Jbl portable speaker circuit diagram. JBL portable speaker

For a long time it caused mixed responses from specialists and ordinary users. On the one hand, such systems provide an obvious advantage due to the possibility of free movement and independence from wired power supply. But on the other hand, the compact size and battery power still limited the sound quality of the equipment. The portable device, presented in several versions, was able to change the existing understanding of this concept. Such devices are not only distinguished by decent quality of playback of compositions, but also by ergonomics and original design.

General information about JBL portable models

JBL has significantly improved the latest models of its line of portable devices in a variety of directions - from small details in design to the introduction of new technologies like the Bluetooth wireless module. What's important: the JBL portable speaker continues to be of interest in terms of sound quality. The manufacturer does not skimp on using expensive element base materials, which allows the acoustics, along with support for mobility, to also provide pleasure from listening to music.

Developers pay special attention to the structural design of the models. Most modifications of this type have a cylindrical form factor, which increases convenience during physical operation. In addition, the JBL portable speaker features a rubberized shell for easy grip. The speaker output points are recessed into the housing niche, which increases reliability in use. In other words, the design is designed not just for mobile use, but also focuses on the active lifestyle of the user. The speakers can be mounted on a bicycle frame, placed outside a backpack, or placed on any flat surface.

Main characteristics of JBL portable speakers

The operating characteristics of the systems allow you to verify the good sound reproduction capabilities. In particular, the frequency range averages 100-20,000 Hz. And while the upper limit is usually kept at 20,000 Hz, the lower limit varies from 75 to 160 Hz, depending on the model. As for the total power, it ranges from 3.5 to 15 W. Of course, compared to full-fledged speakers, these figures are not impressive, but one must make a serious allowance for the size of mobile acoustics - for this class, 10 W in total power is a very decent value. The sensitivity of almost all representatives of the line is at the same level - 80 dB. The performance indicator on a single charge is also interesting. Its duration is on average 5 hours under conditions of active use. Now you can move on to a more detailed acquaintance with the advantages and disadvantages of individual models. This will help based on feedback from the users themselves.

Reviews of the JBL Charge model

A compact stereo system that occupies a middle position in the JBL family of portable speakers. She is also the most popular among fans of the brand. According to them, the speaker is distinguished by high-quality sound, ergonomic controls and the inclusion of the latest technological systems. In particular, the user can learn about the main operational indicators from special indicators located on the body. Charging is carried out via a USB port, and the battery itself can withstand long periods of listening to music. If we talk about negative feedback, then perhaps it is worth noting the modest power that this JBL speaker is endowed with. Bluetooth, in turn, provides a stable connection with other mobile devices, to which there are no complaints.

Reviews of the JBL Pulse model

This system has a higher power reserve, which allows it to better handle the full spectrum of frequencies. Otherwise, the model receives almost the same reviews as the Charge version. Owners point out the ease of handling the design, the ergonomic shape of the body and a number of functional additions. By the way, the JBL Pulse portable speaker works through a special iPhone application, thanks to which the communication capabilities of the acoustics have been expanded. But there are certain complaints about this model. The main one relates to the modest configuration. Thus, in comparison with some models of the same line, the Pulse modification does not have a cable for connecting 3.5 mm headphones.

Reviews of the JBL Clip model

A rather unusual and rather utilitarian version of portable acoustics from the manufacturer JBL, designed for the undemanding listener. The model has a power of 3.5 W, which raises numerous questions about sound quality. True, the playback capabilities in this case are also determined by mono-channel playback, so you should initially understand the value of the basic capabilities of the Clip system. Against its background, of course, the JBL Charge portable speaker looks more advantageous, but it also costs noticeably more. Despite this, users still do not recommend abandoning this option, since it implements the same wireless communication capabilities. In terms of build quality, there is also no criticism - the durable, small and ergonomic body gives only positive impressions to device owners.

Reviews of the JBL GO model

Another variation of a mobile and at the same time budget device from JBL. It should be noted that although this system is not very powerful, according to users, it produces surround sound with a good margin. But there are complaints regarding the operation of wireless communications. In particular, there are distortions and failures when connecting to third-party devices. It is clear that this nullifies all the acoustic advantages that the JBL speaker has. The Bluetooth receiver disappointed many, but otherwise the system performs well. For example, the model has a bright and stylish design that attracts attention. As for the reliability of the case, it is equipped with modern protection systems, so it confidently copes with external negative influences.

Question of price

The last two models in the review can be purchased for an average of 2-4 thousand rubles. Even compared to budget analogues from little-known manufacturers, this price tag is more than attractive. Another thing is that these modifications do not demonstrate the best performance properties of the products of this manufacturer. But the question of how much a JBL portable speaker costs will probably scare off many for another reason - for example, the Pulse version is available for 11-12 thousand. According to even those who are completely satisfied with this model’s working qualities, the price tag is very high and not justifies the purchase.

How to choose the optimal model?

The company offers several series of portable speakers, but they all have many similar features. This applies to design style, ergonomic characteristics, build quality, etc. The choice will have to be made based on sound criteria and form factor. If you need a portable JBL speaker for listening on the go, then it makes sense to go for budget versions that are cheap but still guarantee reliability and durability. For music lovers, the Pulse and Charge models are more suitable, and the second option provides fairly good quality, but costs half as much. The choice of shape is also individual, but here you also need to take into account the operating conditions. A cylinder column would be a universal option, and if you plan to use a house model, then you should prefer GO in a classic design.

Conclusion

Poor sound quality in portable speakers was previously due to the small size of the speakers. Actually, this problem has not gone away, and acoustics developers still have to navigate between playback quality and device mobility. The company continues to demonstrate success in finding this balance, but at the same time it successfully solves another problem - signal transmission through the JBL wireless module. A portable speaker whose Bluetooth receiver provides high-quality sound is a rarity, but in this case, users note the organic combination of portability and wireless communication. Of course, there is no full comparison of the capabilities of Bluetooth and high-quality speaker cables, but the difference between them is decreasing. Added to this are improvements that expand the versatility of portable systems. For example, the Charge model in the latest versions is capable of simultaneously connecting to three devices via a wireless module channel.

In this article we will look at repairing a portable jbl speaker, as well as how to properly disassemble a jbl charge 2. Our speaker has lost sound. It doesn't make any sounds when turned on. The speaker itself turns on, there is an indication, the buttons respond to pressing, the phone detects it. This behavior suggests a malfunction of the speaker or output amplifier. We are trying to repair it ourselves. Let's start the repair with the selection of tools. We will need: a small flathead screwdriver to remove the speaker grille, a Phillips screwdriver and a multimeter. Carefully pry up the protective mesh with a flat screwdriver as shown by the arrows in the figure below.

Under the mesh we have two speakers, unscrew the screws that hold the speakers.

We take out the speakers and carefully disconnect the terminals.

We measure the speaker resistance. Should show 8 ohms. If the multimeter shows a break (infinity sign), then the speaker should be replaced. We check the second speaker in a similar way.

We replace faulty speakers with working ones. You should also check the speaker board for<<оторванных>> or unsoldered elements.

Since our jbl charge 2 wireless speaker is compact, we often take it with us. No matter how carefully we treat the jbl charge 2, we cannot avoid falls. Let's look at how to properly disassemble our speaker so as not to damage the wires and cables. We have already removed the speakers. Next, let's look at the further disassembly of our column. Unscrew the screws marked with circles in the photo below.

On the other side of the column. There is another protective mesh, under the mesh there is a battery. And 4 more screws, unscrew them.

We remove parts of the body. And unscrew the screws holding the passive speakers.

As we can see in the photo above, the board has appeared. But you can’t take it out yet. In order to remove the board, we need to be patient a little more. The photos below show how to peel off the rubber panel. On one side and the other. You also need to unscrew all the screws that hold the boards and disconnect the cables.

After we have disconnected all the cables and unscrewed all the screws, we can pull out our board. The cables that we disconnected from the boards located under the rubber band should be pushed inside our jbl charge 2 speaker. The board should go easily. If at some point the board stops moving easily. We still need to check whether we have disconnected and unscrewed everything. Checking the board. We correct faults if found and assemble our column in reverse order. I remind you that all work must be carried out carefully and not in a hurry.

I hope the article repairing a portable jbl speaker was useful to someone. Good luck with the renovation!

Installation and repair of a wireless speaker

Once they brought me a wireless Bluetooth speaker for repair. She looked dignified. The box said JBL Charge 3. I googled it. From this yes! Column for 8 thousand. Cool. But, as I began to understand it, doubt immediately arose that this was really JBL Charge 3.

I took off the protective casing and began to marvel at how cheaply this creation was made. I compared it with the original from the pictures and realized that I had a cheap Chinese fake, a replica, a copy.

There is no point in comparing this creation with the original, the difference is colossal. Many people want to buy a JBL Charge 3 Bluetooth speaker on Aliexpress cheaper and end up buying a copy or a replica. For example, you can buy this one. Costs about 3000 rubles. Apparently, this is exactly the copy I received for repairs.

Well, the original JBL Charge 3 wireless speaker is sold on Ali in the TMall store. Its price is not much different from the one at which large chain stores sell the dispenser. So, if you want to buy the original, then do not chase the low price, the original costs 7-8 thousand rubles.

To begin with, I want to say that one of the most common breakdowns of such devices is a broken microUSB connector. It was with such a breakdown that this wireless speaker was brought to me for the first time. But, a few months later, it was connected to charging with a bad USB cord, after which it shorted, began to smoke, and after that the speaker stopped turning on.

First, let’s take a look at what “package” our fake craft is assembled from. The Bluetooth speaker is easy to disassemble. First, the decorative protective casing is removed.

All the main electronics are mounted on a small board, which connects to the keypad, speakers, and the power source - an 18650 lithium battery.

There are only a few chips on the main board. Chip AC1720AP11057-5A8- this is the brains of the device (microcontroller), which has a built-in Bluetooth module. An antenna is made on the printed circuit board in the form of a broken line, reminiscent of a meander.

If it suddenly happens that the microcontroller fails, then the board can be partially or completely replaced with a module based on AC17xxAP chips, of which there are a huge variety sold on Ali. Here is the link . It should be noted that they all have different markings, for example, AC1721AP10242-5A8, AC1716AP10234-5A8, AC1716AP10238-5A8. As I understand it, the chips differ only in their support for different versions of Bluetooth (V2.1, V4.0, V4.1, V4.2).

First, we use it to remove the solder from the contacts of the element, and then, after heating one of the terminals with a soldering iron tip, we remove the non-working transistor with tweezers. Since the SOT-23 package is miniature, it quickly warms up along with the terminals. This makes it easier to dismantle the transistor.

After I replaced the burned-out Si2301 mosfet with an AO3407, I began to check the operation of the wireless speaker. At first it turned on and off normally, connected to the smartphone without problems, and played tracks. But after a couple of on/off switches, it stopped turning on again.

The most interesting thing was that when I closed the drain-source terminals of the AO3407 transistor, the column turned on normally and worked even after I removed the tweezers - I opened the drain and source terminals. There were also no problems with turning off; by pressing the "Power" button the speaker turned off.

While I was figuring out what was going on, I noticed a cracked diode D2 marked S4 on the button panel board.

It is worth noting that the S4 marking is applied to different models of SMD diodes and they are easy to confuse. But, after quite a long search, I came to the conclusion that this is an SD103AW Schottky diode. It is quite low-power and has small dimensions (SOD-123/SOD-323 housing). Apparently it is used in signal circuits, it has a low voltage drop across the transition (Low Forward Voltage Drop). I've seen such diodes on printed circuit boards from portable MP3 players.

From a quick analysis of the circuitry, the following logic of the circuit’s operation when turned on was developed.

Let me remind you that:

    P-channel mosfet transistors are opened by a negative on the gate;

A semiconductor diode has one-way conductivity.

This will be enough to understand the operation of the on and off circuit. For clarity, I wasn’t too lazy and put together a simple diagram.

When you press the "Power" button, the gate of MOSFET transistor Q2 (AO3407, native Si2301) is connected to minus through diode D2 and opens. Through the opened transistor Q2, the supply voltage is supplied to the entire electronic part of the circuit. The microcontroller opens bipolar transistor Q1 (labeled J6, aka S9014), the collector of which is connected to the gate of Q2. Thus, even after the "Power" button is open, mosfet transistor Q2 remains open and supplies power to the circuit.

Diode D2 appears to prevent the collector terminal of transistor Q1 from shorting to negative when we press the "Power" button again. Since Q1 is open and supplies voltage to the gate of Q2, in this mode, diode D2 is turned in the reverse direction and does not allow current to pass through.

The wireless speaker is turned off by pressing the "Power" button again. When it is pressed, the common wire (aka minus) is connected through diode D4 to the button control bus. So the microcontroller understands that a signal to turn off has arrived and closes transistor Q1, and with it Q2. Finishes his work.

I think it’s now clear why, when the source-drain terminals of the AO3407 transistor were short-circuited, the column turned on and continued to work normally even when the terminals were opened. The shutdown circuit was working properly and therefore the speaker turned off normally when the "Power" button was pressed.

Since the AO3407 transistor is more powerful than the native Si2301 and has different characteristics, its gate capacity is also larger. And since the gate capacitance is larger, then the charging current of this capacitance when a minus is applied to the gate is also greater.

And, as we have already found out, when turned on, the AO3407 gate is connected to the minus through a button and diode D2. In this case, a fairly powerful current flows through diode D2 to charge the gate capacitance. Precisely because it is larger than in the case of the native Si2301, diode D2 simply burned out due to exceeding the rated current I F, which, judging by the documentation, is only 350 mA (for SD103AW).

To restore the correct switching of the speaker, instead of the SD103AW diode, a more powerful B5819WS Schottky diode was installed (marked SL), which can withstand a forward current (I F) of 1A. Its body is the same as the SD103AW. I took it from the board from the DVR.

After replacing it, the bluetooth speaker began to work as it should and no more diodes “fly out”.

This concludes my long story about repairing a wireless speaker. But I would like to add to it. It's no secret that wireless speakers often have speakers that fail. The reason is simple and is associated with their intensive use at maximum volume.

Most often, it is cheap bluetooth speakers whose speaker power is low and amounts to a maximum of 2-3W that suffer from this disease. The original speakers are also affected by this problem. Unlike cheap devices, they have built-in higher-quality speakers whose power is 5-15W.

Portable and Bluetooth speakers usually have miniature 1.5-3 inch speakers built into them. A replacement for the original one can be found on AliExpress, for example, in the AiyimaTechnology, AiyimaAudio and GHXamp stores. The stores are verified and have good reviews. We select the speaker by power and size. If desired, here you can find a worthy replacement for the original speakers from branded speakers Beats, JBL, Sony, Philips, and Google Home smart speakers.

How to choose a JBL portable speaker

Before you find out how much a JBL speaker costs, make sure that the device you are interested in is self-powered. There are portable devices that are powered from the mains - you won’t be able to take them with you into nature. Other criteria:

  • The maximum sound volume depends on the power of the portable acoustics. Is it true, at power close to maximum, any system begins to produce more distortion in the sound.
  • The range of reproduced frequencies affects the detail of the music sound. The higher the maximum frequency and the lower the minimum, the better.
  • The number of bands also affects the sound quality of portable acoustics. The more there are, the clearer the sound will be transmitted. In most cases, portable devices have one or two bars.
  • High-quality sound transmission depends on the signal-to-noise ratio. The higher this value is, the less distortion the built-in amplifier will produce.

10 Soundgear

Maximum sound with maximum mobility. Partner for VR glasses
A country: USA (manufactured in China)
Average price: 6,000 ₽
Rating (2019): 4.2

You most likely have not seen such a speaker yet - its shape resembles either headphones or a headrest pillow. But it's actually a very cool device with 4 speakers and bass boost that lets you enjoy surround sound while still being in the real world. You just put it on your neck and... you find yourself in the center of a symphony orchestra. Or at a Norah Jones concert. Or Pink Floyd. In general, with such a thing, the time for listening to high-quality music will clearly increase, and mind you, not at the expense of the main business.

User reviews note the usefulness of the speaker system, good frequency response and ease of switching between devices. The gadget can be used for organizing conference calls, watching 3D VR films and gaming. The structure on the neck is imperceptible after half an hour, there is no sound pressure on the eardrums (unless you set the sound louder than it should be), and nothing interferes with communication with others. Isn't it a miracle?

A country: USA (manufactured in China)
Average price: 10,500 ₽
Rating (2019): 4.3

The idea of combining portable acoustics with built-in light and music seems to be on the surface, but for some reason only JBL thought of it. And there is no need to even doubt that they were able to implement it at the highest level, from mega-cool packaging to the wow effect of the device. 2/3 of its body is occupied by an acrylic cylinder, hiding 100 multicolor LEDs inside - not a speaker, but a kind of musical strobe. Unique!

A stereo pair of two Pulse 3s, built using the Connect+ function, creates a music and light show worthy of the best stage in the city. The model is also good in terms of practicality: it sounds loud and bassy at 360°, holds a charge for 12 hours, and can be used as a speakerphone and AUX. Oh yes, it also calls Google Now with the press of one button - in the 21st century, modern Bluetooth acoustics should be able to do this too. But a portable speaker can be considered only conditionally, because no one would dare to throw such beauty into a backpack.

8 CLIP 3

Smallest size combined with powerful sound
A country: USA (manufactured in China)
Average price: 2,700 ₽
Rating (2019): 4.4

The CLIP 3 model is addressed to JBL's largest audience - young people who love to have an extreme time or just travel, but are not ready to part with their favorite musical compositions. Its distinctive features - a built-in metal carabiner for attaching to clothing or a backpack, compact dimensions (97x137x46 mm), water protection, increased autonomy up to 10 hours and a significant increase in volume - fully meet the requirements of sports and outdoor enthusiasts.

The speaker has a built-in speakerphone with echo and noise reduction functions, so the gadget can be used to answer phone calls. You can listen to music either via Bluetooth or via a mini-jack connector. For the size of the speaker, sound articulation is impeccable, and even if you turn up the music louder, no distortion is heard. This is a signature feature of all JBL portable speakers. It seems that the brand’s engineers have discovered another secret of happiness - a light wind in the face, friends nearby and your favorite composition from Clip!

7 Bar Studio

Rating (2019): 4.4

Until recently, the ultimate dream of moviegoers was a home theater, but today a much more logical solution is the JBL Bar Studio soundbar. This is a unique audio system that allows you to enjoy powerful multi-channel sound in a small space. In addition to “cooperation” with the TV, the gadget is designed to work as an independent player. Using the Bluetooth module, it can read data from any mobile device. The sound processing is fantastic, thanks to two bass ports, two tweeters with a total power of 30 W and Surround Sound technology.

The panel is active according to its connection type, i.e. it connects to a TV or computer directly, via AUX or HDMI. It is controlled remotely by the included remote control, which can be synchronized with the TV remote control. It has finally become possible to assemble all the components of a digital audio system in one elegant case measuring 614x58x86 mm, sending bulky floor-standing speakers and monumental subwoofers to their well-deserved rest!

6 Go

Optimal price. Fast battery charge

Rating (2019): 4.7

The size of the JBL GO allows you to carry the speaker with you always and everywhere, because it easily fits into your trouser pocket. The gadget is easy to use and has good sound, but what is most attractive is its price. The wireless device can work for 5 hours straight without additional charging. The device reproduces music with high quality, and the volume is enough to evenly fill a room of up to 40 square meters with sound.

The speaker is available in 8 different colors, which allows you to choose a design to suit every taste. The gadget is equipped with a noise-canceling microphone, so it can be used as a speakerphone for smartphones. The speaker is equipped with a special mount, so it can be hung on a backpack or clothes.

Advantages:

  • The battery is fully charged in 1 hour;
  • device weight 0.13 kg.

Flaws:

  • low bass lacks volume;
  • Doesn't sync with other JBL speakers.

5 GT7-96

Best compact speaker for car
A country: USA (manufactured in China)
Average price: 2,900 ₽
Rating (2019): 4.7

The stylish three-way speaker speaker system is perfect for cars that don't have room for a subwoofer. Polypropylene diffusers Plus One have long been patented by the manufacturer, and differ from their competitors in their large surface area. This feature increases sensitivity and also improves expressiveness and sound quality.

In reviews, users note truly surround sound without wheezing or noise. However, not everyone likes how the speakers reproduce “hard rock” and “metal”; there are no complaints about other musical genres. It is also worth noting that sound quality depends on proper installation and configuration of the equipment.

Advantages:

  • clear sound;
  • excellent bass quality.

Flaws:

  • The package does not include lugs for the wires.

4 Flip 4 Special Edition

Mainstream design. Loudest sound
A country: USA (manufactured in China)
Average price: 6,000 ₽
Rating (2019): 4.8

Let’s face it, we also followed the lead of marketers by adding the Flip 4 Special Edition speaker to the list of the best – the only thing that distinguishes it from its “sister” is its incredibly cool colors. The names alone are worth it - “Malta”, “Mosaic”, “Trio”... They look so original, and the difference in price with the regular version is so ridiculous that there is no question of the difficulty of choosing - if you value high-quality sound and beautiful design, then definitely you need to take this particular model.

The volume is controlled by a pair of active and a pair of passive radiators of 8 W each, but, surprisingly, it sounds about 50% louder than all models with similar parameters - most reviews agree with this. And at the same time, there are no blockages in the bass, and the middle along with high frequencies can be heard clearly. If this is not enough, we advise you to organize with familiar owners of JBL portable audio systems - the efforts will be repeatedly justified by the pleasure of synchronous music playback.

3 Boombox

Modern replacement for a music center
A country: USA (manufactured in China)
Average price: 21,000 ₽
Rating (2019): 4.9

It seemed to us that the main desire of the developers of this speaker was to give users as much sound as they themselves (or their neighbors) could stomach. Following it, 4 active transducers (2 x 102 mm and 2 x 20 mm) were integrated into the 5-kilogram “Boombox”, providing the most powerful sound, be it pop, rock or techno. According to reviews, the speaker is booming, even the chandeliers are shaking, and to catch the overload, you need to try hard.

What is so portable about this “robust thing,” someone may ask. And the manufacturer will answer - “Handle!” Without it, the speaker would have to gather dust at home, but with it, even to the sports ground, even to the dacha, even to the sea. Fortunately, water resistance allows it - in September 2017, when everyone got acquainted with the Boombox at the IFA exhibition, they simply poured water on it from above. We can’t help but talk about the gigantic battery life of the device – 20,000 mAh and 24 hours of sound! In general, the device is solid in all respects.

2 Charge 3

Best value for money and sound quality. Best-seller
A country: USA (manufactured in China)
Average price: 8,100 RUR
Rating (2019): 4.9

Almost at the very top of the ranking is the popularly loved 3rd generation of the legendary Charge line. It’s simply amazing how this Bluetooth speaker with 2 full-range 10 W speakers produces rich and natural sound with gorgeous bass - better than some analogues that cost half the price. And its format is universal - the device can be put in a small bag, a bicycle bottle cage, or taken with you to the beach or to the park.

In addition to high-quality loud sound, the equipment should be noted. Not only is the 6000 mAh battery sufficient for 20 hours of listening to hits, but you also no longer need to carry an extra device – a power bank – with you. With JBL Connect, you can connect to another JBL device and create a stereo pair for even more surround sound. We are also pleased with the decent degree of water resistance - IPX7, at which the speaker will work even after a short-term (up to 30 minutes) immersion in water. Truly a hit device!

1 Xtreme 2

A premier audio solution for Open Air
A country: USA (manufactured in China)
Average price: 13,200 ₽
Rating (2019): 5.0

The appearance of this model was eagerly awaited by everyone who had heard how good the “Extreme” of the previous version was. Truly, there is no limit to perfection: the updated Bluetooth speaker has become even better in ergonomics (the shape of the supports and mounting lugs has changed, access to the interface has become more convenient) and in technical characteristics. Thus, the frequency range has become wider (the lower threshold has dropped from 70 to 55 Hz), the diameter of the bass and midrange speakers has increased to 75 mm, and the tweeters have become larger - 20 mm each.

All this, combined with the system's 40-watt power and newly designed passive radiators, delivers crystal clear sound with punchy bass, detailed highs and balanced mids. To appreciate the sound level, you need to hear it yourself! Judging by the reviews, the device is not afraid of splashes and even short-term immersion in water, and easily connects via Bluetooth with its “brethren” - at least a hundred at the same time. You can have fun for up to 15 hours in a row, after which the speaker is charged in a record 3 hours and is ready to drive again.
