Indication of receiver operating modes

Binding

The binding process sets a unique identifier and associates a specific receiver and a specific transmitter. A transmitter can be linked to multiple receivers at the same time, but a receiver can only be linked to one transmitter.

To perform the binding, you must follow the following procedure:
1. Turn on the binding mode on the control equipment. For the FrSky XJT RF module, press the BIND button on the RF module and turn on the transmitter, then release the button. The red LED on the XJT RF Module will flash.
2. If necessary, set the mode selection jumpers on the X8R (see description below)
3. Press the F/S button on the receiver (do not press if you need D8 mode) and apply power to it. A flashing red LED on the receiver indicates successful pairing with the equipment.
4. Turn off the power to the receiver and control equipment.
5. Turn on the control equipment again, then the receiver. The green LED on the receiver indicates successful connection with the equipment. Binding completed.

The binding procedure only needs to be completed once if the RxID parameter on the control equipment is not changed.

Selecting the receiver binding mode

When power is applied, the F/S button must be pressed
Mode 5 (D16) EAT CH1 - CH8 jumper is not installed When power is applied, the F/S button must be pressed

Note: In case two receivers are used simultaneously (for example, one receiver outputs PWM channels CH1 to CH8, and the other outputs PWM channels CH9 to CH16), telemetry must be disabled on one of them.

Range Check

It is recommended to perform a range check before each flight session. Signal reflections from metal structures, reinforced concrete structures or trees can have a significant impact on signal propagation and cause loss of communication both during range testing and in flight. To check the range, follow these steps:

  • Place the model at a height of at least 60cm. above the ground so that there are no metal objects near the model (iron sheets, reinforced concrete slabs, etc.).
  • The receiver antennas installed on the model must be directed in different directions and must not touch the ground
  • The RF module antenna on the control equipment must be positioned vertically.
  • Turn on control equipment and model
  • Through the control equipment menu, activate the Range Check mode. For XJT RF module, press and hold the F/S button on the RF module for 4 seconds, the red LED will go out and the green LED will flash quickly. In this case, the transmitter power will decrease and the range will decrease by 30 times.
  • Move away from the model while moving the sticks to ensure that the model responds to commands from the controls.
  • As a rule, the operating range of the equipment in Range Check mode should be at least 30 m.
  • To exit the range test mode, press the Exit button on the equipment. For XJT RF module, press and hold the button on the RF module for 2 seconds, the red LED will light up, confirming the module is operating normally.

    Failsafe

    Failsafe is a receiver function that allows you to set preset channel values in the event of loss of communication with control equipment. X8R supports Failsafe setting for all channels. Perform the following procedure for the Failsafe job:

  • Turn on the control equipment and receiver and perform the binding procedure.
  • Using the control equipment, set the required channel values for Failsafe mode.
  • Briefly (less than 1 second) press the F/S button on the receiver. The green indicator will flash twice to confirm that the settings have been saved.

    If you want the receiver to stop producing a signal to the outputs when communication with the control equipment is lost, turn on the receiver without turning on the equipment and briefly press F/S on the receiver.

    To disable (reset) Failsafe, pair the receiver with the control equipment again.

    Note: if Failsafe is not set, the receiver will continue to output the last channel values received from the control equipment when communication is lost. This can lead to undesirable consequences - such as loss (flying away) of the model, or causing damage.

  • Briefly about the features

    The unique four-axis system used in the design of the quadcopter makes the device much more durable, reliable and robust. It will be able to withstand more possible impacts and damage and at the same time perfectly resist air currents in strong winds without losing control. As a result, this copter is optimally suited for both indoor flights, where there is a high probability of collisions, and in open areas, where the influence of wind and similar factors is felt.

    A high-quality gyroscope used in the design allows the device to position itself in space much better and more efficiently, which has a positive effect on the control system and some other capabilities of the aircraft. In addition, the design of the copter has a modular system, thanks to which the user can very easily and quickly install protective grilles, stand legs and other similar components of the aircraft.

    The device is capable of performing revolutions at all 360 degrees, is equipped with a “headless” system, which makes it much easier and more efficient to operate the device (from the point of view of inexperienced operators), and innovative sensor system pressure allows the quadcopter to more effectively maintain the altitude specified by the operator. In this case, the user does not have to perform any additional actions or constantly monitor the position of the device in a vertical position.

    Safety and Maintenance

    The manufacturing company is not responsible for all actions performed by the operator. In addition, the manufacturer of the quadcopter cannot be responsible for the functionality and stability of the device in the event that unforeseen changes are made to the design, non-branded components are used, the device is used for other purposes, and so on. In all situations, responsibility lies with the user personally, especially if private property is damaged or personal injury occurs.

    All small parts, elements and components of this aircraft must be stored in a place that is inaccessible to small children and pets. Otherwise, they may swallow small parts or break them. It is also recommended to keep the quadcopter, charger, remote control and other items that are not small parts away from children, even if they no longer swallow small items. The device is aimed only at people aged 14 and above.

    Young children should not operate the device, especially without adult supervision.

    The device is a powerful device and reacts very sharply to operator actions. That is, inexperienced operators or those who will be using this quadcopter for the first time are recommended to exercise maximum caution during the first flight and move the control sticks as carefully, smoothly and slowly as possible, until the required experience is accumulated and a clear understanding of how exactly the aircraft will work appears. device during one or another action of the operator.

    After the end of the flight, you must first turn off the power to the control panel and only then to the aircraft. Otherwise, certain problems may arise with the synchronization of devices, and you will need to bind the control panel to the quadcopter again, and this is relatively difficult to do. After stopping the aircraft, you will need to remove the battery and put it down for storage. The storage area should also be as inaccessible as possible to small children and animals.

    In addition, this place should also be as far as possible from any heating devices, from a gas stove or fireplace to the simplest radiators or other heat sources. Otherwise, if such rules are not followed, the power source may overheat, which with some probability may lead to damage, spontaneous combustion, or even explosion. If possible, it is recommended to keep a container of sand nearby for emergency extinguishing of the battery.

    When operating a quadcopter, you should ensure that it is at least 2-3 meters away from any nearby person, both during flight and during takeoff and landing. If you do not adhere to this rule, there is a possibility of causing serious injury to another person due to control problems, which especially often arise among inexperienced users. In this situation, if the copter is operated by a child, he should be constantly supervised by an experienced adult who can quickly redirect the copter.

    In this case, a child means a person between the ages of 14 and adulthood.

    It should be remembered that the control panel can operate both on rechargeable batteries and on regular batteries. Simple batteries cannot be charged, and attempting to charge them can lead to consequences that cannot be predicted. In addition, it is recommended to use only high-quality batteries from the same manufacturer with approximately the same charge level. This can be achieved by changing the entire set of batteries in the remote control at the same time.

    Do not charge the battery only partially. For long-term and high-quality operation, it must be fully charged, after which its charge level will drop to the minimum permissible level and will no longer be able to ensure the operation of the aircraft. In addition, the device can only operate at temperatures not exceeding +35 degrees Celsius. That is, in the summer when the temperature is too high, it is recommended to refrain from using the copter.

    The device also does not perform well in the cold.

    When cleaning the quadcopter, use only soft and dry cloths. During storage, the aircraft should be kept as far as possible from direct sunlight and heat sources. Apparatus not equipped with moisture protection. It should not be used in rain or snow or exposed to any other type of liquid. Before each use, you need to carefully inspect all components of the copter in order to timely detect possible damage.

    On the top of the control panel there is a small antenna that provides communication with the quadcopter over a long distance, as well as a handle that can be used to carry the remote control. At the top of the front side of the product there is an LED indicator indicating the current state of the control panel. Below it is a button to turn the device on and off, and even lower is a relatively large screen with technical information, the capabilities of which will be discussed in more detail below.

    There are two buttons on the upper side surface. The left one regulates the speed of the aircraft. High speed is suitable for open spaces, and low speed is suitable for closed spaces. The right button activates the trick mode, in which the device is able to somersault in any direction 360 degrees. To the left and right of the power key are control sticks. The left stick is responsible for rotating the device around its axis, and also allows you to raise and lower the device in the air.

    The right stick controls tilts in any direction, setting the trajectory of movement. Next to the sticks there are special regulators that allow you to fine-tune the aircraft, making its behavior in the air more adequate and stable. It should be noted that the controller located to the right of the left stick has no functionality and is there solely for symmetry.

    On the back of the product there is a battery compartment, which is closed with a plastic cover that can be securely fixed. Inside, observing the correct polarity, you need to install four AA batteries. For ease of installation, there are marks on the inside of the compartment in accordance with which the batteries should be installed. Please remember that when using standard batteries, you should not attempt to charge them and it is not recommended to mix batteries with different charge levels.

    Screen on the remote control

    Most of the entire lower space of the control panel is a large screen, which displays all kinds of information that may be useful to the user. At the bottom there are two stripes with a dot in the middle. The right one is a reflection of the regulator, which corrects the lateral tilts of the aircraft. The left stripe reflects the controller, which is responsible for rotating the quadcopter around its axis. Please note that the position of the dot on the strip is reset after rebooting the control panel.

    On the sides of the screen there are two more similar elements. The left stripe is here solely for symmetry, just like the corresponding controller, but the right one displays the position of the trimmer, which is responsible for adjusting the forward and backward movement of the copter. Just as in the previous case, after rebooting the remote control, all displayed changes are reset and returned to the “default” position, although the settings themselves are saved.

    In the middle of the screen there is a circle in which there are several elements at once. A cross in a circle will display the aircraft's current direction of travel, and the top two elements forming a semicircle above the cross will show direction of rotation. In the upper right corner there is an icon indicating the current battery level, and to the left of it is a mark for switching speed. If the letter “H” appears, it means the device is moving at maximum speed. If “L” - then with the minimum.

    In the left corner, icons indicate the current signal level, and next to them there is a message like"mode 1" or "mode 2" which will display which remote control option is currently selected - for left-handers or for right-handers. The same system is used in the copter Syma X8W . The screen does not display any more useful data.

    Protective grilles and stand legs

    To install the protective grille, you need to pull out the decorative plug, which is located in the end part. The extraction process is shown in the left image above. After this, it is necessary to insert a previously prepared protective grill into the resulting hole and securely fix it there. This process is shown in the second image from the top from left. After fixing the protective grille, it must be attached with two bolts from the kit that comes with the aircraft.

    It should be taken into account that the flight characteristics of a quadcopter will be higher without grilles, but at the same time, without them, the device can cause more serious injuries in a collision with a living creature, and when it hits various objects, the damage received by the copter can be significantly greater.

    The stand legs are installed on the aircraft in much the same way as protective grilles. There are no decorative plugs here, but there are special connectors into which you need to insert the legs as shown in the left image above. After this, they will need to be secured with the same bolts that were used to secure the protective grilles, as shown in the right image above. There should be enough bolts in the kit to install protective grilles and stand legs.

    For what purposes do you/will you use the quadcopter?

    Smartphone mount

    The image from the camera can be transmitted to the operator’s smartphone, which, in turn, can be mounted directly on the control panel. For this purpose there is a special clip installed on the remote control antenna. To install, you will need to put the clip on the antenna using a special connector. The process of installing and removing the clip is very simple, since no additional actions need to be performed. It will be enough to simply pull the clip onto the antenna with force until it stops turning and is securely fixed.

    To install a smartphone, you need to open the clip and only then fix the smartphone in it. To ensure that the mobile device sits as securely as possible without causing scratches, the inner surface of the clip has special soft linings. The clip is universal and suitable for smartphones of all models and sizes. If after installation the smartphone dangles, you need to tighten the clip on the antenna even more tightly.

    Control via Wi-Fi

    The box in which the product is delivered contains QR codes, with which the user can easily and quickly download the required application to his smartphone. It should be remembered that different QR codes are used for Android and iOS devices, although the application itself will be the same in all its functions and appearance in both cases. Alternatively, users can download the required application to their smartphone from the manufacturer's website, which is also listed on the box.

    To set up the connection, you must first turn on the power to the copter. The LED indicator should first turn green and then begin flashing red for approximately 20 seconds. It is at this moment that the user should go to the Wi-Fi network search menu of his smartphone and connect to the found network with the name of this quadcopter. Next, you need to launch the previously installed application. If the connection is normal and there are no problems, the LED indicator will stop flashing red.

    The flight distance when using Wi-Fi control will be two times less than when using the control panel.

    The image that the camera currently sees will appear on the smartphone screen, against which interface icons will be located along the top of the picture. In addition to them, in the lower left corner there will be a timer showing how long the camera records video. If there is no recording, the timer will not work. The first icon on the left activates the photo function on the camera. The following starts and ends the video shooting process.

    The third icon opens the storage location for previously taken pictures or recorded videos on the smartphone. The next icon shows the quality of the current Wi-Fi connection, and the last icon allows you to exit the application in the smartphone menu. It should be remembered that if a memory card is not installed in the camera, then all materials (both videos and pictures) will be saved only in the memory of the mobile device. Otherwise, they will also be additionally recorded on the memory card, duplicated on the smartphone.

    Copter control system

    The quadcopter is controlled using a remote control. The control system itself is very simple and is represented by two sticks. The left stick is responsible for moving the aircraft up and down, and also controls the rotation of the copter around its axis. It must be remembered that the further the stick is deflected from the initial position, the faster the aircraft will react. That is, it will begin to rotate faster, gain altitude or descend faster, and so on.

    The second control stick is responsible for tilting the device in any direction, thereby setting its direction of movement. Just as in the previous case, the more the stick is deflected, the higher the speed of the quadcopter will be. You should take into account the fact that the remote control has two modifications. One is aimed at right-handers, the second - at left-handers. In the first case, the first stick will be on the left, and the second on the right. In the second case, they will be mirrored, like most other controls.

    Turning the device on and off

    To turn on the quadcopter, you first need to activate the remote control. If you immediately turn on the copter, problems may arise with the connection between the remote control and the aircraft. After this, you need to connect the battery to the quadcopter and insert it into the device’s specially designed compartment. The last element is working with the remote control. When the copter's power supply is in place, you need to raise the left control stick (in the basic modification of the remote control) to the highest possible state.

    After this, it must immediately be lowered to the lowest position. The LED indicators will stop flashing and turn solid. This will indicate the actual completion of the activation procedure and complete readiness for flight. As an alternative, instead of the indicated action with the stick, you can move both control sticks at an angle of 45 degrees downwards. This will also activate the copter and prepare it for flight.

    To turn off the aircraft, you need to do the same thing, but in the opposite direction. When the copter lands, lower the left control stick to the lowest position and wait a few seconds. Alternatively, you can once again bring both sticks together at an angle, as indicated below. When the device is ready to turn off, you need to remove the battery and only after all this turn off the control panel.

    Functions and properties

    Battery discharge protection is the first of the useful functions of this aircraft. When the charge level begins to approach a critical level, less and less energy is supplied to the engines (in simple terms), which leads to gradual loss of altitude, and eventually the copter just lands neatly. If such a system did not exist, the engines would simply turn off at a certain moment, and the quadcopter would fall to the ground with all the ensuing damage.

    The following feature is also very important for security. If the aircraft hits something or gets stuck somewhere, the blades immediately stop and lock. Most often, such a system helps to minimize damage and keep the propellers intact. For the convenience of the user, he can calibrate the copter in 3 seconds. To do this, you need to place the device on a flat surface and, lowering the left control stick strictly down, hold it in the indicated position for all three seconds.

    Calibration helps the operator set the settings to the optimally effective level.

    The quadcopter also has a 360 degree flip function. To activate it, you need to press the right button located on the side surface of the upper part of the control panel. After this, the device will begin to turn over in the air in the direction indicated by the operator using the right control stick. Disabling the mode is done in the same way - you need to press the same key again. It should be remembered that the best effect is achieved with a fully charged battery.

    Working with the copter battery

    To properly and safely charge the quadcopter's power supply, it must first be removed from the aircraft compartment and disconnected from it. After this, the battery is connected to the charger and only then, when all the previous steps have been completed, the charger is connected to the outlet. The LED indicator on the charger will glow while charging is in progress and turn off when charging is complete. If the LED is off, the battery is fully charged.

    The entire charging procedure takes about 200 minutes. At the same time, the aircraft is capable of staying in the air for 9 minutes. When charging, the user should not place any heaters or other equipment that could become a source of heat near the charger and/or battery. The room for charging should be well ventilated, and it should only take place under the supervision of an adult.

    Model parameters:

    • length: 500 millimeters;
    • width: 500 millimeters;
    • height: 190 millimeters.

    Do not charge the battery with a non-branded charger. Do not charge a damaged or hot battery. It must be remembered that the power source will gradually lose its charge level during storage without use. If the storage process has been very long, you will need to recharge the battery before installing it in the aircraft.

    Aircraft camera

    Before installing the camera on the quadcopter, you need to install the memory card that comes with it. For this purpose, the product has a special connector. The camera is then connected to the bottom of the aircraft as shown in the image above. And only when it is securely fixed there, you can connect the camera to the appropriate connector to activate it.

    Disconnecting the camera is done in almost the same way, but in the opposite direction. You need to disconnect the camera, press the button to safely remove the camera, and only then remove the product from the mounts. If necessary, you can remove the memory card. Please note that after turning on the power of the quadcopter, connecting or disconnecting the camera is prohibited.

    In order to install the propellers, you first need to put the propeller itself on the steel base. Next, a plastic lock is installed on top, which should be turned approximately 90 degrees clockwise. Inside the steel base, in a specially designed hole, a steel pin is inserted, which reliably fixes the above plastic element. The last thing to install is a plastic decorative plug that hides the described elements.

    At the same time, it increases the reliability of fastening. The procedure for dismantling the propellers is performed in exactly the same way, but in the opposite direction. First you need to unscrew the decorative plug counterclockwise, then turn the plastic element the same 90 degrees counterclockwise, remove the steel lock, remove it and the plastic fastener, and only then will it be possible to remove the propeller itself.

    Possible problems and their solutions

    There are a number of common problems that have specific solutions. For example, if the aircraft does not respond to operator input, the battery level may be too low. There is also a possibility that the batteries in the remote control are low or the wrong control channel has been selected. It is recommended to check the charge of the batteries and power supply of the copter, and also set the control channel to the correct one.

    In some cases, during flight, the aircraft may be delayed in responding to operator inputs or may miss some inputs. The reason may be a weak battery charge in the control panel or the presence of serious interference with the signal. It is recommended to check the charge in the batteries of the control panel, and if everything is fine with it, change the flight location to another where there is no such interference.

    It must be remembered that not all interference is obvious, and in some cases it is impossible to visually determine it.

    If the quadcopter begins to move in any direction or begins to rotate without the operator’s command, it is necessary to perform calibration, and also, if this does not help, adjust the behavior of the quadcopter using the trimmers of the control panel. If you receive multiple damage (from impacts or falls), the aircraft's behavior settings may be lost. Sometimes you have to make additional adjustments.

    To send a quadcopter on its first flight to a novice lover of radio-controlled toys, there are instructions. It contains detailed and useful information that you need to know in order to protect yourself from unpleasant incidents during flights.

    Syma X8W is not a toy

    Before buying a quadcopter, you must clearly understand that such a product is an electronic device with a complex control system and can pose a serious source of danger to others.

    Thus, Syma X8W is not a child’s toy at all: Its use is recommended for teenagers only when they reach 14 years of age.

    And even if this condition is met, when operating such an aircraft, parental support and supervision is necessary.

    And, of course, even adult radio amateurs must strictly observe the necessary precautions when operating such an aircraft.

    It is highly not recommended to control an aircraft that has technical malfunctions, structural failures, mechanisms and devices, as well as various problems during the use of the electronic control system, including those arising from the presence of radio interference.

    It is recommended to take special care when using the battery. It is important to ensure that the polarity of the product is observed, and to avoid punctures and deformations. If the battery unit becomes excessively hot while using the four-blade helicopter model, it must be replaced with a new one to prevent fire or explosion.

    How often do you charge your quadcopter?

    Launching the Syma X8W quadcopter - instructions for use

    So, the instructions have already been carefully read several times, and you can proceed to such an important moment as launching the aircraft. First of all, you need to make sure that the transmitter and on-board board are turned on, and the battery is connected.

    Make sure all aircraft mechanisms are functioning properly and that you are at a sufficient distance from the RC quadcopter to ensure your safety.

    Only if all these recommendations are followed can you proceed to the flight process itself.

    The toy is controlled using a 4-channel remote control with a frequency of 2.4 GHz, equipped with a speed switching system. To check the connection between this device and the quadcopter, you need to slowly lift the left joystick, which is the throttle lever, up, and then return it back down.

    Before starting the flight, according to the instructions, you must wait until the quadcopter is ready - the moment when the LEDs on the model’s body are constantly on. Then you can begin to smoothly lift the gas lever and wait for the moment when the toy begins to lift off the surface. Now you can observe the flight process, which, depending on the state of charge and wear of the battery, the flight will last from 8 to 10 minutes.

    Principles of quadcopter control

    The instructions for the radio toy will help you master the basics of flying for beginners and improve existing skills for professionals. In many ways, this aircraft corresponds to the Syma X8C model. The toy quadcopter can perform the following functions:

    • fly up and fall down;
    • move forward and backward;
    • turn right and left;
    • make lateral movements.

    The instructions will help you familiarize yourself in detail with all types of flight that such a toy can perform. At first, it may be difficult to feel the features of such a toy, but with practice in piloting, after some time it will be possible to bring the skills of controlling a small aircraft to automaticity.

    Additional controls include pitch, which controls the angular movement of the toy, and a rudder, which allows you to make turns left and right. In addition, the radio control system allows, if desired, to roll the aircraft in the desired direction.

    The remote control allows you to regulate the flight process. If the model deviates to the side from the given direction, according to the instructions, it is recommended to use trimmers to adjust the desired route of movement.

    The Syma X8W's design ensures good handling. The model imitates the movements of professional aircraft, is equipped with technology to protect against loss of control, and remains stable even in the presence of wind. If the toy does not obey its owner and does not respond properly to signals coming from the control panel, the instructions recommend resetting its settings.

    You must first place the quadcopter on a flat horizontal surface and turn on the quadcopter itself, as well as the control panel. Now you need to switch the throttle from low to high and back, and also change the position of the right and left joysticks down and to the right for a period of up to several seconds.

    Such simple manipulations will help solve the problem of unstable flight of the model, as well as correct the situation when the model deviates to the side from the given route.

    Let's start our review of Syma X8 Pro with its external data. The quadcopter has “phantom” dimensions. Its body and beams became glossy, but the chassis and camera remained matte. There are grooves with a latch on the bottom for installing the camera. The landing legs and protectors are attached in the same way. The specially shaped battery is inserted from the back and protrudes slightly from the case. A large power button is located at the top of the fuselage. The sophisticated image of the aircraft is emphasized by silver lining, bright inserts and large LED lights.

    The build quality and body material of the Syma X8 Pro have earned excellent ratings from users. The snow-white plastic of the fuselage is quite thick and resists impacts and falls well.

    Flight characteristics

    The Syma X8 Pro quadcopter comes in an RTF kit and requires minimal assembly. The instructions for use pay special attention to calibrating the compass and gyroscope. We advise you not to neglect this procedure and carry it out in strict accordance with the flight documentation.

    The drone is a fairly large aircraft, the flight of which is quite stable in calm weather and in light winds. Roughness occurs at wind speeds of 4-5 m/s and higher. Flight time largely depends on weather conditions, but does not exceed 8-9 minutes. The range in RC control mode reaches 200-250 m. Two speed modes are complemented by take-off and landing in automatic mode, which is a good help for inexperienced users.

    An integrated pressure sensor allows the machine to maintain altitude, and in combination with the GPS unit, also maintain position (Hover function). The flight safety system is represented by several types of automatic return mode (RTH) and “headless” mode.

    During first-person flights, the drone is capable of flying up to 70 m. The video communication channel is regular Wi-Fi operating in the 2.4 GHz band.

    There are cases when, when performing the Hover function, the drone begins to make circular movements with a variable radius. Sometimes it stops responding to the pilot's commands for a short time or refuses to hover when the control levers are released. In RTH mode, the car can move along a rather intricate trajectory and land far from the starting point. All these failures are stochastic in nature and last only a few seconds. Many users blame weak shielding of the satellite communication node for the occurrence of some of them.

    Modes and functionality

    • Two speed modes;
    • Six-axis stabilization;
    • GPS navigation;
    • Maintaining flight altitude based on readings from the built-in pressure sensor;
    • Hover function - hover or hold a point;
    • Take off and land at the touch of a button;
    • Return at the pilot's command in case of loss of control signal or insufficient battery charge;
    • FPV flights;
    • Headless function;
    • Light indication of battery discharge.

    Motors and propellers

    The Syma X8 Pro quadcopter is equipped with commutator motors, the torque from which is transmitted to the propeller shafts through a gear transmission. The screw fastening mechanism repeats the technique that worked well on the earlier model Syma X8SW .

    Battery

    The power system is represented by a rechargeable battery enclosed in a special housing and having the following parameters:

    • Type: Li-ion;
    • Nominal capacity: 2000 mAh;
    • Rated output voltage: 7.4V;
    • Charge current: 0.5-1 A;
    • Weight: 100 g;

    Camera Syma X8 Pro

    The X8 Pro is Syma's first aircraft to feature remote camera angle control. The vertical position of the lens has several fixed positions and can be changed using two end buttons on the remote control. The video equipment is enclosed in a streamlined plastic case, combined into a single whole with a simple unstabilized suspension. The suspension is inserted into specially designed grooves located on the bottom of the aircraft. The device is powered by the quadcopter's internal battery.

    The viewing angle of the video camera is small - only 90 degrees. It allows you to shoot video in HD 720p resolution and take photos in 1Mpix format. The image is recorded on a removable memory card or broadcast via Wi-Fi. The lack of stabilization and average resolution do not allow you to create cinematic masterpieces, but to get acquainted with the technology of aerial filming, the capabilities of video equipment are quite sufficient.

    Control equipment

    The remote control stylistically fully matches the appearance of the quadcopter. The set of controls is minimal, some of them perform multiple functions. Thus, the right stick not only changes the pitch and roll angles, but also switches the rates (short press), and also starts the Headless mode (hold pressed for 2-3 s). The left lever controls the throttle position and is used in trim mode. A group of four buttons located on the left end of the remote control controls the camera position and shooting. The buttons located on the right side are responsible for automatic takeoff/landing and launching the RTH function.

    A special clip allows you to use a smartphone with the SYMA FPV application pre-installed on it together with the control panel. Note that in this case, the screen of the mobile device displays an FPV picture, against which several icons (photos, videos, etc.) appear.

    Price

    On online sites, the price of Syma X8 Pro ranges from 119 to 142 US dollars.

    Syma produces some of the best quadcopters in terms of value for money. Many unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) from this manufacturer are intended for novice pilots and hobbyists. Such a model is the X8C model, similar in external parameters to the well-known Phantom 1 (2) device, which brought it great popularity. Today's Syma X8C review will allow us to get acquainted with the characteristics and functions of this model and help us make a choice when buying a drone.

    Appearance

    The Syma X8C drone model is made of high-quality impact-resistant ABS plastic and is available in three colors: white, black and bright orange. In design and size, this quadcopter is very similar to another well-known Phantom device, however, the models are completely different in technical characteristics, capabilities and cost.

    The Syma X8C accepts 23.6 cm (9.2’’) screws. The front part of the UAV has decorative trims, the color of which depends on the color of the body. Also here, on the beams, there are upper LEDs: orange on the front and green on the back, to make it easier to control the quadcopter in the dark or in cloudy weather. The LEDs are covered with a transparent cover.

    A 2 megapixel camera is attached to the bottom of the drone, similar to a regular web camera. The camera has a large tilt angle and is attached to the device using a latch. It can be rotated down or up, depending on the desired shooting angle. At the back of the camera there is a compartment for a microSD card. The camera is mounted on a rigid suspension, power is supplied through a standard 3.5 mm Audio Jack connector, which is located on the bottom of the unmanned aerial vehicle, as is the “ON/OFF” button.

    The battery compartment is located at the bottom of the drone and contains a 2000 mAh lithium polymer battery. If desired, the battery can be replaced with a more capacious one. However, you should pay attention to its dimensions, since the compartment dimensions are small. Inside the Syma X8C there is a control board and free space where you can install additional equipment.

    Design

    Here's an overview of the main components of the Syma X8C.

    Motors

    The quadcopter is equipped with classic-type commutator motors with torque transmission through a gear. A distinctive feature of the design is the ability to replace only a broken motor. This will save money on purchasing a new device. The negative point is the short service life of the engines, according to user reviews.

    Initially, a 2 MP camera is installed on board the Syma X8C quadcopter. This means that the quality of both photo and video shooting leaves much to be desired, and is completely unsuitable for shooting landscapes from the air. It is turned on via a switch on the body and connected to the drone using a 3.5 mm jack.

    The quadcopter is supplied with a 4 GB memory card; video recording is done on it by default. Most budget models cannot boast of this capability; the signal is transmitted directly to the smartphone, which often leads to image distortion. At the same time, saving video recordings to remote media is also possible. It is important to note this feature: the final saving of the video recording is carried out only after turning off the camera from the control panel.

    The maximum video recording rate is 30 frames per second. The camera has a microphone, so audio recording is also available. However, this feature is not as useful as it seems due to the high noise generated by brushed motors.

    It is noteworthy that this model has a large load capacity, and the standard camera is removable. This means that, if you wish, you can install any other equipment (even the famous GoPro) on the quadcopter that can provide better quality photo and video recording.

    Flight controller

    The Syma X8C drone comes with a four-channel control panel that operates at a frequency of 2.4 GHz. The controller ensures flight of the device at a distance of up to 200 m in field conditions. Power is supplied from four 1.5 V AA batteries, which you must purchase yourself.

    Battery and charging

    The quadcopter is equipped with a 2S 7.4V 2000mAh 25C lithium-polymer battery with a 3.5 mm connector (models with T-Connector are also available). When purchasing an additional battery, it is important to pay attention to the connector, since current products most often have an XT60 connector. The problem is easily solved by using a special adapter.

    As the test results showed, the average flight time of the Syma X8C is about 10 minutes and 5-7 minutes when taking photos or videos. The duration of a full battery charge is as much as 200 minutes.

    Software

    The drone does not require software installation, since it has standard controls and does not display an image on the smartphone screen in real time.

    Specifications

    The table below provides an overview of the technical characteristics of the quadcopter:

    Functionality

    The Syma X8C quadcopter has the necessary set of functions for confident control and flight. In practice, the device performed quite well, although it is “afraid” of strong winds. However, more expensive models also face this problem.

    Syma X8C has two flight intensity modes: Low and High. In addition, we should highlight the Headless mode, which is standard for Syma drones. This mode allows you to make a painless landing in a place near the pilot, which causes a lot of problems for beginners. Headless operates regardless of the device’s position in space: if the drone is directed in the direction opposite to the user, then the X8C model is able to turn around on its own.

    The quadcopter also performs flips (flips) perfectly and does not fail. This is facilitated by thoughtful ergonomics and optimal dimensions of the device. Flips must be made at a height of more than three meters above the surface. If you do not follow this instruction, then Syma X8C has every chance of falling and breaking. The higher the battery charge level, the better the flips are. It is noteworthy that if the LED indicators on the quadcopter begin to blink, indicating a low battery charge, then the device stops performing maneuvers and sends signals to the pilot about the need to return to the ground. If the user fails to react in time, the drone will inevitably fall. At the same time, its propellers will automatically turn off in order to maintain their integrity and facilitate the removal of the UAV from a place where it could get stuck.

    The manufacturer does not recommend performing tricks with the camera installed, since it can change the center of gravity of the quadcopter, and flips will be less impressive. Also, this may cause the drone to crash.

    We also note the calibration function, which allows you to easily and quickly bind the aircraft to a horizontal position.

    User manual

    The manufacturer comes with instructions in English, which makes it difficult to get familiar with the drone, but this is not a problem. If you want to learn how to use the copter, what safety precautions need to be taken into account and how control is carried out, we recommend viewing or downloading the instructions for the Syma X8C in Russian in electronic form.
