

For a clearer understanding, all information is presented in the table. A little explanation:

  • Start date of sales in the world - by “world” we mean the countries of the so-called “first wave” (USA, European countries, etc.)
  • The start date of sales in Russia is the beginning of sales of certified (PCT) iPhones.
  • The iPhone 2G was not “legally” sold in Russia, and the first official iPhone in the Russian Federation was the 3G model (a little more about this).

As you can see, the increase in loyalty is very clearly visible Apple to our country. The timing of the appearance of gadgets in Russia, compared to the global start of sales, decreased every year. And by the time the “six” came out, they reached their apogee. The difference was only a week!

For comparison - official iPhone 3GS appeared in Russia after almost 9 months! At this time the whole world was already waiting for the “four” :)

And my opinion is that everything was heading towards Russia being included this year in the list of those countries where Apple devices appear first. However, this did not happen and we all know why:

  • Instability of the ruble.
  • Great prices.
  • Low purchasing activity.

Well, let's wait and see and perhaps, specifically for the iPhone 7 model, a row with two identical numbers in the last two columns will be added to the table at the top :)

Updated! Well, with regards to the iPhone 7, miracles certainly didn’t happen, but Russia still got into the “second wave” of sales. In the Russian Federation, a brand new smartphone from Apple will appear only a week later than in the “first wave” countries. And this is very good! After all, the point is that starting with the iPhone 7S, our country should be among those who will receive it first.

Updated 2! Preliminary data (which are known immediately after the presentation) on the release of iPhone 8 and iPhone X have been added to the table. At the moment, opinions differ only about the G8 - will Russia be among the countries of the “first wave”? Or iPhone sales 8 in the Russian Federation will start a week later than in the rest of the world? Let's wait for more accurate information... We have waited. Still a week late. But Russia was included in the “first wave” of iPhone X sales - this is very cool!

Updated 3! Data about the release date of the iPhone XS and iPhone XR has been added to the table. As for the most advanced iPhone XS, Russia again fell into the “second wave of sales.” The new product will be delivered to the Russian Federation a week later than to the “first wave” countries. It's okay, we'll get through it somehow :) But sales of the iPhone XR in Russia begin at the same time as the rest of the world - October 26, 2018. Normal!

Updated 4! Added release date information for iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. Well... we can all be congratulated! Now, in order to buy new iPhone Among the very first, a Russian apple lover does not necessarily have to go to another country. Official sales of iPhone 11 in the Russian Federation will start simultaneously with the rest of the world. Hurray, comrades! :)

This is a modernized attempt by Apple to offer the market a new product. The first device did not have some important elements for American and European users (the same 3G), and was clearly not intended for mass sale. Foxconn factories are now churning out 150 thousand phones a day, and to some operators, if rumors are to be believed, the Cupertino company has offered to sell some absolutely fantastic volumes of devices.

Here, however, it is worth making a reservation. The phone was not intended for mass sales in countries where these sales took place officially: the standard price for a device of this class was supplemented by operators with rather high tariffs (the phone itself forced more use of the operator’s services - for example, data transfer). As a result, the iPhone repeated the marketing formula of other Apple products - not cheap, non-trivial, not for everyone.

Outside the coverage area of AT&T and other (few) official operators, a “gray” market reigned: shipments of mobile phones flowed to places where consumers were especially greedy for functional fashion devices. It is not known for certain how this was explained - whether it was a conspiracy theory (an attempt by Apple to expand the distribution area of the iPhone using guerrilla methods) or a spontaneous reaction of the market, which demanded a very good product (this option seems closer to the truth to us). However, the iPhone gained significant popularity and became one hundred percent recognizable phone in countries far from Cupertino.

From iPhone to iPhone 3G

The launch of the iPhone was once one of the most emotional debuts in history. mobile communications. There were aspects of this process that were surprising due to their non-triviality. To begin with, the very method of promoting a new product, which began to be produced by a company that was taking its first steps in the global cell phone market.

The very emergence of a new player of relatively large size - after the bankruptcy of Siemens Mobile (which almost brought BenQ/Qisda to the grave, which almost suffocated from swallowing too large a piece), the Motorola crisis and depression Sony Ericsson- seems unthinkable at the moment. Numerous second-tier companies do not leave this second tier from year to year (and their market share is steadily declining from year to year).

“Success stories” in relation to mobile phones can only be recalled in the case of Samsung and LG, which entered this segment relatively recently (in the late 90s - early 2000s). However, by the standards of the cellular device market, this is already a distant past.

The appearance of the iPhone on a market where, it would seem, everything had long been established, had a rather serious effect. The hype around the device was partly due to its innovative concept ( touch screen in the phone is not a new phenomenon, but only Apple made this screen really convenient for working without a stylus), but above all - the inability to accept the fact that the most interesting phone of recent times was invented by a company that had nothing to do with mobile communications.

Of course, the iPhone had enough shortcomings that, after months of “grinding” on various kinds of forums, are already known even to those people who have not held it in their hands this device and do not plan to do so. These are extremely modest camera capabilities, annoyingly limited Bluetooth, Apple's paranoid proprietaryism and obvious flaws in attempts to “creatively interpret” things that have become standards in the mobile industry (for example, working with SMS).

Apple's opponents had an almost subconscious irritation: why other leading companies (among them Motorola in torment and Nokia with a permanent sales crisis in the USA) did not think of releasing such a device, and a manufacturer that ignores some aspects sending SMS, did this?

A twenty-fold reshaped market, in which marketers found (or created) all sorts of niches (selected according to gender, psychological and anthropological characteristics) with vigorous “roadmaps” and strategies, turned out to be redrawn by a device that, even before its appearance, set the tone with incredibly high excitement (it was equivalent to an advertising campaign of approximately $400 million. - Microsoft intends to spend $300 million to somewhat reduce the degree of demonization of Vista).

Now the company LG, which showed its touchscreen phone before Apple and even allowed itself to be outraged by the “plagiarism” on the part of Cupertino, it writes in a separate line the number of “touch” devices sold.

The iPhone has become impressively profitable for Apple, generating significant revenue for the manufacturer, both through sales and in the form of carrier royalties.

But Apple felt the need to take a new marketing step - and the iPhone 3G arrived on the scene. This almost religious phenomenon was preceded by a signature “marketing” feature of the American company - a sharp “draining” of sales channels. A few months before the start of sales of the 3G version, it was impossible to buy an old iPhone.

In this way, Apple once again stood out from other mobile phone manufacturers who are planning a “second wind” for their devices as their prices fall and after the release of a newer model that replaces the veteran. Devices are often driven to death. An example of this is the forever young (until recently) RAZR.

“Dry” channels brought the public, who wanted to buy an iPhone, into a state familiar to Cupertino - excitement, against the backdrop of which the new iPhone 3G was shown.

iPhone 3G

After quite a long time, the iPhone 3G was in our hands. The main question that torments us is whether it is worth replacing the old iPhone with a new one? The main question that torments suffering buyers is how to buy a phone cheaper? Let's start with the second one.

The white 16 GB iPhone 3G, which came to us for testing, sells on the market for about $1700-1800. And this is not the case when sellers receive incredible margins, since the device has an astronomical cost at the entrance.

As you know, with the price of the phone in the US reduced to $199/$299 (with contract terms that, in total, cost more than the contract of the first iPhone), Apple and its partners have significantly strengthened their “security measures.” Activation of the device in the USA is now carried out only upon presentation of a social security number, credit card and ID cards, and it is impossible to take the purchased phone outside the AT&T or Apple store without activation.

In Europe, the situation is similar: the few “open” phones cost crazy money, and “free” iPhones are sold with enslaving contracts (serious if you want to take the device for sale abroad). As the example shows, our enterprising citizens bypass these contracts (for example, taking a phone with them after several months of student work in Britain), but this volume is not enough to satisfy demand.

Moreover, old stocks of the first-generation iPhone are now also sold at a price that is not comparable to the original one (a few months before the debut of the 3G version, the phone could be bought on average for $600-700). There will be no escape from this oppression - unless some tectonic shifts occur in our markets. For example, the expected debut of the iPhone in the retail chains of Russian operators and associated retailers.

Should current iPhone owners purchase the 3G version? In general, no. There are not many hardware changes on the phone. 3G communications are in demand in Ukraine and in those few Russian cities where 3G networks are deployed, but not in Belarus.

The GPS module works well (apart from the lengthy process of connecting to satellites), but at the moment the device can only use Google maps, which are detailed for Russia, but not for Belarus and Ukraine. Do not forget that these cards “eat up” a huge amount of traffic. In addition, the old iPhone was also able to do positioning - using the operator’s base stations for guidance.

Unfortunately, we were not able to check the 3G functionality of the phone and are not yet at liberty to comment on the horror stories that regularly come from the USA and Europe. However, communication in our native 2G standard is completely normal and no different from the first iPhone.

The 3G version has other minor differences. Some of them are quite nice. First of all, it is the white color of the back of the case. After consumer tests, we insist that the white version is better. Scratches are completely unnoticeable on it (they are noticeable on the black model), it is less easily soiled, and the “back” of the phone can give real religious fanatics of the white “Apple” plastic a feeling of deep satisfaction.

As you can easily see in the photo, the edges of the iPhone 3G are somewhat beveled compared to the old version. Visually, they make the phone thinner, although harsh reality (and side-by-side comparisons) quite rightly suggests that the new device is thicker than its predecessor.

Another nice thing is that the headphone jack finally accepts plugs not from the notorious white Apple iPhone headphones, but from your favorite ones. In addition, the appearance of the slots at the bottom of the phone has changed (the speakers, by the way, have become noticeably louder, but I would still like a more assertive sound).

From the hardware changes, we were able to recall other differences between the displays. New screen slightly greener than the old one, but such profound differences can only be discerned by comparing the phones side by side. There were no problems with the picture on the 3G version: just like in the first iPhone, it is clear and juicy.

The firmware deserves special mention. The standard for iPhone 3G is firmware 2.0.0 (currently 2.0.2 is already available, which, by the way, should fix problems with 3G reception). This firmware can also be installed on an old iPhone (or iPod touch). We had at our disposal phones with firmware up to version 2 and a first-generation iPhone flashed to version 2.

The iPhone 3G does have a more efficient battery. If the previous model, under average load, worked without recharging for about 2 days, then the new one, with economical handling of the charge, will work for almost three. True, this aspect very much depends on the intensity of Wi-Fi use and data transfer. In general, the duration of the player's operation in music listening mode has increased by four hours compared to the first option.

Otherwise, the iPhone 3G is absolutely no different from its older brother. It is pointless to repeat all the descriptions of the menu and phone capabilities. It’s easier to refer to the review of the first device, or even better - read
